Celebrating at Star House

Today's Tuesday on the Run topic is Post Race Celebrations.  The short and long answer of how I choose to celebrate is...a large coffee.  Iced in the summer.  Hot in the winter.  If I travel out of town (which I didn't do much this year but certainly have in the past) then food comes into play.  This post originally appeared this past Winter.  Here, I'm shamelessly re-posting because the story remains the same.

*********************************************************************************

It's no secret that I'm addicted to coffee.  I love to treat myself to a Starbucks after a race!  My go-to?  "I'll have a venti, White Chocolate Mocha, with half the syrup and no whip cream, please".  I'm currently campaigning to have it named The HoHo.  Or maybe just The Ho (since it's half the syrup).

My favorite post race food is scrambled eggs with cheese and a peanut butter waffle from good ol' Waffle House.  {But, no butter or syrup!  I don't do syrup.  I think it smells like urine.  Just keeping it real.}

You can find a WH in any town in the south, big or small.  However, in my humble opinion, their coffee is, um...well, nasty.  Sorry Waffle House.  I'm not fond of coffee that sits and burns in the pot.

If I could combine my two favorite treats, what heaven I would be in!

Do you prefer the name Waffle Bucks or Star House for my new franchise?

How do you celebrate after a race?

  1. My kid kept begging to go to Waffle House when we were in the south over Christmas. I've been to one, but it's been a really long time.

I definitely like "The Ho". Sounds like a coffee I'd enjoy...

    1. Oh man, you should have gone! It's definitely "an experience". I wish I had The Ho right now.

  2. Coffee is one of my favorite post-race treats, especially after cold races. Nothing tops a steaming mocha then. I tell myself it's the "chocolate milk" that the pros recommend. :) And the caffeine is nice since racing usually involves getting up SO early.

We don't have Waffle Houses here but I remember seeing them when I visiting the southeast. Not sure I have eaten at one thought!

    1. Exactly. My latte is made with milk - so great recovery drink, right? It's what I tell myself too.

  3. I may be mistaken but I think we have Waffle House here. I could totally go for a HO right now!

  5. I have never been to a waffle house but I would like to. Sadly there is no Ihop near me either and I try to jump on the chance to go there when I am close to one while traveling!

    1. Oddly, the WH is more about breakfast - eggs, bacon, sausage, hashbrowns, etc. than waffles. They don't have a big selection of waffles. HA. We have IHOP too.

  6. Oh man... I hate syrup too. Finally glad to see someone else who doesn't care for it

  7. Waffles sounds good. When I did the Eugene half, one of the sponsors was Krusteez and they had pancakes at the finish line.

    1. We have a pancake run and I look forward to that every year. But, still no syrup.

  8. I don't care for syrup either...its so...sticky!!! My favorite post race/long run food is good ole bacon and eggs. Nothin' better!

    1. It's so...stinky too. Ha. I love eggs and cheese after a long training run.

  9. haha now how am I ever going to enjoy syrup again?! My favorite post race meal is anything accompanied with a glass of. wine. Not immediately after the race, for that I'm good with whatever they give us at the finish line. Bananas. Chocolate milk. But once I've showered and the hungry really sets in, I love to sit down to a nice meal and wine. We are usually out of town so I rarely have to cook my own post race meal :) Have a great week HoHo!

    1. Ha. Sorry about that syrup thing. :) Wine is always good and relaxing. Or Margaritas...

  12. Ha I love Waffle House except seems like we only visit them late late at night or early mornings like 2am. After a horse event that ends late, well into the night WH was a staple as nothing else is open! I love their PB waffles and no syrup for me either, yuck nasty stuff and heaven forbid it gets on my hands!!! Post race Saturday was none other than Waffles except I added PB2 ! Yummy!

    1. Around here, you can always find one and they are always open! The PB waffles are sweet since they have the little chips on top. I can do honey, but not syrup. Hoping for great weather Saturday!

  13. oooh...Waffle House. We don't have them here, but when I've been down South, we've been there. For my kids...I'm not a big breakfast fan...

    1. There are certain breakfast items I don't like either (syrup, bacon). But I do like eggs. Waffle House is more of an "experience" than a restaurant. ;)

  14. Star house for sure! I am a big fan of breakfast food after a distance race! Even if it's at night! Thanks for linking up with us!

    1. We eat breakfast at night at least once a week at our house! Mexican cheese grits is a favorite on those nights.

  15. Waffle Bucks, I think! I'm not a big fan of WH and have only eaten there a couple of times on cross-country trips. When I was in college, we had a Perkins right across the street from the bar we always closed down, so that was our hangout. But I digress from the post-race treat topic...mmmm Perkins.

    1. Waffle House is definitely more of an "experience" than fine dining. I think they get quite a few bar patrons because it's the only thing open. The staff is always interesting.

    1. Well, that's what I tell myself anyway. I eat the eggs too, for protein.

  19. Wow - I don't think that I have one favorite post-race food. I guess it depends on whether or not I eat anything at the post-race tent (I usually don't because I'm not hungry immediately after the race), and what time I get home from the race.

    1. I usually am pretty hungry after a race, once I drink a bottle of water.

  20. I would order The Ho, just to say it, even though I don't like white chocolate LOL. Great name.

I also don't care for Waffle House. Gosh, I'm a mess.

Love beer and a cheeseburger after a race.

    1. I'm not sure there is a food I would refuse after a race. I love a good cheeseburger!

  21. Waffle Bucks has a nice ring to it really, I have never been to a Waffle House, we do have an IHOP here, but I confess to liking just an omelet best there, and I agree burnt coffee is BLECH! we have the worst coffee at work, I nearly never drink it.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I have a trick at work. Pour your coffee when it's fresh, even if you don't want it. You can heat it later in the microwave and it doesn't taste burned.

  22. I love PB on waffles. soooo much better than syrup!!

    1. Agreed! At Waffle House, they use PB chips that melt...very yummy.

  23. My favorite way to treat myself after a hard race is with a burger, fries and a coke. I normally eat that kind of food just a few times a year now, but it tastes so good after I have finished a race! Otherwise, a protein shake is my post long run fuel.

    1. A cheeseburger is one of my all-time favorite meals. I often eat one at lunch the day before a big race.

  24. Umm...I love WH coffee! Now any coffee that has been sitting in a pot for hours would be nasty. But I'll def take WH over Mcd's or even Starbucks!
After a race I like a margarita and pretty much any kind of food.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Maybe I've always caught the WH coffee at a bad time. Ha. I vote YES for post race margaritas!

  25. My hubs is not a coffee drinker but will drink a vanilla latte from Starbucks. You need to try it at least once. A Frappuccino in the summer is very refreshing!

  26. YUMMMMY! You know I have only ever ate at a Waffle House once in my life, I think it was in Atlanta GA, when I visited. I remember seeing them all over down south, so I figured they must be good, but ya it took me a while to actually go in and check it out. (We don't have them out west.) But they did have good waffles:)

    ReplyDelete

    1. Good is probably not the best description. Quick? Yes! Ha! And, go figure, they don't have that many different waffles!

  27. If it's a warm race, my go to is a brownie hot fudge sundae.

If it's cold, a decadent hot chocolate.

Obviously I like to make myself pancakes after races, too. I do like syrup, but I don't need the extra sugar, so I top mine with nut butter. And since I love nut butter, that works for me!

    1. The reason I like the waffle at WH is they sprinkle mini PB chips on top. That's all I need.

  30. I never think about getting a coffee after a race. Usually it's an adult beverage for post celebration.

    1. I think I got into the coffee habit because I will not drink it before a race. And it's usually still very early after the race (especially a 5k) and so I want a coffee more than anything. Adult beverage later.

  37. I'm obsessed with coffee AND with starbucks!!! I used to be a nonfat caramel macchiato girl, but now I'm a grande coconut milk latte addict!! Iced in the summer, hot in the winter. No frills, just amazing yumminess!!

  38. I need to hit up Waffle House after a race, that would be awesome! I NEED to try their PB Waffle! I can't believe I haven't before! Usually after triathlons I'm craving Chinese food or Zaxby's! After 5k's or 10k's I want a burger! So weird!
    And I like Star House!

  40. Big steak, nice glass of wine and a very indulgent dessert !
... however, for cold winter races I try to bring a big thermos of hot coffee.... because yes, it tastes so good after racing the cold !

    1. Hot coffee does hit the spot after a cold race. If by chance it is provided at the race, it goes so quickly! Later in the evening, I like Mexican food and Margaritas!

  41. I used to always get their raisin toast! I completely forgot about that. I've been so stuck on the PB waffle. I'll have to remember the next time I'm there.
