Runfessions (February)

I'm linking up with Marcia today from Marcia's Healthy Slice
Please stop by and join in with your Runfessions!

I runfess...

I wish I was in shape for a half marathon PR.  When I line up at Sunday's Rock N' Roll New Orleans, with beautiful weather and a flat course -- it's not going to happen.  This is one of those times I will focus on my love of running, the weekend fun, and not on a time goal.  Do you know 315 days have passed since my last half?  I know!  What was I doing?  Oh yeah...I was insured for wwaaayyyy too long.

I runfess...

I have NEVER given away any of my running shoes, until just recently.  I considered them memories and simply couldn't do it.  You can tell how old they are by their relative whiteness, although I think white is coming back.   A few days ago, I decided to take a picture to preserve the memory and I let these five pair go.  Don't ask me how many I kept.  {Baby steps people.}  There are stories attached to these shoes.  Some good, some not.  Now I wish I'd saved those awesome yellow shoe strings to match my neon yellow minion pants.  Oh, man!

One possibility, based on Mardi Gras colors.  Meh.
I runfess...

Speaking of shoes and half marathons, I often get tripped up (pun intended) on what to wear.  The problem is my brightly colored properly-broken-in shoes never seem to match what I want to wear.  {See there?  I should have kept those old white shoes!}  So, I'm forced to choose something based on my current shoe color.  I've got several options for this weekend's race that I'm not particularly thrilled with. But hey, they do coordinate with my shoes.  Am I the only weirdo? Does anyone else do this?  Perhaps you are lucky enough to be able to ignore your shoe color?  EEK.

Got anything to get off your chest?

  1. I ignore the shoe color. Although I cringed when I had bright orange shoes. SO much clashing. RnRNOLA is on my bucket list yet I never seem to make it down there. Have a freaking blast and thanks for linking up!

  2. I think the outfit is cute! My marathon partner is very matchy matchy and always wants her shoes to match everything. I never bothered with matching my shoes but sometimes I do now :) Hope you have a great race! it's been a while since my last half too. Yikes. -C

    1. I try to always wear my best pairs in a race. But, I've been known to cave and wear an old pair just for the color.

  3. I don't think your shoe color will matter. That outfit will look awesome either way! Hey where do you giveaway your old shoes? I have heard about doing this but I am confused about who would want sweaty, disgusting old sneakers? Or do they recycle them?

    1. I think they have a collection box at Dick's Sporting Goods (so my husband said after I gave these to Goodwill). I've also seen races collect old shoes.

  4. I can relate. I'm trying to find a pair of tri shoes that match my kit. Although having comfy non-blister inducing shoes (like the perfectly good ones I already own) should really be priority one. All about style, right?

    1. There are just some colors that clash. But, comfort is key. That's why currently I match the clothes TO the shoes.

  5. lol... I totally ignore shoe color too. I'm sure there have been many times I looked completely ridiculous in my running outfits! Though I like that green and purple outfit in the photo. It's cute. Also, I might have that same skirt :)

    1. I have still not worn that skirt! I didn't like the top and passed on that outfit.

  6. Funny enough most of my current running shoes are some variation of purple so I've been able to coordinate for the most part. I just started letting go of old shoes too - didn't think to take a photo. Have a blast at RnRNOLA - I so want to do that race one year!

    1. A lot of mine have been pink. But, I don't like pink THAT much and have been forced to wear it anyway. I think my next pair will be purple.

  7. I hope you have a great race! I need to make my way back to New Orleans for a run. I don't have a ton of running shoes, but I'm gradually growing my collection and getting rid of old pairs. Sometimes it's hard to say goodbye!

    1. I'm glad I was able to give a 5 pairs. Now, I can try a few more.

  8. I thought I was the only one who saved all of my running shoes - I can look at each pair and remember certain races, or where I was in my running ability!

I gave up on trying to match my shoes to my outfit when I ended up with a ridiculous pair of salmon-colored Hokas - gawd, they were ugly. So my matching ended with my socks - ha!

Have a great race - enjoy the weather!

    1. For some reason, I was scared I would forget something if I gave those away. I'm not sure what I was thinking. My favorite pair were "cantaloupe and red". Try matching that to pink and purple.

  9. I runfess I don't know of exactly what I'm wearing but we all have clean towels so that's something. I don't worry to much about matching shoes but if it works out that's awesome. Can't wait to see ya chick.

    1. You know, we can always crop our feet out of any photo too!

  10. I've never given away any of my running shoes. Not for any real reason though. However, I about flipped out when I saw my sister sold the shoes she wore for the Boston Marathon at a yard sale! Guess she's not that sentimental...lol

  11. You kill me. When I read your blog, I feel like I wrote it.

Yes, I have shoes that I can't part with.

And yes, I match my shoes of course. I have actually not bought shoes because I had nothing to go with them.

    1. My next color choices are purple, white and black. Hmmm... I have very little purple clothing. And white? Black might be a good summer shoe. They seem to get more worn and dirty than my winter ones.

    2. I just bought white and pink.

    3. I need a new pair. My current ones are getting old and I can't seem to wear the ones I fractured my foot in. They still have some miles left, but NO.

  12. i prefer when i can match, since i often stick to black clothes im just left with my socks and shoes matching ;)

    1. That's the best idea. Wear black clothing and let your shoes provide the color! And, maybe a funky headband. Or, arm sleeves.

  13. I say the flashier the better! So if you're shoes don't match no biggie! you're being a badass by running, why not be seen. :)

    1. I don't think being seen is one of MY problems. I'm addicted to color. Ha Ha.

  14. You always have the brightest, funnest running clothes. Hope you have a great time this weekend, and I find running for fun sometimes takes off the pressure and I have had some of my best races in that situation.

    1. Yes, bright. I can do that! It also boils down to good pockets.

  15. My shoes are pretty colorful all on their own...and don't match a lot of my other colorful duds. So, I just do the outfit and don't let the mis-matched shoes bother me (much). Besides, the shoes are probably the least noticeable accessory (because they're moving so fast!) ;-)

    1. That's why I never notice your shoes! You and I like our colors. I have friends who run in nothing but black or gray. They are missing out on the fun.

  16. I have that skirt, and so I'm hoping to channel you somehow--get you to have some speed! You just never know, right?

I never care about the shoe color. I buy my shoes on sale, and take whatever is available. I go for the model...

    1. I absolutely buy my shoes for a particular model and they are always brightly colored. Some colors I just have a hard time putting together. But, my shoe always wins out.

  17. Have fun in New Orleans!! Rock it with no pressure!

I am looking at my pile of shoes and I need to send them off too.

I usually match the outfit and not the shoes.

    1. I figure if I wear every color at once, it will work! Donating the shoes will make you feel better.

  18. I do like to coordinate if I can, but I'll go with the proper shoes even if they don't coordinate. It's just way more important. And I do donate old shoes . . . I have a whole pile to go. Sometimes I use them to walk Lola, too. Right now it's a pair of Brooks Glycerins I didn't like running in. . .

    1. I like to walk in some of my older ones too. However, I will not wear the two pairs I trained in for Chicago. There's too much bad juju in them.

  19. I do love the purple dotted skirt! I don't worry much about coordinating my shoes so much as wearing the right shoes to keep my feet and legs happy. It would be nice if they all went together though. :) Have fun this weekend!

    1. The shoes are very important! I could wear the same outfit over and over! Not.

  20. I like to match my shoes with outfits too, but since I can only wear one style of shoe, they never seem to be the right color. I hope your race went well and more than anything you enjoyed being in the race atmosphere with friends. I am not going to be in PR shape for my half in a few weeks and it is not the easiest thing to deal with.

  21. What our running shoes are supposed to match our running outfit???? To much pressure! LOL! Have fun!

  22. Yes, I went a very long time between half marathons! I ended up not feeling that outfit and went with something else. Bloated!
