What motivates me...
- To get out of the bed before 5:30 for a run?
- To run that steep hill again and not walk a step?
- To do one more repeat when I feel exhausted?
- To get in a long run week after week?
- To race again when I was not happy with my last performance?
The achievement...
- Of doing more that I ever thought possible!
- Of being better that I thought I could be!
- Of experiencing something new, different or challenging!
- Of knowing that, no matter what, I ALWAYS feel better after a run!
- Of proving that hard work does pay off!

Love this! I think it's the feeling I have after a run or workout that really motivates me.
ReplyDeleteYes. I always feel better. Always.
DeleteInteresting post. I am motivated to always do better, and as I age, the value of progress, however small seems like a much bigger achievement. Does that make sense?
ReplyDeleteIt sure does! There is a lot of work that goes into any progress. I understand the value of the smallest gain!
DeleteLove this. I feel the same way! Sometimes getting up at 5:30 isn't so fun but it's ALWAYS worth it after the run is over!! :)
ReplyDeleteNot always easy but always worth it. That's why we do it again and again!
DeleteMy goal is to always sleep past 5:30...lol. when you have a dog that keeps you up, you value the extra sleep! If I was able to run, I would be getting up earlier to beat the heat though.
ReplyDeleteI have dogs that like to get up early! I'm usually up anyway (I never set an alarm) so I might as well run.
DeleteThat picture...is that Magen's Bay in St Thomas?
ReplyDeleteClose! It's Trunk Bay on neighboring St. John's island. There is a snorkeling course laid out here. The US national park also serves frozen daiquiris. I thought that was odd but very much appreciated!
DeleteThe feeling of accomplishment is worth the push some days
ReplyDeleteThat it is. I always feel better after a run.
DeleteYou are not alone! I'm struggling too. I know it's heat and humidity but that scares me. How am I going to train for a marathon in this? Lots of walking I guess.
ReplyDeleteYup right there with you I always feel better after a run and hard work does pay off! Great post on motivation! :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, it gets me out the door time and time again.
DeleteI'm nodding my head to all these. Yes, yes, yes!!! As tough as it gets, I will keep coming back for more for all these reasons.
ReplyDeleteThere is always something to learn too! I forgot that one.
DeleteGreat post, I can totally 2nd these!
ReplyDeleteI have to say, you actually motivated me last week, Friday I woke up and I was not in the mood to get up and run, and I was having one of those, do I need more sleep or don't I... Well I looked at the notifications on my phone and Fitbit had one for me saying you'd already hit your goal (Yes I sleep late, but in my defense you live in an earlier time zone:) I was like, okay if she can hit her goal before I roll out of bed the least I can do is roll out of bed and go for a run/walk:) So thanks for the motivation:)
You're welcomed and I'm laughing here. You just don't know how motivated I was Friday by fear that you were going to leap frog me! Since you are in a later time zone, I just knew you would get me. Ha ha! I get the notifications too. I think I walked my dogs an extra mile just in case. I love the days when I meet my goal before 6:30 am!!
DeleteThose achievements are so motivating to me! And I like to think I can always do more.
ReplyDeleteI hope there are many more "mores" for both of us. :)
DeleteOh I love this so much! Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up.
Thanks. I enjoy the challenging words you give us! It motivates me to think.
DeleteIf only I could motivate myself to getup early and run before work. I used to. Gotten old and lazy. Like the achievement motivations - They are mine too.
ReplyDeleteTry it again. You may enjoy it. If not, just stick with what works for you!
DeleteGreat post! We had a saying back when I played soccer: Hard work pays off. First to the ball, last to quit. I'm not chasing a ball around a field when I run, but the same principles definitely still apply.
ReplyDeleteOh, I like that! It's all about putting in the work.
DeleteI don't mind getting up earlier, I have always been afraid I was going to miss something if I slept in late! :) Running reminds me that nothing is impossible!
ReplyDeleteI'm the same way. If I sleep late or don't get active early, I feel like the day is over!
