Weekend Update

All of my early morning runs this past week were in the fog.  Hello humidity, I missed you (NOT)!  OK, I feel better now.

I ran another 5k Saturday hoping to work on speed.  I've run the Enlisted Heritage race a few times. It was about 65 degrees and a little humid.   I had forgotten how tough mile 2 is.  It is all uphill (116 feet in one mile), and at times quite steep. I was hoping for an overall average pace of 8:30 or less, but mile 2 massacred that plan.  However, I felt good with my mile 3 pace of 8:19.   I'm thinking at least that mile counts somewhat as speed work -- yeah sounds good, I'll go with that.   My overall time was enough for 3rd place in my age group.   It was nice to visit with my running buddies Jenny and Valerie.

The remainder of Saturday was spent at a T-ball game, running errands, doing yard work and capped off with PoPo's delicious grilled burgers.  I also got to snuggle with my new granddaughter and bake cookies with my grandson.

These are blooming in the yard

Sunday, I ran 11 slow miles in preparation for the Biggest Loser half next weekend.  This race was in February last year and I did well with a 2:01:08.  There must have been an issue with the date because the race is still Mardi Gras themed (wasn't that 2 months ago?).  It's already warm and humid now and difficult for me to breathe easily.  I've set no goals for this race, no unrealistic expectations.  I'm just going to run comfortable (until the last few miles anyway) and enjoy it.  Dare I run without my Garmin?  Eek!  No can do.

Did anyone else race this weekend?

  1. No race...I"ve got a 10 miler next weekend...but I ran a tough 12 today. Conditions were perfect. It was all me. My legs were tired. But I pushed through it.

Great job on the AG award!

  5. We've had a pretty humid spring but we've also had storms that we need. I know Saturday saw a number of races in DFW and it was actually perfect weather.

  10. Congrats! I don't know how you picked it up in mile 3. Mile 2 with the hill would have worn me out!

    1. My last FL half was in December. It was horribly muggy and warm. You get that pretty much year round.

  15. Thank you! I admit, I do like my Highlighter Orange tank. The louder the better. LOL. I hear you! My run this morning was foggy again. I guess if I could run after sunup, some of that would burn off, but I don't have that luxury.

  16. Nice work on the AG placement! And I say count the entire 5K as speedwork ;)

I hope it ends up being nice this weekend for the HM! :)

  17. Congrats on your age group place - you're tearing it up this year!

My next race isn't until May 26 - the GW Parkway 10-Miler that runs from Mount Vernon along the beautiful Potomac River to Old Town Alexandria. It's a fun race that my husband and I have run for many years. It's only drawback is that it runs on the George Washington Parkway which is concrete, and it beats the heck out of our legs.

    1. That sounds like a pretty run but I wouldn't like the concrete either. There's a lady in my neighborhood that always runs on the sidewalk. I don't understand that. I have not raced that distance. I'd like to do one.
