Total --  25 Miles

We decided to hop down to the beach for a few days.  The first day was very windy -- that irritating wind that blows stinging sand against your skin.  The other days were rainy.  All was not lost, however.  We enjoyed great food!  You can always count on that.  Wednesday evening we ate at Margaritaville.

This hangs from the ceiling of Margaritaville.

Thursday morning, I ran 8 miles in the bike lane along the beach.  After warming up, I attempted  to make this a steady paced run.  My splits were: 10:41, 9:59, 9:41, 9:39, 9:29, 9:31, 9:35, and then 9:17 for a faster finish mile.  Meh, I guess the middle 5 were pretty consistent.

This small palm tree was turned inside out from the wind.

I always like to visit the Nike Outlet store when we are at the beach.  On this trip I came away with two half-price tanks.  That evening, we ate at our favorite dive of an Oyster Bar, Shuck'ems.  I ate my favorite Oysters Rockefeller.

I've always liked Nike running clothes!

Friday morning I ran in the rain.  I thought I saw a break in the radar, but within minutes the bottom fell out. After you get soaked, it's amazing how quickly you get over it and just keep running.  This ended up being a 4 mile progression run: 10:11, 9:44, 9:39 and 9:08.

Soaked!  There is an ocean behind me.  In fact, it's almost the same shot as the sunny beach pic.

We watched the new Batman vs. Superman that afternoon (surprisingly very good!), dined at Rum Runners and managed a game of putt-putt between storms.  We absolutely can't go to the beach without playing a round.  It wouldn't feel right.  Tradition and all...

These two beat me pretty badly.

Saturday, my grandkids celebrated both of their birthdays and hunted eggs after a refreshingly low-key party.  Easter Sunday, the radar again was mostly yellow and red.  I was able to get 9 early miles in before the real rain started.  The goal for this run was to keep my heart rate below 155.  I have such difficulty with this.  It averaged 156.  Almost!  My neighborhood is hilly and every time I ran up my HR would stay elevated for a while.

Whether or not you celebrate Easter, I hope you enjoyed a wonderful weekend with your family.  We kept it simple.  PoPo grilled and I made deviled eggs and whatnot.  I have half marathon #39 coming up this Saturday.  I chose not to run double digits on the two weekends between #38 and #39, opting for 9 miles both times.  I hope this gamble pays off.

And that's a wrap!

Do you like running in the rain?

Any other putt-putt players out there?

Who raced this weekend?

  1. I am SO not a run in the rain kind of person.. I just can't get out of my own head! I do love Margaritaville though - the view from your run looks incredible!

    1. I won't run with thunder and lightning in the area, but a little rain is OK. Margaritaville is always a treat.

  2. I like running in the rain if it's warm -- but not when it's cold.

    Sounds like a great week!

  3. Great job on your splits!! I have never run in full on rain, just sprinkles and heavy mist. But I think it would be fun to run in the rain! I love margaritraville!! They have the best burgers!

  4. Running along the beach is my favorite! Can't wait to do it this weekend!
I actually don't mind running in the rain as long as it's not cold rain!

    1. Cold rain is a different animal for sure. I'll be running a half in just a couple of weeks along the beach. I'm looking forward to it.

  5. My marathon PR was in the pouring the rain (it poured buckets the entire race). I would prefer it not to rain while I'm running, but once I'm wet I don't mind it too much.

We had a low keyed Easter as well. Our youngest son came over for dinner, and just left. Happy Easter!

    1. The rain provides an additional element of bad-assery. If you can PR in the rain, that is definitely extra special. Those elaborate holidays can wear me out. It's nice to just relax.

  6. Nice progression run! I wouldn't mind running in the rain so much if I didn't get blind not being able to see through my glasses! But I'm sure rain is better than sandy wind - that sounds miserable!

    1. I can't imagine how you run with glasses on. I know that must get very frustrating with them fogging up and then the rain too.

  7. I love running in the rain. It feels so freeing– kind of like being a kid and hopping around in puddles without a care. I do have one stipulation: it can't be super cold.

No races for me this weekend, but I have a few shorties next week. Have a good week!

  9. Don't like to run in the rain but if it were warm and I was at the ocean, that would make a difference. Love those tanks!

You had a good week of training inspite of the weather.

  11. I dont mind running in warm rain...cold rain..no thank you!!

Love Margaritaville....the Jerk Chicken is so yummy!!

Gotta love great Nike outlet buys!!

Awww..it has been so long sine I played putt-putt.

Sorry the weather didn't make for an awesome beach hang out.

    Have a great week.

    1. I don't think I've ever ordered anything I didn't like there. My only problem with M'ville is the crowd and wait time. It's such a tourist destination.

  12. Rain...I don't mind it (much) in the summer months provided (1) it's rain (and not a torrential down-pour, and (2) it happens while I'm already running and have no choice but to keep running (much less chance of me post-poning). Low key Easter for us...dinner with my parents and sister. Both of the college kids were home, which is always nice. And, I got outside for my longest 2016 run to date!!

    1. I agree it feels easier to get wet after you've already gotten started. It actually feels good in the summer when you are so hot and sweaty anyway. But, it's hard to just step out in the pouring rain initially. I've run a few H/Ms like that.

  15. Kudos to you Holly for running in the rain. I absolutely hate it. But then again, the rain here is usually cold, its often windy and generally damp. Those conditions kill my knees & joints.

How is your foot feeling ? I am impressed that you can run so many races back to back ! or at least that close together.

Sounds like you had a great weekend. We didn't do much because my daughter had a gymnastics meet. Crazy that it was on Sunday !

    1. Some days, my foot is uncomfortable -- thanks for asking! I think it's something I will always deal with. I may try more alcohol injections, especially if I train for another marathon.

  16. Love your new tank tops. I always love a bargain too. Running in the rain is a great idea because you never know what race day will bring. I remember running once day when it almost turned to snow, but that was pretty awful! Is PT working at all for you?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I was thinking the same thing during that run! You need to be accustomed to running in the rain because you may have it on race day. Been there, done that. PT has worked well for my hips. My IT pain went away almost immediately, as they said it would.

  17. Love the yellow/purple color combo in that tank! I am bad with holding grudges for a long time, so I'm still peeved at Nike for sponsoring Michael Vick, which is why I don't buy Nike. I feel the same way about running in the rain--once I'm out in it, it doesn't bother me. Glad you got to go to the beach for the weekend!

  21. The internet decided to eat my comment. Again!

I like running in a gentle rain when it's hot -- even a downpour isn't that bad when it's hot. A cold rain is the worst, though.

Sounds like you had a great week!

    1. I draw the line with thunder and lightning, which happens a lot down south in the summertime.

  22. I ran a 5K this weekend, but it was a little short, so, I ran a 2.94 mile race? Haha.

I don't mind running in rain. But I hate the first few minutes before I'm actually wet, where it's just annoying that it's raining. Once all my clothes are wet it's kind of whatever.

I saw the whole south getting pummeled with rain this weekend, so I can only imagine. I think 9 miles in between halfs will turn out to be a smart choice. I probably only would have done six, just to get myself extra good & tapered. Haha.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Of course my 5k PR was on a short course. Does it count or not? I don't taper as much as I used to. It would probably do me good!

  23. Those Nike tanks look great! I've never tried their running clothes but I might have to look into them. I generally try to avoid running in the rain but I've had to do it for races before. And you're right, once you get wet you just settle in and keep going.

  29. What fun beach time! I like running in the rain, but it depends on the kind, the freezing windy kind not so much, but anything else can be fun:)
Of course I say that as I skipped my morning run today, it's been snowing since around 6am, and it's a wet heavy snow. I should go out, but I have like no desire to do it, so I think I may have to break out the treadmill if I can't get the umph to go get wet and cold, LOL LOL
Great splits too, I wish my times were down into the 9's. Maybe soon thy will, but right now still a bit far a way.

That steady paced run looks more like a progression run :) I LOVE putt putt and we also always play when we go to the beach. I wonder why that is?? I have no idea, really.
