Whew! (WW # 21)

Welcome!  This linkup is hosted by yours truly and my good friend Tricia @ MissSippiPiddlin.  The purpose is to connect with and support other active women.  We want to hear about your adventures. You can summarize your whole week or just a small portion of it.  It's up to you!  Race recaps are also encouraged!   {See complete rules}

Don't forget to use this badge in your post.

Holy cow!  What a warm and stormy week in the south!  Add that to birthday and holiday celebrations and I'm afraid this week was less than stellar. After last weekend's training peak and Monday's alcohol injection to treat my foot neuroma, my first planned run was not until Wednesday.  However, it was storming and didn't happen.  I don't do lightning.  This was just as well as my foot was still sore and swollen from the injection.

Christmas Eve I was able to squeeze in 6 early miles between storms and before leaving on an all day trip.  Traveling in the car for over 400 miles, making several stops to visit family members and the intense lightning and never-ending sheets of rain made for a very long day.

After the wonderful and chaotic Christmas Day festivities at our house, we all went to see Star Wars that night.  I don't think I saw all of the newer movies, but it didn't seem to matter.  I picked the story right up.  I'm glad my kids didn't tell me any spoilers since they had already seen it once on opening night.

My teens received silly Wookiee shoes for Christmas.  Thanks to the brainchild of my sister, we sang and danced to "I want to put on...my my my my my Wookiee shoes" (a la KC and the Sunshine Band) repeatedly.  I've got to download this old 70s song to give me a pick-me-up during the marathon!

Saturday morning I ran 15 miles, struggling in the 75 degrees 100% humidity weather. My IT band began pulling at mile 13.  I found it oddly comforting something other than my foot was giving me problems!  I added walk breaks to get a little more time on my feet and called it a day at mile 15.  Two weeks from the Disney Marathon  -- It is what it is.

Sunday I rode on the new bike trainer I received for Christmas for 100 minutes.  I watched a DVR'd Christmas movie and the time went fairly quickly.  It's definitely hotter inside.  Next time, I'll get the floor fan out of storage.  Mojo sat up and stared at me the entire time, fighting the urge to nod off.  Weird dog.

Summary: In the chaos of a hectic stormy holiday week, I managed to run twice for 21 miles and ride on the bike trainer once for 100 minutes.  I guess I'm officially in taper mode...for a marathon I didn't conventionally train for.  Hmm....

And that's a wrap!

Were you able to get your workouts in this week?

    1. My teens love their Wookiee slippers. And their Star Wars socks!

  2. Just make sure you foam roll the hell out of those legs. Less time on the road=overuse injuries. Otherwise, I'd say you're ready!

    1. That's what I'm worried about, trust me. I'm addicted to my foam roller, so no worries there. It will travel with me. Hey -- I even did yoga today. What???

  3. I love hearing that you liked using your new trainer. I bought one for my husband but I can't tell if he plans on keeping it or not. I thought I heard him say he wanted one but I am not sure about that now. I'll take it! I love riding outside but sometimes where there's no time, or it's dark, it'd be great to just ride right here. I like the idea of riding while watching TV too! I don't think I have seen any of the Star Wars movies since the very first one. It seems I am definitely missing out! Have a wonderful week and Happy New Year!!

    1. I'm going to enjoy the trainer on cold, dark mornings for shorter rides. I would have enjoyed riding outside today, but was anxious to try it. The movie was a nice distraction (and thankfully the trainer is quiet). Otherwise, it would be boring -- like a treadmill.

  4. Mojo's cuteness allows him to get away with a lot of things! LOL. A cold front would be very nice. But if it's hot and humid for the race, it'll just feel like home on a summer morning. Right?

  5. Such a busy week but I hope you enjoyed your holiday! I still need to see Star Wars, I'm so relieved I haven't been spoiled yet! Good luck with your training!

    1. I did enjoy the holiday. It was nice to have a 4 day weekend and I was able to chill a little bit on Sunday.

  6. Whew indeed!

Glad you were able to get a couple workouts in. 100 min on the trainer-get it girl!!

IT issues....uugh. Maybe work on strengthening glutes and hamstrings. Good luck with that.

    Cuuute slippers!

I have heard such good things about Star Wars...I may actually go see it!

Have a great week and Happy New Year!

    1. I can usually keep my IT issues in check with a shorter stride. I think it's just because I was injured and off my feet for a while. You should see Star Wars!

  7. I did get all of my workouts done this week except for yoga today. I slept in which felt really good. And those slippers are awesome!!

    1. Every once in a blue moon, I sleep late on Saturdays. It always feels so good! I've actually done a few yoga routines this week, which is very out of character for me.

    1. My first half marathon was at Disney, so it is very fitting for my first marathon to be there too. I intend to enjoy it and not stress over the fact it is not how I planned it to be.

    1. Thanks. I wish I had a few more weeks, but I can't do anything about that now.

  10. Hope your foot will feel better. I had a long run this weekend of 17 miles and my knees started to stiffen at about miles 15... the walking definitely helps.
Traveling in weather like that is not fun. Hope the trip back was better !

    1. I almost expect some type of IT issue since I've been unable to spend enough time on my feet. The other stuff I did was great for cardio and stamina but nothing replaces running for the conditioning of those tendons and muscles.

  11. Maybe the rest is just what your body needs! Have you considered run/walk at all for the marathon? Just throwing it out there.

My workouts keep me sane & of course being Jewish makes it much easier.

    1. I absolutely have considered run/walking during the marathon and probably will. I did not practice it as I thought I needed to get as much running conditioning as I could. But that will only take me so far.

  12. Hopefully the taper will help your body get a little extra rest before the race. I definitely wouldn't be running in lightening either! Glad you were able to get in a couple of runs- I think you will have fun running the marathon even though you didn't "train" for it!

    1. I am very interested in how all of this will play out. If it works well, it's a crazy story. If not...I gave it everything I had.

  13. We saw Star Wars on Christmas too. It was a good movie for parents and kids, bridging the old and new. I can't believe your dog watched you the whole time! Mine will keep me company, but she sleeps.

    1. My other dog used to do the same thing when I ran on the treadmill. She would also try to jump on it with me. I have such nutty dogs. I haven't heard anyone say Star Wars was bad.

  14. Enjoy the taper! Sounds like it was time for a taper if you are having IT and foot issues, hope everything gets better in time for the marathon! Love the wookie slippers, those are awesome!

    1. The foot continues to improve since my injury in the fall. The IT is just due to the little amount of time I've had to run before this race. I hope since it bothered me this weekend, it's over itself now.

  15. Great milage for a busy week! I enjoyed the new Star Wars and those latest three movies don't matter. I love those Wookie slippers and that Mojo watched your workout haha -- Dogs are strange. Have a good taper!

  22. Wasn't it a crazy week with all the weather tornadoes, storms and rain. We only had rain until we were trying to get through Atlanta in the storms! Not fun at all right there. I'm so glad hubby can drive through all of it. Ha, I'll be singing the Boogies Shoes song all day in my head! I haven't seen Star Wars yet and I'm not really sure if I saw all of the previous ones either. Maybe I'd remember them??
I'm glad your foot wasn't bad for your 15 miles, funny how you had comfort in another pain rather than your foot. I was a nervous wreck climbing and hiking around the mountain. All I could think about was falling and not being able to run because of a stupid non-running related accident. I've got one more adventure weekend to get through lol then...... we're Disney bound, my friend! I'm so freaking excited!!! :)

    1. I don't think you need to have seen all of the movies to enjoy the new one. At this point, I'm actually not too worried about my foot -- it's all those other body parts that aren't accustomed to running.

  23. Those are adorable slippers. :) I'm glad you got through 15 miles without any foot trouble. Your unconventional training for the marathon will carry you through, I'm sure. Just be careful on your taper! Happy New Year!

  24. I hate traveling in bad weather too, my husband's driving is bad enough.......Sounds like a fun Christmas anyway. I can't believe after all this time off you just get out there and run 15 miles, you are a warrior! I so excited about you all coming to Florida, can't wait!!!!

  26. I'm here, I'm here! Better to join the linkup late than never, right? Sounds like you had awful weather to deal with over Christmas Eve and Christmas. Glad ya'll stayed safe. Those Wookiee slippers are so cute. I saw the original Star Wars movie in the 70's and hated it so much that I haven't had the desire to see any of the other ones. I did enjoy Space Balls, though. :-)

I got all three of my planned lifting sessions in last week, but only one run; however, I only ran once because I wanted to let my back settle down a little and hopefully make my sciatic nerve pain in my leg go away.

    Thanks for the linkup!

    1. You can always link until Wednesday and I appreciate that you did. I hope your sciatic pain is better. With the holidays and working being so busy at year end, I'm really behind on reading blogs!

  27. I'm impressed that you got all of the running in even with your neuroma! I've heard of cortisone injections for it, but not alcohol...interesting! As for Star Wars, OMG we are obsessed with it over here! Love the wookie slippers! I don't think you need to see the newer movies to get the movie. I have never seen them and refuse to...I prefer the original ones!!

  30. I've been slacking with my blogging lately. I've missed the Weekly Wrap the past few weeks, but I couldn't stay gone any longer. I love linking up with y'all. Those slippers are so cute! You've got that Boogy Shoes song stuck in my head now. Great job getting your 15 miler done in that humidity! I ran four that morning and it was so muggy! I can't believe your marathon is just two weeks away! You're going to do great!

  31. Whew that was a lot of driving on Christmas Eve, even more so with the bad weather! It's always nice when you can sneak in a workout before a day like that. I hope the IT Band is feeling better now. Although I know what you're talking about with just being happy it's something else hurting for once.

Love the adaptation of KC and the Sunshine Band - I will always think of that now when I hear Boogie Shoes.
