It's Annoying!

Dear Gum Smacker,

Please keep your gum quietly inside your mouth.  I have nothing against chewing gum, but I don't want to see it or hear it.  I'm not impressed with your humongous bubbles that pop and stick to your face.  You know that constant popping, cracking and sucking sound?  It's Annoying.  And, whatever you do -- don't you dare spit that wad on the ground.

Dear Neighbor,

Please don't do your yard work all afternoon on both weekend days.  You are long, long retired.  You've earned the right to do this miserably hot task in the cool early morning hours of the work week.  Don't wait until 11:00 a.m. Saturday and Sunday (on the dot!) to begin your edging, weed eating, trimming, mowing and blowing.  You see, I'm in my back yard attempting to enjoy my weekend.  I'm sure you can hear my dogs barking incessantly to Annoy You, because they don't like all of that ruckus either.

Dear Runner,

Hi there!  I run too - just as hard and dedicated as you.  I wave to you every morning.  But you refuse to look at me.  In fact, you purposely turn your head away.  Can't you acknowledge that I'm out there too?  All of the other walkers and runners do.  I'm not picky.  A quick wave, simple smile, or nod is all I'm asking for.  Don't worry, I'm not going to Annoy You by trying to be your friend (as if!).  But please  witch  hag  lady, show some common courtesy and respect.

Dear Gnats,

I love the great outdoors.  This includes working in my yard, even in the hottest conditions.  But, if you are out -- I simply can't tolerate you.  I don't like when you swarm around the creek near the running path either.  It's Annoying to have you stuck all over my face, sweaty body and clothes.  I don't want to even think of how many zillions of you I've inhaled.   Save yourselves, for goodness sake!

Dear Hip,

Why the heck now?  I really need you to bolster yourself for another 16 weeks or so.  It's Annoying that you picked now -- when I need to start training for Chicago -- to rear your ugly bursitis head.  I haven't abused you...yet.  I even backed off my mileage for a couple of months to give you plenty of rest.  Come on.  You can do it!

Sincerely,
HoHo

Dear Reader,

  1. Love this! Oh man, Deb opened Pandora's box when she picked this word, at least for me! Altho, I had another post in mind when I wrote it, so I limited my annoyance. I'll post it in the morning. FB is giving me issues. Another annoying thing...

    1. When I saw the word for this week, I thought this is going to be GOOD. I think we could both write a book on this subject. Maybe we should co-host a monthly annoyance linkup. Monthly Miffs? Ticked Talk? Seriously!

    2. I'd participate! I'd ALWAYS have plenty of material!

  2. LOL I seriously laughed out loud with "Dear Runner". I do not know why I let my feelings get hurt every single time I get ignored. AND what I really dislike is when I decide "ok, no more I am not going to be the happy waving nerd anymore". Then guess what happens they say HI first and I feel like crap! I hope that your hip starts behaving!

    1. I don't think this particular person will ever greet me. Some times I give up for a while. Then I think, NO! I will wave whether she likes it or not. I guess you could say now I wave to annoy her.

  3. Gnats definitely! I was getting all bit up the other day on trails...maybe that's mosquitos. Either way all bugs are annoying. I try to acknowledge other runners I pass but when you are on a trail on a busy morning it's hard to say hi every minute.

    1. It's completely understandable on a busy trail not to greet everyone -- you can't, but I see the same handful of people every day.

  4. What is it about gnats, anyway? How can something so small be so annoying? They drive me insane! And I'm sure people in my neighborhood think I'm insane as I walk the dogs or run waving my arms around.

    1. Ha! I haven't thought about that. When I walk my dogs in the park each evening, I am constantly slapping at mosquitoes. I'm sure it looks quite comical to a passerby in a car. I also like to catch the fireflies and let them ride on the palm on my hand. I'm sure I look like a freak.

  5. So weird that the runner in your neighborhood turns her head when you wave! I'm not sure why anyone would do that. And I'm with you on the gnats. There seems to be more of them this year for some reason.

    1. I don't understand it. It's baffled me for years! We've had a lot of rain this Spring. Maybe that breeds gnats? I swear, sometimes it looks like someone sprinkled pepper on me.

    1. I always run in my neighborhood so I've passed this woman for years. I don't get it. She was walking her dog the other day when I was...on the very same sidewalk. I swore I was going to ask her about running and make her say something. About 10 feet from me, she stepped into the street and crossed the road. Okie Dokie.

  8. Great laugh for this morning, thanks:) Sorry about the hip bursitis, I have had that in the past, I have had great success with cortizone shots that have those 3 other anti inflammatory ingredients in it!
I get annoyed with rude runners who won't even give a nod, I mean I know some people get in the zone and zone out, I have done it. But when you see the same people several times a week, it seems rude not to at least give a nod or a wave or a "morning" to each other.
I have the opposite with a few neighbors, I don't care when they do their yard work, I just wish they would do it. Serious lack of even caring from a few of mine. We've even gone over just to mow it so we didn't have to look at 3 foot weeds... I just wish people would have a little respect:)
On that note, my pet peeve is people who leave their garbage cans out in front or in front of their house, my dad raised me that garbage cans should not decorate your yard, they should be kept in a garage or out back unseen:)

    1. If I can't get my hip in control, I'm going to look into either an oral or injectable med. I don't have time for this mess! Yeah, I feel you on the NO yard work. I could have it much worse. I don't like garbage cans on the street either. That is pure laziness. Do you have the pink ones for breast cancer in Utah? Great cause, but what an eyesore sitting in front on the house.

  9. Stupid annoying hip! Stupid annoying aging! It feels like a sauna when I step out the door at 5:30 in the morning. It sucks the breath from you. I'm not sure some people have even experience this type of air. I know you have. Everyone should. Apparently gnats are easily digestible. I should know.

  10. I can't stand it when people can't chew with their mouths shut! so annoying, or when people try to talk to me in the lounge at work when I am not in the mood to talk, I have my phone out for a reason! Or when people ask why I don't run to work. I get annoyed easily :)

    1. Yeah, they ought to get the hint about the phone. Running to work? How is that even feasible? I guess if you had a shower and it was close enough...

  11. Oh my goodness... I about loose it with the gum smacking. Right through me.
Gnat... UGHHHHH - I hate summer where the sweat is like a fly-trap to them. I have to literally SCRUB my face sometimes to get them off.... eeewwwwww..

    1. It's that popping noise (where they suck on it to get it to pop) that just grates on my nerves. The gnats make me look like I'm covered with pepper.

  12. Ohhhh, your hip. That's incredibly frustrating! I am in the same boat with my foot. Why do this to me when I need you for a couple of fun things in the fall. Stupid heel. Stupid hip.

  13. Love your annoyances ha. The lawn work one is extremely frustrating on the weekends! And the running one, I don't think it's too much to ask for some simple form of acknowledgement either. Some either look away or give a really intense glare that just makes me want to say, "well, good morning to you too" haha. And I would be lying if I say there's some people that I know it bugs them when I say it, but it kind of gives me pleasure :D. One of the things I find really annoying is when people have an attitude about my last name, especially at races. I will go to pick up my bib and say my last name and a lot of times they give a big sigh and say "no, you're LAST name." And I just smile and say that it is. I realize it's an easy mistake since my last name is a common first, but my goodness they get so mad because they think I'm not understanding the question haha.

    1. I still wave to the woman out of pure annoyance now. I've never thought about your last name sounding like a first name, but you are right. That would be annoying -- people thinking YOU didn't understand.

  15. Ha love all these I'll add lady on the cell phone in the inside bank line. No freaking wonder they have NO CELL PHONES in big bold black and white posters, for idiots like you who blast your entire conversation all over the what would otherwise be quiet bank. Get off the freaking phone when the teller is trying to complete your transaction that you don't have filled out correctly......Geeez ok I should really get off my soapbox now.... ;)

    1. It is so annoying to have to listen to anyone's private cell phone conversation, wherever it is. I can imagine in a quiet bank, it's extra annoying. I bet she was popping her gum too. HA!

    1. Apparently like me, you can't have peace and quiet on the weekends. And this guy is elderly. He doesn't need to be out in the heat of the day.

  18. Love this! What a great idea to write letters to a few things that annoy you. I could certainly do the same with lots of things, for example:
Dear person riding in the left lane,
Please move over! The left lane on the interstate is for passing and you're screwing up traffic by riding along out there. There is always someone faster than you, so please stop using this lane at your leisure. Also, I really like driving with my cruise control on and you really mess this up for me!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Excellent annoyance!! I loathe having the adjust my cruise control for someone like that. Or better yet, someone who doesn't use the cruise at all. Speeds up, slows down, speeds up, slows down. Argh!
