The wind did keep it very comfortable outside. I managed to get a lot of yard work done. For those of you that don't know - it's one of my very favorite things to do. I attempt a whimsical tropical theme in my backyard. This is my collection of crabs (bahaha -- doesn't THAT sound awful?). I repainted most of them last year so only one needed painting this year. I got that taken care of.
I ran 6 miles on Saturday and 5 miles on Sunday. Both were early morning, high humidity, just "get 'er done" type of runs. The family came over Sunday afternoon. We grilled chicken and sausage and swam a little, even though the water was chilly. 5 year old grandsons don't seem to notice!
My dogs were happy that I walked them every day. Let me just say, Fitbit challenges will definitely get you off your tush. I hit 20,000 steps on Saturday. Woohoo. It's addictive. I can't wait to see my step counts when I get back to longer runs. I really appreciate the heart rate information. I have my Fitbit set to display HR when I tap it. I can check it at any time during my runs. I LOVE this feature!
There is a nice and shady running/walking trail in my neighborhood park. I usually don't run inside the park. All of the trees seem to block the breeze so I find it cooler and easier to run the streets. But this is where I walk the dogs. It's a big treat for them to chase park squirrels versus their regular run-of-the-mill yard squirrels. When it's time to leave and walk toward home, one of my dogs does her best to refuse. She doesn't get very far with her defiance as she only weighs 14 pounds.
So that was my fairly quiet, uneventful Memorial Day weekend.
I hope you had fun! What did you do?
I didn't get to ski either, even if it hadn't rained, it's been so cold here, that the water was about 65 degrees. That's a little too cold for me! I hope we both get at it soon!
ReplyDeleteMaybe next weekend! Our water temp is up to 78-80, which is very doable. I'm going to take my GoPro (I've been trying to master it) and get some footage before I get too old. HA!!
DeleteSounds like a wonderful weekend. I love those crabs!!
ReplyDeleteOh, thanks. Just a bit of whimsy.
DeleteI don't get info the mowing or edging stuff. I got menfolk for that! LOL. But I love pulling weeds (so satisfying!), planting flowers, and creating little scenes around the back yard. The crabs are definitely my most whimsical. I try not to get too tacky with the yard art. But if there are gnats out, I can't deal with the yard work! I would have a meltdown!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a lovely path! It was calling for rain here today but we didn't see one drop. It turned out to be a totally gorgeous and sunny day!
ReplyDeleteIt makes for a nice evening stroll.
Delete20,000???? That's fantastic!! I love fitbit challenges
ReplyDeleteThey definitely keep you motivated...just do a few more steps.
DeleteSorry to hear the weather didn't cooperate with your plans. Love your collection of crabs! Fitbit challenges definitely help encourage! :)
ReplyDeleteThey sure do. I just try my best not to come in last!
DeleteI love all the crabs! How fun and whimsical for sure, my yard needs more fun to it. I am still after 10 years trying to figure out what I want to do with it and finally getting a handle on my flower beds. Sounds like a great weekend! Mine was pretty laid back as well, some cow work, yard work, and running.
ReplyDeleteThanks. My trick is to tackle smaller areas and not try to do the entire yard at once. That is a little too overwhelming.
DeleteSorry about not being able to ski!!! I had to work yesterday, so no holiday fun for me which is ok because I think too many forget the meaning behind Memorial day. I love your yard décor!!!! Want to come over and help me with mine? hehe
ReplyDeleteHopefully the weather will be better this weekend. It's a bummer you had to work. I always think of my Dad on patriotic holidays. He was a World War II vet.
DeleteI love the garden crabs! So pretty! You are so rocking those fitbit challenges!!! It does make you move more!!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks. Girl, I can't keep up with your steps! I'm wondering, do you ever sit down?
DeleteThe crabs are cute! I've been looking into the Fitbit. I didn't know that they had a HR feature that was so accessible. That's good to know! :)
ReplyDeleteThe Fitbit Charge HR model has a heart rate sensor. You can set it to display any stat you want (steps, calories, stairs, time, etc.) when you double tap the screen. I chose heart rate. It also seems very accurate!
DeleteI love your crabs. :) I also did a bunch of yard work/gardening this weekend. I had to laugh at your 14-pound dog being defiant and not wanting to leave the park!
ReplyDeleteShe is so much bigger in her own head!! I used to run with her. She loved it and would never get tired. But now that I have two dogs, I just can't.
DeleteThat path looks perfect for running! Sounds like you got some good miles in too. I have a Jawbone UP24, and it is very addicting!
ReplyDeleteThose are so much more stylish than Fitbits. I've got to get some bling for mine.
DeleteYour garden crabs are so cute! I agree it is amazing how cold water can be and kids just don't seem to care. Sounds like a fun weekend!
ReplyDeleteThe older I get, the more I don't like to be cold. It's a good thing running keeps me toasty.
DeleteI love fitbit challenges- thanks for friending me! I love the crabs! Cute way to decorate your fence. Sorry about the weather, we were in Phoenix and it was beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThey are fun. The competition is fierce, though. You'll have to join in the next one! My dogs will get a lot of walking in.
