New Orleans (WW # 30)

Welcome to the Weekly Wrap!

This linkup is hosted by yours truly and my good friend Tricia at MissSippiPiddlin.    The purpose of this link is to connect with and support other active women.

You can summarize your whole week or just a small portion of it.  It's up to you!  Race recaps are also encouraged!  {See rules}  We hope you'll challenge yourself to come back later in the week and interact with more women.   It's a wonderful way to make new friends!

Monday - Physical Therapy
Tuesday - 5 miles
Wednesday - Physical Therapy
Thursday - 3.5 miles
Friday - Rest (Sightseeing)
Saturday - Rest (Sightseeing)
Sunday - 13 miles (RnR New Orleans Half Marathon)

I didn't do much of a taper since I decided to go to this race only one week prior.  My Tuesday morning 5 miler was a struggle.  I was tired and it was very humid between thunderstorms.  I did see the full moon set which was pretty awesome.  I cut back my miles on Thursday to 3.5.  This run felt much better, but so was the weather -- a nice breathable 40 degrees.  I skipped my Saturday run.  Ready or not, Rock N' Roll here I come!

I arrived at the expo Friday evening with 20 minutes to spare and breezed through quickly to find black arm warmers.  As a bonus, I was happy to find the 26.2 Christmas ornament to match my 13.1.  The only thing I can complain about is the T-shirt.  Upon my arrival at the expo, they asked what size I wanted and made me write that on my bib.  I walked around the corner to pick up the T-shirt and realized it was way too small  They wouldn't let me change it. (If I had selected my size in advance, I could understand.) Tricia just happened to be finishing up at the expo when I arrived.  This Jester was odd to say the least...

We met Tricia and her husband later that evening for a little adult socializing.  FUN -- and I'll just leave it there.  {What happens in NOLA, stays in NOLA.}  Saturday was spent sightseeing including a great horse drawn carriage tour.  Overall, we had a fun weekend in New Orleans. The food was delicious.  The weather was perfection.  It made me wish I was in PR shape. Timing is everything!  I'll save my thoughts on the Rock N' Roll race itself for another post.

If this post seems unfinished, it's because we stayed too long in New Orleans!

Tell me about your week!

    1. We were lucky enough to meet last winter at a half marathon. We aren't that far apart, so it's easy to meet at a few races.

    1. I think the 40s is my favorite as long as there is only light wind. NOLA is a great weekend getaway.

    1. In person, the statue was...slightly inappropriate. That doesn't come across in the pic very well.

  10. Cannot wait to hear about this race. I'm wishing I'd have gotten myself down there to run it with your girls this year. The Vegas shirts were small like that too but they let me change it. Bummer you could not.

    1. The size I needed was just under my hand. I felt like running off with it to see what would happen! I could have swapped it after the race but didn't want to check a bag. It'll go on the next quilt.

  12. Can't wait to read the race recap. I've only been to NOLA once, & it was June, so just a wee bit hot & humid. I have to imagine the weather this time of year would be JUST RIGHT!

Also, can't believe they wouldn't let you change your shirt size, seeing as how you had decided on it 3 minutes earlier.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Oh, yeah. June would be pretty miserable, weather-wise. That's what I didn't get. I just wrote the size on the slip about 30 seconds prior. I begged that dude to let me change it.

  13. I have heard great things about the weather and the race. Sounds like you had a great time in NOLA! Horse drawn carriage....I have always wanted to do that....looks like so much fun.

Safe travels home and looking forward to your recap.

  16. It sounds like the weekend was perfection for you and Tricia in NO. I am surprised they did not allow you to change out your race shirt...that is a bummer. That jester is really strange, almost creepy!

    1. I had to wait until after the race to change it, when the right one was right there under my hand. And, I'd only declared my size 30 seconds prior. I'll save it for the next quilt.

  32. I am so totally jealous! RnR NOLA was one of my all time favorites! I just loved everything about that city. I think I ate all the food and drank all the drinks. Seriously, where has there every been better drink deals?! Nowhere! 3 for the price of 1 - what?!!! My cousin ran her first ever marathon there yesterday and I had a blast tracking her. That's cool that our two hosts both raced in NOLA yesterday!! Have a great week!!

That's a bummer about the shirt. If you are still there, and you have time you should drop by their HQ, if they have extra's now they may allow you to switch.
If not, maybe it will be a great addition to a new quilt one day!

    1. I could swap it after the race, but I had no intention of checking a bag. I usually don't wear the shirts anyway. It will make a great quilt square!

  41. It sounds like you guys had a great time in NOLA. I read one race report that the pavement was really uneven in parts and a few people tripped and stuff. Glad that didn't happen to you guys. Thanks for hosting the link up.
