Coffee Talk (May Edition)

It's Saturday morning.  Let's settle in, have coffee and chat for a while!

Over Coffee... I'd tell you this was the week of Buford the Blister.  OMG.  He appeared on the ball of my right foot during the Biggest Loser half two weeks ago (due to extreme humidity aka wet socks).  Buford was planetary.  He was healing nicely until I ran a 5k a week later in the exact same conditions.  So, this has been a rest week for me...imposed by Buford.  It's time for him to leave now.  Seriously.

Over Coffee...You'd hear how upset I was to not receive the promised Tuesday email of my lottery status into the Chicago Marathon.  My eyes were glued to the screen.  All. Day. Long.  I sadly reconciled with the fact that I did not get in.  I'll just register for the Walt Disney World Marathon before it sells out (take THAT Chicago).  On Wednesday, something told me to log into my Chicago account just to see what it said.  Huh...that would be "Approved".  Well, there you go.  Two marathons within 13 weeks.  Oh Boy.

Over Coffee...I'd tell you that we went to Grandparents Day at our grandson's school last week.  The theme was "Grandparents Rock" and the different classes sang Rock n' Roll from the 50's.  It was actually very cute and extremely well done with props and costumes.  About midway through, PoPo leans over to me and asks, "Where's the Van Halen?  The Bon Jovi?"  Bahahaha.  Yep, we were the youngest people in the room.

Over Coffee...I'd explain how I bought this small chalkboard at Michael's the other day.  Mainly, I just thought it was cute.  I also thought it might come in handy to write down reminders, items we need to pick up, appointments, or leave a note to the family (you know -- what cell phones are for).  Apparently, PoPo didn't get it.  He left me the first note.  And, I answered.

What would you tell me over coffee?

  1. He's got quite a sense of humor! I wonder how many other grandparents are signed up for even one marathon?! ;-)

    1. I think I can finally run today. I'm going to try anyway. I haven't done a Disney race since 2012. But, my family loves Disney so it's a pretty easy decision.

  5. OMG! I was going to tell you how bummed I was that you didn't get into Chi. BUT YOU DID!!! I'll be there cheering for you. And wow I guess you rebounded a little too quickly with WDW. I think this was meant to be. You can handle both for sure. Hilarious chalkboard!

  6. Wow 2 marathons!! You are awesome. And I'll echo Coco's comment - how many grandparents do even one (heck, I'm not a grandparent and I've never done one). You go!!!! Good luck.

    2. Oh, I misread that! I read that as 2 marathons in 13 DAYS. haha Yes, that would be MM status.

I ran two miles twice last week. The first time wasn't too terrible, but the second time... as much pain as I was in afterward (still), I know I'm still a long way from being healed. Better, yes. But a long way from being back.

  15. Wow-- 2 marathons-- amazing-- I did Chicago twice-- in 2006 (snowing at the start) and 2010-- Blazing heat... I'm hoping to do it one more time-- back then when I did it though there was no lottery!

    1. The chalkboard will probably end up being used for jokes...which is OK too. I'm trying not to put too much pressure on this one race, but it is kind of a big deal for me. Yikes.

  23. Ha, that was a good trick, Chicago... it'll be nice to do two. They will be two very different experiences, I bet! :)

  24. Ha I would be wondering where the Bon Jovi is too? That's funny what PoPo wrote! Love it! I wondered about you getting in this past weekend when a friend ran her first marathon. So glad your going to Chicago and.....over coffee I'd tell you how jealous I am of you running a Disney Run and getting to meet Wendy from Taking the Long Way home in your other marathon!

  25. CONGRATULATIONS on getting selected for Chicago!!! So excited for you!!! We will have to meet up when you are in town. =) I've thought a lot about the trifecta of marathons that is the Chicago Marathon, the Honolulu Marathon, and the Disney Marathon - all within just a few months of each other. The good thing about you running two marathons so close together is that you already have a great base of training set up for marathon #2!!!
