Weekly Wrap #1

Welcome to the first ever Weekly Wrap!

This is a new weekly linkup hosted by yours truly and my good friend Tricia @ MissSippiPiddlin.  We want to hear about your weekly adventures.  You are encouraged to include anything you did to be active or anything you considered fun.  We want to hear everything and how you amazing women accomplish it all.  You can summarize your whole week or just a small portion of it.  It's up to you!  See rules here.

Monday is a typical rest day and therefore my first run of the week was not until Tuesday morning.  We were blessed with a slightly lower dew point so I decided to change things up and run my race pace run instead of an easy one.  It was still 75 degrees, but only 84% humidity...a colossal improvement.  I ran 7 miles at a 9:21 average pace.  That's better than it has been and I was pleased.  As the temperature and humidity decrease at some point in the future, I pray that number becomes lower.

Wednesday was another rest day.  I ran 4 miles on Thursday and 5 miles on Friday.  These were easy pace runs and nothing significant to report other than I saw another snake Friday.  It is the 4th one this summer.  Three of the snakes have been within a few yards of one another.  {I wonder what's going on in that house?}  The only other thing of note was that the humidity was almost unbearable on Thursday.  And so it goes...



I usually don't share recipes but I thought I'd share this for anyone who is anti mayonnaise like we are.  PoPo had a horrible experience as a child and I never liked the smell or the taste.  Did you know you can substitute mayo with ranch dressing in most recipes?  This is my tuna salad made with white albacore tuna, red grapes, sweet pickle relish and just enough lite ranch dressing to stick it together.  Crisp apple chunks also work well, in lieu of grapes.  If you are not into mayo, you should try it.  If you make a sandwich, add a slice of cheddar cheese.  It's delicious!  Funny, Deviled Eggs are the most requested item for family functions...made with ranch dressing.



Saturday was the typical lake day.  We got a late start but since it was just PoPo and me, I was able to ski 2 solid hours, with two much needed rest breaks.  It had me wishing I was 20 years younger as the conditions were ideal.  IDEAL.  There was just a slight chop to the water.  If the water is glassy, it's too slick for my particular ski.  My weekly cross training was enjoyed excessively.  Oh yeah, Mexican food and Margaritas were consumed on the way home.  Ole' !!

It's all about the size of your spray!


This was a cut-back week on the training plan I don't follow.  Because the humidity levels had returned to the extreme, I was glad to only plan for 12 miles.  I try not to sugarcoat anything, so let me just admit it was a Dig Deep {Why-Am-I-Doing-This-Again?} Day.   I kept reminding myself about last Sunday's good 16 miler and Tuesday's much improved pace run.  They will not all be filled with butterfly kisses and roses.  It was executed:  One.Step.At.A.Time.

I kicked around in the pool Sunday afternoon which truly seems to help my cranky hips and keep my legs from getting sore after a long run.  The teens start school on Thursday (!!).  So you know what I'll be doing Thursday night...the mountains of necessary paperwork.  Next weekend, 18 miles is on the long run schedule.  Yikes.  Please Mr. Dew Point, be kind.

  1. I am not a big mayo person either and I usually replace it by hummus. Works great and is much healthier. Good for you for running in all that humidity... humidity just kills me...

    1. I like hummus too, but even better are the chick peas it's made from. I love those things just plain. It's what I eat with my turkey sandwich most days at lunch. Humidity kills me too, but I don't have a choice right now. I hope you will continue to link with us!

  2. I've never thought of replacing mayo with ranch dressing. I'll have to give that a try.
    Great job finishing your run. I had a pretty rough long run this week as well. Running can certainly be humbling at times.

    1. So many people I've read today struggled with their long run this weekend. It helps to know I'm not the only one! It's definitely humbling, which makes it all the more rewarding when things go right.

  3. Great week! and I agree on the weather- I am going to melt into a puddle down here! Great picture of you skiing. The hubby was at the Show ski nationals all weekend and comes home today. I think ranch dressing makes everything just a little better!

    1. How fun! Does he water ski? It's been ages since I've seen a show and I've never been to a competition. I figure when I'm 90, maybe I can enter and win my age group. LOL. It's the one GOOD thing about this heat & humidity. I hope you will continue to link with us!

  4. You had a great train in week! Surprised the both of us got in all we needed to do ha! I don't min mayo so much but it does have a lot of calories. I was eating chicken salad yesterday an thought I didn't need to put as much mayo. I would love to try maybe a lite peppercorn ranch as a sub. Thanks for sharing that! And again for all your hard work on this it's going to be great!

  5. What fun! I'll save the wrap-up picture and start using it for my weekly recaps! I'm not a fan of mayo either, and avoid it as much as possible. I hate how delis will slap on the condiments and drown the sandwich.

  6. I'm not a big mayo person either. I sometimes replace it with plain greek yogurt and that usually works well.

    1. Yes, I've heard of people using yogurt too. I usually don't keep plain yogurt, so I'll have to get some and try that out!

  7. Haha! I'm on that same "seat of the pants" plan. I'm thinking one more week before I can cutback. Actually I have a race that week and I refuse to do any extra miles before or after it like i did last year. That is just wrong. Your tuna looks awesome!

    1. I can't imagine running extra miles before or after a race, at least not in this heat. I may run a half on one of my cutback weeks in September. I haven't decided.

    Yikes on another snake sighting. I am terrified to think about what's going on in that house, too. Great picture of the snake, though!!!

    I am not a fan of mayonnaise, either. Great idea to substitute ranch dressing!!! I have also substituted plain yogurt in the past. Tuna salad and deviled egg both sounds delicioso with ranch dressing!

    Kicking around in the pool would be heavenly after a long run in the heat. Ahhh!!!

    Praying to the weather gods that next week will behave itself with your 18-miler on the horizon!!!

  10. I actually LOVE mayo.The real deal, not the fake stuff.

    You must have abs of steel from the water skiing!

    If I had a pool, you can bet I'd be cooling off in it! Except it's barely been warm enough to swim outside most of the summer!

    1. As a kid, I had a cousin that would eat a jar of mayo by itself. No can do. Bahahaha, no abs of steel. Some pretty darn good back and shoulder muscles though. I can't imagine it NOT being warm enough to swim. Our pool water is 90, which means the air temp is much higher. Truly, it's like bath water.

  11. You think you've got it down, and then the rug slides right out from under you. I was probably tired from the day before, but also I couldn't find the air -- only moisture. Just a few more weeks and that dew point will come down. I CAN'T WAIT! Try ranch. It's good.

  12. Long runs in intense humidity are like torture. Glad you were able to switch things up and get your pace run in on a cool morning. I love mayo and, luckily for me, vegan mayo is one of the few things that taste like the real thing.

    1. They are like torture. I could just feel the heat rising off the payment Sunday. I grew up in a family that ate tomato & mayo or pineapple & mayo sandwiches. I just never acquired a taste for it. I think it's the smell actually.

    1. With the snakes, you would think I live in a rural area. I don't! Yeah, that much water skiing the day before a long run in the heat...not the smartest idea in the world. LOL. I hope you will continue to link with us.

  14. Yuck! I would be freaking out seeing snakes along my run! I am not a big fan of mayainaise. I never knew that you could substitute ranch dressing. I heard of Greek plain nonfat yogurt as well for a substitute.

    1. As long as they are not moving, I'm OK. This one was pretty still while I was taking his picture! LOL. I've heard of using plain yogurt, but I usually don't have that on hand. But, I always have ranch. Try it!

    I'm not anti-mayonnaise, but while making deviled eggs for Easter I realized that I was out of mayo so I substituted Ranch dressing. Those eggs were amazing!

  17. I'm so behind on blogging this week, but I am glad I went back and read this post. That's awesome you're doing a weekly wrap up link up.
    A few years back I did one, and it was very successful, I only stopped because of time issues. So I have a feeling you guys will have great success with this! Since I do a little recap on Mondays, I will be sure to link up in the coming weeks!
    2 hours skiing, omg you are amazing!!!! Maybe if I had a boat it would be different, but when I do go with my friends, I am totally fine if I can stay up a few minutes, LOL
    Although I did try Paddle Boarding out and went out for 2 hours and seriously loved it this past weekend, I think I could do it all day if I had my own. (well with breaks of course too:)

    1. Please do link with us when you can! Most people like to do a weekly recap and we jumped in to fill a recent vacancy. Paddle Boarding is something I want to try! It's got to be great for your balance and core muscles. And, since it's on the water -- I know I would love it. I see it at the beach, which looks really tough in the waves. I think I'd prefer the lake.
