Coffee Talk (April)

Welcome to Coffee Talk!

It's Saturday morning and time to settle in and chat for a while.
My creamer of choice today is Amaretto.

Over Coffee...

Actually, if it's early Saturday morning I'd tell you I'm not at home.  I'm running half marathon #39 and coffee will definitely be my post race treat, as always. We'll be chatting after the race.  I hope I get to tell you I had a strong race and that I was pleased with my finish time.  Fingers crossed.

Why didn't I purchase all four theme park mugs?
Over Coffee...

I'd tell you I'm looking at running my 2nd marathon.  Before even finishing the Disney Marathon, I knew it was not a one and done.  I can't seem to nail down when and where.  I crazily sort of enjoyed my swampy summer training last year, before the epic foot fracture.  But, I'm still thinking on it. I'd appreciate any suggestions for what you think would be a fantastic experience.

Over Coffee...

I'd tell you our youngest son turned 16 this week.  It is so hard to believe how quickly time goes by now.  The last teenage son to drive.  Eek!  I'm afraid this one will cause a few more sleepless nights than the others.

Over Coffee...

I'd admit that the time spent planking seems like an eternity.  Never has timed moved so slowly.  I try to increase my time by 10 seconds on each attempt.  I can't always get the increase and I surely don't attempt a plank every day.  Honestly, this 2 1/2 minutes might has well been 2 1/2 hours.  For those of you doing 5 minutes planks (or even more) --  I bow to you!

Over Coffee...

I'd tell you our middle son graduates high school next month.  Have I ordered senior pictures?  Have I addressed and mailed invitations?  Have I spent one second planning a dinner, party, backyard BBQ or other celebratory event?  No, to all.  I have a newfound respect for my sweet MIL who always does things at the last minute.  And yes, they always get done!  I thinks she's on to something.

What would you tell me over coffee?

  1. So your boys are the same ages as mine? I didn't realize that! My oldest graduated in December. I don't share much about him on the blog but I don't think he's going to go to the ceremony in May. I'll have to live vicariously through you. I'm just glad he finished.

    Good luck today!

    1. Yes, my youngest two are the same age as yours. It's time to pass this on to college. It feel different at my house, for sure.

  2. I hope you have an awesome half today! And obviously, I have no advice on marathons. Why not go for one of the biggies? But I am so not with you in training in the heat. I'll take winter training any day -- like tomorrow. I mean, I'd really rather be enjoying some spring weather tomorrow, but since it ain't happening, I'll take the cold over heat any day.

But the wind -- enough already!

    1. Running in the heat last year, I thought if I had to do it -- I might as well train for something big. And then that didn't happen. The wind simply irritates me.

  3. My son turns 16 in a few weeks and I feel less comfortable with him driving than I did with my daughter. Maybe it's bc he's a boy or my youngest? Another half marathon today you go girl! Thanks for linking up today!

    1. I feel like my youngest didn't get as much experience and practice as he needed. That makes me nervous.

  4. I hope you half marathon went Great!! Did you Disney this year? I was there too :-) It was my 3rd Disney Marathon, I love that race! If you are looking for another great Marathon to run, the Marine Corps Marathons is an incredible experience!! My husband and I did it a few years ago and it was so inspiring, I hope to do it again some day. Have a wonderful month, look forward to meeting again in May :-)

    1. Yes, I ran the Disney Marathon. I had run two of their half marathons but that was my first full. It was truly a wonderful experience.

  5. My stepsons are 27 and 29 - grown and on their won.

I have a hard time planking for one minute but I don't do it very often.

I hope you have a great race today.

I would love for you to do NYC but you didn't apply in the lottery so I'd say a biggie unless you plan to run many of them.

    Me, probably never!!

    1. Planks are so hard! I actually looked at applying for NYC this year. But after reading the odds of getting in, I figured I had a slim chance and didn't do it.

  6. Oh, yeah, if you want to make time slow down - plank! Looking forward to your race recap!

    1. Yes, planks will do that. I'm shocked every time I glance at the timer!

  7. My daughter graduates from the Community College in May as well. I really have no idea how that happened! Then it's a couple more years for her at the Senior College branch here. Thankfully she is here!!
You'll decide on a marathon to do. I'm thinking more and more about another one too, just don't know when I want to try and train for one, like time of year ya know. Congratulations on your race today too! :)

    1. You are lucky to still have your daughter around. Our house is definitely going to feel different, but I guess we'll adjust.

  8. No high school graduations yet in this home.. one more year ! And kids in France don't drive until they are 18, so I am not worrying about that either.
Hope you had a great race !
I am not sure if you saw but I got into the NYC marathon in November. I haven't even done my first and I am signed up for a second. Yikes !

    1. It's probably wise to have kids drive at 18 instead of 16. Even though I admit I enjoy not having to cart them around. I saw where you got into NYC. That is so exciting! Bucket List.

    1. Yes, here we are almost a week later and I still haven't done anything. I work better under pressure? (That's my story and I'm sticking to it.)

  10. Our son (the middle child) graduated last year...and I procrastinated EVERYTHING. Maybe it was a denial thing (?) I didn't order his senior pics until sometime in the spring (March?), and instead of making his announcements I wound up just ordering them from our photographer (with a rush charge) because I just couldn't find the time to sit down and do it myself (and I'm the art geek in the house). I always said the marathon (if I ever did one) would be a "Once and done" thing, too....but I knew as soon as I crossed the start line that I'd be back (and I just registered for another last week!)...that'll have 4 marathons and two ultras on my resume' (#whodathunk).

    1. Yeah, you are probably right about the denial thing. My problem is I'd like to repeat Disney in January but want to do one this year too -- around August/September. I can't make it work out like I want.

  12. I hope you had a great race!! I'll be signing up for my first marathon - Philly, and people really seem to love it. Hopefully your youngest won't cause too much trouble behind the wheel! Oh, and I really need to get my planking back...I can barely tolerate a minute anymore, so kudos to you!

I feel like everything I do gets done at the last minute. :) You'll get it done.
