Five Runfessions (May 2015 Edition)

An Active Day

I runfess ...

I was out running 6 miles last Saturday.   It was a perfectly gorgeous morning. I felt awesome and was puffed up with pride and confidence.  I was almost home when I ran into a neighbor who also runs.  Since I was finished and she was walking her dogs, we chatted a while about what we were training for, etc.  When I got into the house, I realized I had my shorts on backwards.  The Nike swoosh was so obviously in the wrong spot!  Geez.  Let the deflation begin...

I runfess ...

I decided if I was going to wear the Fitbit received as a Mother's Day gift, I wanted one with a heart rate sensor.   So, I swapped it.  After all, who cares about step counts?  Well, apparently I do!  This little band has put new determination and motivation into my running.  I want to run every day, and walk the dogs too.  {Whoa, Nellie.}  Huh, who knew? And just ask me how upset I am that we've had evening thunderstorms all week.  That makes for lower numbers!

Viking Half Marathon
-- Just Doing What I Do --
I runfess ...

I ran my slowest 8k ever this month.  My time was 8 minutes slower than last year's race.  8 stinking minutes!  I was actually kind of embarrassed.  Yes, I knew I was getting over a nasty cold.  But on the internet results, there is no asterisk beside my name with a footnote indicating "she sucked due to illness".

I runfess ...

I gained back a few pounds that I had lost earlier this year.  I don't really feel my eating is terrible.  I'm trying not to give it a lot of weight (pun intended).  You know, I'll just relax and act like it didn't happen!  I'm pretty sure the culprit is my late night snacking.  But dang, I'm hungry!

I runfess ...

I have no, that is spelled z-e-r-o, races on my calendar until October.  ME -- someone who ran 45 races last year and 41 the year before.  It's what I do.  I seem OK so far.  But, I'm sure I'll be needing some racing therapy.  And soon...

Do you have anything you need to Runfess?

  1. Oh my gosh, I had to laugh at "she sucked due to illness". So many foot notes that are needed on my race results...ha!
I have no other races on my calendar after this weekend's half marathon, except for a 5k obstacle run in doing for fun in August. I'm having such a hard time deciding what my next goal will be!

    1. I've needed a lot of footnotes this year. Good luck with your half! I had a hard time deciding on my next goal too. I chose a marathon.

  2. OMG, that is so cute that you had your shorts on inside out. Sorry, but that just made me giggle! I can't wait till I can go run 6 miles. The weather has be GORGEOUS here and I am sad that I can't run!

    1. I hope your resting/recovery period is going well. You'll be back at it in no time. I know it must be hard when the weather is nice!

  3. I'm sure you didn't suck! But I understand...I have pulled off to the side at the end of a 10-mile race before rather than cross the timing mat. I'd rather have a DNF on my official record than the time I posted that day. LOL

    1. Now why didn't I think of that? I could have saved myself the embarrassment. Duh.

  4. hahaha, i've def worn clothes inside out before. i once was on my way to a bar and had to change my dress around in the back seat of the car. #fail :)

    1. I can't even use the excuse it was dark. This was in broad daylight. Sigh.

  5. Too funny ! I also realized my running pants were on inside out recently. I didn't care... that's what you get for dressing in the dark. You ran over 40 races a year ? That is amazing ! I have 3 in the next 4 weeks... most I have ever run that close together.

    1. I wish I could have used darkness as an excuse! I am really bad about wearing my long running pants inside out on dark winter morning runs. And you are right, I didn't care at all! Good luck with your 3 races!

  6. My race calendar is pretty empty too and I'm kind of freaking out about it!! And the fitbit is so weirdly motivating, isn't it???

    1. I need at least a couple of summer races to get me through to fall. Fitbit is great. We can be friends!

  7. I need footnotes after all my races lately LOL, but I'm not sure what to put other than "she's just d$%n slow these days..." I have yet to heed the siren call of the Fitbit. I'm a little too obsessed with movement as it is...

    1. I could think of a LOT of appropriate (or not so appropriate) footnotes for my recent races. I'm in the slow lane lately.

  8. I love the idea of a footnote for some of my race times! I laughed at your Fitbit obsession - I have friends who are completely addicted. I want one - time to join the madness!

    1. It would be awesome if COULD footnote the races. If you get a Fitbit, let me know. We can be Fitbit friends!

  9. Haha, love the shorts on backwards story. I do stuff like that all the time. And I just noticed a big stain on my white pants today...first time I"ve worn them this year, too...

    1. Too funny! I had on a white pair of capris one day this week. I looked down late in the day and saw a large stain. I'm pretty sure it was coffee.

  10. Love your runfessions! Wow I can't imagine running over 40 races in one year, wow! I'm still trying to figure out my plans for the fall. Fitness trackers are awesome! They really do make you want to keep moving!

    1. A lot of the races were just local 5ks. I've always thought of them as speed work and it's fun to visit with running buddies.

  11. I have often wished for a disclaimer next to a slow race time. "She was running with a child" is one of my common excuses. What? No races? Is the world ending?? Thanks for linking up!

  12. I think I need a fitbit too. I can't motivate myself to get off my ass. And I bet I see races on your schedule...

    1. I think you need one too! I might do a race in June, but it's two hours away. Yuck. There's nothing really local for a while and I'm not into the traveling as much as last year.

  13. I've been in similar situations with wardrobe malfunctions that weren't discovered until after the fact. It's embarrassing - but honestly, I doubt anyone else really noticed!

I am so with you on wishing that race results had disclaimers for illness, injury, weather, or a host of other reasons.

Wow, zero races until October??? That is incredible! It must be really freeing actually to have that much freedom to plan things out. I tend to get too excited with races and sign up for a bunch, only to regret them later on when my schedule gets too crazy. Yay for a blank slate to work with at your own timeframe!!!

    1. In previous years, the lack of races would have made me so sad. I seem to be OK with it right now. My races times have been off...so that may be why I'm not as eager.

  14. I love my fitbit for motivation!!!
Thats hilarious about your shorts... oopsie

    1. In the winter, I'll wear my long pants inside out all the time. But I don't care because it's dark and I am the only person out there at that time. But on a beautiful sunny weekend day? Oopsie is right.

  15. My runfessions post is going to be a group effort. I'm going to write it as five friends and I drive to Annapolis this afternoon for tomorrow's ZOOMA Half Marathon! Can't wait!

    Have a great weekend!

    1. I want to do a ZOOMA half! You are going to have so much fun running it and being with 5 friends. Jealous!

  16. I didn't laugh at your backwards shorts cause I've done it too! I'm still in awwww of the 45 races! Dang Woman, I knew you were awesome but this makes you even Super Awesome!!! We're going home from camping Sunday, you'll kick my fitbit butt next week !

    1. Tricia, someone needs to kick your Fitbit butt...so let it me me. LOLOLOL. Enjoy your camping trip!

    1. Yep. Just pops the air right out of your balloon, doesn't it? I think we've all been there...at least I hope we have. I hate to think it's just me. HA.

  18. The shorts thing is hilarious. I have a related runfession: A few years ago, I woke up early to get ready for a race and my sleepy brain failed to realize I put my shorts on inside out so that the liner was on the outside! Fortunately my running partner pointed it out and saved me from further embarrassment.

    1. Bahahaha. I'm laughing thinking of the finish line picture on that if you hadn't corrected the situation.

  19. I bought the fitbit HRM and returned it. Decided that I didn't really need it since I was always training for a marathon. Decided it really wasn't necessary but LOVED the concept!

    1. I had talked myself out of getting one. But, since it was a gift I decided to just go with it. So glad I did!

  20. Wow that is a lot of races in one year. Very impressive :) That would be really nice if races could have notes next to times like that. I've had my fair share of asterisk -worthy races and running wardrobe mishaps. My runfession is that I found a little bruise on my elbow last week, then I remembered it was probably from when I was running and I hit the side of a trashcan with it ha. Not my finest moment :)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. LOL. Hitting the trash can! That would be me on the first mile of my early morning runs. I am really still sleeping. Honestly.

  21. I actually love runfessions, cause it makes us all seem a little more real. And 20,000 steps? That's amazing. I've thought about getting a fit bit. Do you think it's a worthwhile investment?

Runfession. I don't run. I shuffle. ;-) I have the worst form in the world. And my running aspirations go UP and down. I train for a marathon, and afterwards 3 miles sounds like a HUGE accomplishment.

    1. I do think a Fitbit is a good investment because it is something you wear 24/7. It's very motivating to me and I've heard that from several other wearers. Hey -- It doesn't matter what we look like when we run! Just that we DO run.

  23. I think of all kinds of excuses to get up from my desk! I've always weighed more in summer... when more of my body is exposed. Why is that? Awwww. Thanks for the very sweet comment!

  24. The backwards shorts - so funny! I'm not registered for any races, but I'm keeping a list of race possibilities and training like there may be one coming up so I'll be ready.

  25. I recently got the vivofit and am loving tracking my steps! LOL!!!

    1. I've heard good things about that too. It's all so addictive...which sort of fits in with my personality anyway. Obsession.

    1. Yes it is! It's like realizing after you get to work that you have on navy tights with a black skirt. Ugh.
