aRRRRgh...

Run

I woke fairly early Saturday morning and decided to do a slow 5 mile run/walk.  I had already run 6 miles the day before and we were planning to head to the lake later in the day.  I wanted to save some energy for water skiing.  After much anticipation, finally the day was here!  And what a beautiful day it was!

Really??

Off to the lake we went and everything started smoothly.  We all held our breath...and the boat cranked perfectly after sitting unused for 7 months.  {...Exhale...}  We headed up the river at full speed, the only one PoPo is familiar with.  That's when it went very un-smoothly.  Our boat blew a gasket!  Thankfully, PoPo had played golf many times with someone who lived nearby.  He graciously came to our rescue and towed us in with his pontoon boat.

The entire breakdown and rescue only lasted 2 hours.  I played with my GoPro (picture above).  The videos were not interesting (or full of bleep-able language -- ha ha).  We consoled ourselves at the Mexican restaurant on the way home.  This is definitely an unplanned, aggravating expense.  I'm very disappointed that my water skiing will be put on hold.  I can only hope the repair won't take long.  This is our 3rd boat and it has been the best by far, so I can't complain.  She was purchased as an anniversary gift and we christened her The Happy Anna.

Ride

I slept late Sunday morning (so unlike me) and decided it was already too hot for a run.  It was another beautiful day but without any breeze whatsoever.  Besides, I had already run the 2 previous days.  May was a scheduled low mileage "resting" month anyway (today is still May, right?).

After mulling it over with coffee on the porch, I chose to give Bertha a spin instead.  I pumped up her flat front tire and off we went.  We made it 16 miles before her front tire became too low.  I was hoping for 15 miles and therefore  was very pleased.   I was also thrilled because I finally coaxed Bertha into gears 14 and 21.  Good old gal!

My Fitbit indicated the entire ride (well over 90 minutes) was spent in my aerobic zone.  (My runs are always in peak zone and I'm finding it difficult to pull those numbers down.)  I just love that kind of information and felt I got a good cardio workout.

Relax

The in-between of the weekend was spent relaxing in my back yard.  I didn't do much yard work this weekend (or housework for that matter) but chose instead to just enjoy the fruits of my previous labor.  This is the view from my back porch swing.

Tell me about your weekend!  Did anyone race?

One more week until marathon training officially begins!

  1. I am so sorry about your boat! Repairs on the fun stuff are never fun. I don't have a boat, but we have a 5th wheel and it seems like no matter how great care you take with things, on occasion things just happen and for some reason they are always expensive:)
Hope you can get it fixed and get up on those ski's soon!!!
I also use my Fitbit to gage exercise, I was finally able to get out and workout this past week, I no longer look like the most inactive fitbit user, LOL (I hated that even if it was out of my control:) We had a great competition group last week, lots and lots of very active users! Love it!
Your pool is calling my name, I did go out and get a tiny bit of sun today (my legs needed a little color:) but I think I need to hit my sister up and spend a pool day, sounds fabulous!

    1. Yeah, there always something when you have those extra playthings to maintain. We do have a very competitive Fitbit challenge group, which makes it fun. I always say I'm going to take a day off work and spend around the pool with a few girlfriends, but then I never do.

  2. Sorry about the boat! We just sold ours and will be saying good bye to it this week. I'm so sad, but I know hubby wanted a different one so we'll keep looking.

I'm jealous of your clear swimming pool. I'm still working on mine!

    1. How fun to be buying a new boat! We don't cover our pool during the winter so it actually stays ready year round. The pool store I use tests my water for free and tells me what to do. Otherwise, I wouldn't have a clue. HA.

  3. Oooooo that sucks about your boat! I hope it's fixed quickly with minimal damage to the checkbook! We're looking for another boat too. Well, I say "another"... it's "another" boat for D but a first for me. When we first started dating, he had JUST sold his boat. It was a 33-foot cruiser that he rarely had time to use and was tired of paying the annual dock fees for. Whatever we get will be small enough to haul back and forth on a trailer!

I went out for a short run yesterday and it turned into an even shorter run. lol I should really learn to check the radar BEFORE I leave the house. I was no more than a half mile from home when my phone's weather app alerted me to a severe thunderstorm warning, so I turned around at the one-mile mark.

    1. It would be fun to be boat shopping! Ours says it will hold 12 people, but it's really more like 8. But that is plenty big enough for us. I'm so glad you are back to some running!

  4. Grrrr to the boat! At this rate, neither of us will be waterskiing! It's so cold here--there won't be any waterskiing until July, I'm afraid.

  5. Sounds like a great weekend despite the boat incident! I hope the fix is easy and not too expensive.

  6. Well poo on the boat! I know how much you were wanting to get out there. Hopefully the repair won't take long. I was able to enjoy a 5 Mile trail run with a friend and our dog Wrangler but Sunday was spent mostly inside the RV watching it rain :(

    1. We have had so much rain this year. I just lucked out with this weekend as it rained later in the evenings. I wish I had a nice trail to run. I need to do some research.

  7. I find it easier to stay in recovery and aerobic zones on the bike as well. I don't seem to have that "gear" when running. It's like walking or almost threshold pace. Sounds like a nice weekend, with adventure at sea ;)

    1. Exactly. To stay in an aerobic zone while running, I wouldn't be running at all -- I'd be walking.

  9. Oh my, that sounds like our boat stories! We live on a lake and own an old mastercraft ski boat that sits in the boathouse on the lake- thank goodness! I am certain there have been more bad days on the lake than good ones! LOL! if it starts it a miracle but you know the hubby just can't part with it! :) We had to play catch up this weekend since i have traveled the last 2- not as much fun! Have a great one!

  11. That's so awesome that you own a boat! That's a goal of mine, but first I have to get a house. Hopefully yours is repaired soon! Doesn't sound fun at all. Enjoy your last week pre-training!

Oh man. The boat. Ha ha. We've been boating all our lives and it's been nothing but trouble the whole time... so this seems completely normal to me. I wonder if it isn't? I hope it's fixed soon so you can ski!

    1. Yes, it is quite the norm. People contemplating boat ownership should be forewarned. LOL. I've got lots of boat, trailer, tires, plugs, bad weather, etc. stories. This one's engine has been excellent, so I won't complain too much.

  20. Aww that stinks about your boat. Hope it is an easy fix. Several times we helped boated when we lived in Virginia Beach .....there was a sandbar in the bay behind out house and so many times the boaters had no clue and got stuck! It made for an exciting day for my husband. Nice bike ride in your aerobic zone. I have never used a HRM, but maybe I should since I am old!

    1. I am really liking the HRM. My other one was a chest strap which I loathed wearing, and didn't. My problem is trying to keep my heartrate down on a run. I can't seem to do it without walking.

  21. Bummer about Happy Anna! I do love the boat name though. We had a boat when I was growing up, though I don't remember if it ever had a name. Seems like it spent just as much or more time broken down than it did running :)
Your view from your swing looks peaceful!

  22. Man! What a bummer about the boat! I hope you have good news soon; I love getting out on the lake and, even though I haven't done it in awhile, water skiing is so much fun. I did race last weekend and it turned out to be a good one. I hope you're having a good week and I can't wait to hear all about this weekend; thanks so much for participating in the link up!
