Runfessions (August)

I runfess...

Our dew point dropped this week.  On Tuesday, the moisture content was 10 points less than our normal summer Swamp Fest.  While on my run, my iPhone shuffled onto the Boston Pops version of "Sleigh Ride" which always makes my heart sing.

While my heart was getting happy, I started thinking about how I had just run 19 miles in the HHH (hellacious heat & humidity) and had come out on the other side unscathed.  Wow!  And, now how the air felt SO GOOD.  I knew it's wasn't going to stay that way, but I was so appreciative of the reprieve and the glimpse of the light at the end of the tunnel...I cried.

I had to have a serious talk with myself.  Get it together, Ho!  Put your heart strings away.  You know it's hard to run and cry!  And you certainly can't let this glorious air go to waste!

Just Hear Those Sleigh Bells Jingling, Ring-Ting-Tingling Too....

I runfess...

I've never participated in a virtual race.  I've always felt it would be quite lackluster to run without the buzzing environment of an actual race.  Yes, I require Rah Rah.  It was so irritating to scroll through the zillions of virtual races on Active.com in order to find an actual race that I stopped using it.  Ugh.  Who cares about those?

Well...in a moment of weakness, I caved.  I saw the Sole Sister Run highlighted on a couple of blogs and realized my sister would be visiting on those dates.  We will line up at an invisible start, be cheered by non-existent spectators, cross a finish line probably marked by a pine cone, and partake in pathetic post race fare.  (I hear the race director is a slacker.  Ha!)  I'll let you know how it goes.

Do you have anything you need to Runfess?

I'm linking up with Marcia today from Marcia's Healthy Slice
Please stop by and join in with your Runfessions!

  1. I get the cries of joy and relief some cool weather evokes! Active really lists virtual races? Can you tell I never read emails from them anymore? Ha! Thanks for linking up!

    1. I don't read the emails any more either. At least Running in the USA was not listing virtual races the last time I checked.

  2. I have been loving this cooler weather we've been having! I'm taking advantage of it while it's here :) And that's great that you're doing that virtual race with your sister. I look forward to hearing how you like it. I like virtual races enough to do a couple per year, but that's it.

    1. I tried to take advantage of it this week too and pick up the paces some, because I knew it wouldn't last long.

  3. I need to do a virtual race! I actually don't like spectators (I'd rather be alone in my misery!) so a virtual race sounds great!

    1. I thought the little shoe charm was cute, although small. You are right, we might as well get something out of it.

  5. I like the rah-rah of races too but I sometimes like the freedom to do things on my own with virtual races. Cant wait to hear what you think about it.

    1. It was nice to fit it into my schedule and not have to go anywhere.

  6. I didn't know Active even listed virtual races?! I've done one or two but admit they were far from stellar performances - I like the rah-rah ;)

    1. They list the same virtual race multiple times for different cities. I wish I could filter them out. I think my performance would have been better at a real race.

Looking forward to the sole Sister run tomorrow before I go in to work. Seriously. 7 miles?

  9. I'm not a crier. I'm sure if I ran 19 I might be! But seriously I don't cry easily. I come from stoic stock.

I can remember about 10 yrs ago - before I was a runner- we had just put my 21 yr old cat to sleep. I went out for a walk. Carole king's You're So Far Away came on & yes, I was crying as I walked. And now I get so sad when I hear it.

I don't do virtual races. Not for me. I run alone enough!

    1. I don't cry much, but when I do it's the oddest times. That is sad about your cat but what a long life! Certain songs remind me of sad occasions.

  10. I actually have my first virtual race coming up next month. It's a fund raiser for a little local boy who has cancer, and I really wanted to help out. A bunch of our MRTT ladies are running it as well, so we'll make it an event!

You and your sister should go out to brunch for the ultimate post-race fare! :-)

  11. Great idea to do a virtual race with your sister -- that will make it more real. ;-)

    1. It was nice to share the accomplishment even though we ended up not doing it exactly together.
