2015 Wishes (Friday Five)

Happy New Year!

It's time to look ahead.  I'm not a big fan of making New Year's resolutions.  Life tends to interrupt the best laid plans, so I'm just calling them wishes instead.  Luckily, my rule book allows me to amend my wish list as necessary!  Yes, I make my own rules.

Run My First Marathon

After 28 half marathons, it's just freakin' time.  I'm not getting any younger here.  Enough said.

Run a Half in a New State

I love my half marathons.  I also love to travel.  This one is a no-brainer.  You get to kill two birds with one stone.  Fun, fun. fun.  {Well, not the killing birds part...}

Run Double Half Marathons or a Series of Half Marathons

If I double up and run a Saturday and Sunday half, I would go up a Half Fanatic moon level.  If I run 4 within 9 days, I go up yet another moon level.  I know it may sound silly, but it is something I'd like to achieve.  Jupiter and Mars, here I come!

Incorporate Strength Training

I do not like the gym.  I am horrible at strength training, or cross training, or anything but running!  I need to try something to see if it helps me be a stronger runner.  (See Wishes #1 #3 and #5)

Run a Sub 2:00 Half

I hesitate to even put this out there.  I was 53 seconds from achieving this in 201453 seconds!  I realize that by choosing to run 17 half marathons last year (plus 28 other races), I forced this goal aside.  Seriously, there was no time for training between each half to work on my speed.  I also realize, at least for me, it depends heavily on weather conditions (low humidity PLEASE for heaven's sake) and the course itself.  So, maybe just maybe...  A girl can dream, can't she?

Mar on the Run! for hosting the Friday Five.

I'd like to hear what your goals are for 2015!
Will anyone else run their first marathon?

  3. Nice goals! Do you have a marathon in mind? I also love the run a half in a new state idea - doing the same thing! Will be added SC to the mix (MD, DC, FL, VA, NY, CA, PA) and hoping DE and MA will be in the mix.

    1. I'm looking at one in mid March. It's not a lot of time to train, but I've got a good base. We'll see. Which half are you doing in SC?

  7. all great goals! I felt the same about the marathon - 19 half marathons under my belt before the full even happened! Glad I did it not sure if I have another in me or not. And that sub 2--- eek good luck to us both this year!

  8. Exciting that you'll be running your first full & trying for a sub-2 half! I have free access to a gym but do all my strength training at home. If the gym doesn't work out for & you have space at home, maybe try a home routine? Some of the best exercises use body weight only & don't call for equipment (squats, squat jumps, lunges, push-ups, planks, etc.) I've found a lot of good routines on the Runners World site.

    1. Great tip. I'm pretty much toast in the evenings after running. working, cooking and chores. I could do the gym at lunch time. But, this is an excellent idea for weekends! Thanks.

  13. Don't you just hate arm jiggle? I waterski for that but unfortunately it's only warm a few months. I did some speedwork this summer but I think my main problem is too many races. (Ouch that hurt to say!) Secondly, it's the humidity. I'll try to be smarter this year. We'll see... Keep up your marathon training. Hope all goes well and stays well.

  17. Love your wishes for the year--all of them are things I'd love to do, as well! Definitely hefty running goals, but of course all of these don't have to happen this year!

  18. Fantastic goals! I'm working on more strength training too. More yoga and starting up pump class--the pump class because I'm terrible at doing free weights on my own... Here's to marathon #1 for both of us this year! :)

  19. You can totally do a sub2 half. I've had a few, but not in the past year. Granted, the 2 I ran were in high humidity and heat, but still! You got this!

  22. We have some of the same "wishes"! Strength and sub-2 half. I have thought about HF moon levels but right now I'm just happy to be a HF and then started dreaming of Marathon Maniacs. I must be losing it... :D

  23. Great goals! Good luck with the marathon training! I have one under my belt and will probably keep it that way for awhile. I am sad to say I haven't sat down and wrote out any goals yet although it will probably not be anything too crazy.
