Coffee Talk (September)

It's Saturday morning.  Let's settle in, sip on a mug of coffee (with pumpkin spice creamer) and chat!

Over Coffee...

I'd tell you how we are big college football fans.  {Roll Tide Roll}  It's finally GAME DAY.  Although it is peacefully quiet right now, the noise level will be deafening at our house later this evening.  That's OK.  I'm used to all the Recliner Coaching.

I would ask you to share your favorite easy game day recipe with me too.  A few of our standbys are Sausage Balls, Hot Spinach and Cheese Dip, Redneck Caviar, Wings, and Veggie Tray -- simply for it's counteracting properties to the aforementioned artery clogging foods.  So many temptations, so few weeks.

Over Coffee...

I would be happy to just sit and listen to all of you talk because...I'm tired.  I've always been a poor sleeper.  It is hereditary.  But, I was really hoping that marathon training would just knock me right out every night.  No such luck.  It seems the more tired I am, the more restless I am.  That has always been evident on Sunday nights after my long run.  It's pretty disturbing when I wake up and Fitbit reports that I was restless 34 times.  Yikes.  The one thing that gets me back to sleep quicker than anything else is the King game Alpha Betty.  Does anyone else play that?

What's up HoHo?
Over Coffee...

I'd tell you about my bunny friend.  Several of our neighborhood streets dead end at the edge of the woods where I'm required to U-turn on my runs.  A rabbit greets me most mornings right at dawn in one particular location.  I almost got his picture the other day but it was too dark and he hopped away while I fiddled with my phone.

Eventually I will get him...it's become a challenge.  It gives me something to look forward to on each loop.  Because, you know -- at this point I'll take any distraction I can get.  I've been running in this sweltering summer weather since APRIL.  I am so over it!

Back to the bunny.  I call him Bugs, even though he is brown, does not walk on two legs, doesn't say What's Up Doc and certainly doesn't have the swagger of the real Bugs.  That would be an impossible role to fill.

That's all folks!

  1. I actually sleep pretty good usually, but this week has been the pits. Between snoring & dog drama - let's just say I'm really, really tired.

We have a bunny in our backyard. My husband thinks it's fenced in, but I don't think so - because then the dogs would be chowing down on dog poop EVERY day, not just once in a while.

    1. My dogs wouldn't allow a bunny to live in the backyard. The poor thing wouldn't make it 10 minutes. My dogs think cat poop (found in my front yard) is a delicacy. Yuck! OMG. I hope you get more rest this week and Chester is better too.

  2. My sleep is pretty crappy, but it's from stress. For me, the only time I'm sound asleep is when my alarm goes off. :-) So cute about the bunny! Thanks for joining the coffee date!

    1. I don't set an alarm. There is no need. If I did, I'd worry about it all night and wouldn't sleep. It's always something.

  3. I look forward to having chili in the fall! My husband and I love it, my boys, not so much...

I'm a pretty good sleeper, but my husband's snoring is getting louder and wakes me up. Grrrr...

    1. Chili is a favorite! I make a Mexican variety that's pretty good, especially topped with shredded cheese and sour cream. YUM. If there is snoring, I jiggle the bed.

  5. I love football (or used to when I lived in the US). We don't get it here.... but when I am in the US during football season I always watch it. It brings back so many great childhood memories !

    1. After being married all these years, it definitely grew on me. We will sometimes go to a game and that is a very fun atmosphere, but you really can see so much more of it on TV.

  6. Our favorite game day food around here is Buffalo chicken dip. My sister makes a very spicy version of it but I of course like it mild! -M

  7. You are going to get a picture of Bugs ha it is funny how its the little things that keep us entertained on our long runs. I have to ask what is Redneck Caviar? I'm sure I've had it didn't know what it was called lol. I love college football way more than watching the Pros! I have to say I've been a Rebel fan for as long as I can remember, we can still be friends right? :)

    1. Redneck Caviar is easy and delicious. ! can each of Rotel Tomatoes, Blackeyed Peas (drained), Corn (drained) and about half a small bottle of Italian Dressing. It tastes better the longer it marinades. Serve with corn chips or tostados.

Well, since we met in Tuscaloosa...you've got to have a little Tide in you, eh?

  8. Hey! I'm coming from the linkup and I clicked on your post cause my husband is a HUGE Bama fan! Should be a fun game tonight! We are nachos and chips kind of people generally, but I have made a really good loaded sweet potato fries recipe that is sooo good too!

    1. As you and I know, football in the South is a religion. You can post that Gator cup...we can still be friends. LOL.

  10. I am the worst sleeper ever. Either I fall asleep and wake a million times or I can't fall asleep at all. I have 4 cats - no bunnies around my house.

    1. I fall asleep pretty fast but can't stay asleep. There's always a song in my head and that does not make for good sleep.

  11. I love football but I don't have a college team. Now that I am living in San Diego maybe I'll cheer on the Aztecs. Oh and as for sleeping...I relate completely. Working nights has me feeling like a zombie half the time. I need more sleep but just can't.

  13. I'm not a college football fan, I do like NFL though. So I eat junk food on Sundays. I loved chicken wings, but recently decided to be a vegetarian. So cheese dip rocks. Have a great weekend!!!

  14. I will say that I have experienced the poor sleep while training for endurance events. Restless sleep can be a sign of overtraining - be careful and check if you have any of the other symptoms. Hope you can get some rest!!

    1. Since I've never been a good sleeper, I don't think it's over training -- but I will certainly be careful with that!

  15. For football I'm all about guac and ultimate nachos. I'm a great sleeper but sometimes after really grueling workouts, which is all of them lately, I'm wired at night.

    1. Nachos is always a great choice. I made chicken nachos so much, my husband eventually said "when". I think it's been long enough now.

  16. From one insomniac to another, I have two words for you: Valerian root. Get the liquid kind. It works faster and lasts through the night for me. Melatonin doesn't work for me, and regular sleep aids make me too groggy the next day, but valerian root has been a Godsend.

    1. I'm definitely looking into that! Is it something I can buy locally at GNC or do I need to order online? I've tried Melatonin and sleep aids.

    1. I grew up on Bugs Bunny. He is just the coolest, although he is considered very un-PC these days. He also used to dress in drag a lot! My husband reminded me of that not long ago. LOL.
