5 Bloggers to Thank

So many wonderful people have reached out to me during my foot injury.  I could really write a book about the incredible support I've received so far.  Today I thought I would spotlight five awesome ladies, after all it is time for the Friday Five (HAPPY 2nd ANNIVERSARY!), and how they have helped me get through this.

So many have kept me from feeling like an occupant in this nutty car!

1)  Karen @ RunningOverTheHill has been so thoughtful.  She reached out to me outside the blog, sent me her phone number in case I needed support (and I did!) and in a I-won't-take-no-for-an-answer way, sent me her heart rate monitor to use in the pool.  She made sure to check on me over "that weekend" too.  Thank you Karen, you are one awesome lady.

2)  Marcia @ MarciasHealthySlice suggested I immediately start pool running.  She was gracious enough to chat with me back and forth about how to successfully do this, as this was something totally out of my comfort zone.  She also sent me a link to a Pool Running post she wrote while injured in 2010.  Marcia has been a wonderful wealth of been-there-done-that information.   Thank you Marcia, you've been very kind.

3)  Before I made my injury public, I decided I would replace my old mountain bike.  I reached out to Kelli @ DestinationAwesome for advice on purchasing a new bike.  Kelli took the time to first ask me some questions on how I intended to use the bike and then proceeded to detail certain bike components she thought were important for me.  She also suggested things for me to ask the sales reps.  Thank you Kelli, I appreciate the time you took to help me!

4)  I want to thank each and every person who has left me words of encouragement.  I can't tell you how much it helps!  I remember one particular blogger said just the right thing when I needed it.  On a day I was feeling particularly blue but trying to put on that happy face, Pam @ WeRunDisney said something that resonated with me.  Thank you Pam for telling me exactly what I needed to hear!

5)  Some local running friends who don't normally comment, sent me the sweetest emails and texts too.  And of course there is my buddy and Weekly Wrap cohort Tricia @ MissSippiPiddlin whose daily friendship, support, and encouragement I couldn't live without.  Thank you Tricia, you are the bomb!

I am still recovering and will continue to need support from this wonderful running tribe.  And by the way, if you are reading this I consider you a member!  My purpose here was not to exclude anyone (like I said - I could write a book) but more as a life lesson for me.  To remember to reach out to people!  Go the extra distance.  Just say something ...anything.  It matters.  And it helps, more than anyone can communicate back to you.

I'm linking up with the lovely ladies of the DC Trifecta.

  2. You have turned the corner and now should be able to focus towards new goals in the future. It is so difficult to be sidelined by an injury and to miss a really important race. You will come back stronger, but know that you have loads of support. Thanks for the mention, I really enjoy connecting with other runners, especially those close to my age....I think we "get" each other!

    1. I think being sidelined is one thing (been there done that) but having it occur just before a big goal race adds insult to injury. You've been a wonderful support. On this particular day you told me it was acceptable and encouraged to have a little pity party and I had been spending so much energy trying to fight it. LOL. It was such a relief to hear someone say it was OK!

  3. What a heart felt post! That is what amazes me about this great community, all competition aside we are here to support each other. I appreciate you too my friend, way more than I could ever communicate! It was just in the cards to meet up that day and our story began. I hope to make many more memories with you!

    1. Exactly. And, it take a tribe to support an injured runner. LOL. There will be many races in our future. We live too close (relatively speaking) for that not to happen! I've got February and March half marathon plans. We need to compare notes again.

  4. Other Bloggers and Runner's are very supportive and somehow say just what we need to hear and offer suggestions we might not have thought about. We are such a lucky group to have one another!

    1. Yes! Everyone is so supportive and encouraging. You don't always get that in your everyday life. My co-workers would never understand because running is not their thing.

  8. Ah, I loved this post! Not only is it awesome to dedicate a post of thanks, but I am continually delighted--but not surprised!--to hear stories of how awesome the running community is. I seriously have never encountered another group of random strangers who can be so kind and supportive.

    1. You know, sometimes I forget to say thanks. That is one thing I'm working on. (Oh, and thanks for the recommendation for the tights! I do like the seaming.) It's a wonderful diverse group of strong supportive women, isn't it? It blows me away.

  9. You are so sweet! Nothing will make me happier than to watch you cross that marathon finish line happy and healthy because you will. Kudos to you for making lemons out of lemonade and doing what you can to recover the best you possibly can. Always, always happy to help! xo

    1. Thanks Marcia. You've been both an inspiration and wonderful comic relief at times, which I adore! I plan to cross that finish line. And, I plan to shout it from the rooftops.

  10. You can't chat too much about running, can you? LOL. I'm so happy you healed and are on your way to running another half marathon. It always just takes time, which none of us what to spend. I'm glad you sent me the link on how to operate your watch. It's not hard, but that one-button thing is tricky at first. I would probably enjoy a day or two without my phone, but then....yikes.

  11. Aww, thank you. I am so happy I could be of assistance to you. I' have been there with running injuries and I have also been there as a road cycling newbie so I am happy to spread the knowledge around on things I have learned (sometimes the hard way). I hope you are loving your bicycle and you injury is healing in a speedy fashion. Have a great weekend!

    1. I am enjoying the Trek, even on those dark early morning rides. We just shine and blink our way down a dark rural road. I'm really starting to get comfortable on her. I think the next thing I need is going to be proper gloves.

    1. I hope that light starts to get brighter and brighter real soon. In the big picture, it's just a little blip. But at the time you actually go through these things, they seem monumental.
