I appreciate the ability to take every stride
I appreciate I'll never run again without pride
I appreciate the simple ability to move
I appreciate the challenge to get back my groove
I appreciate my return from injury at length
I appreciate my health, my body, it's strength
I appreciate the motivation, encouragement, the tears
I appreciate the friendships I hope last for years
I appreciate the endorphins, the balance, well-being
I appreciate each run...and it's powerful feeling

Ok, the tears? Seriously? I can't say as I ever appreciate the tears. I hate to cry; I always feel worse afterwards.
ReplyDeleteThe rest, yes -- and I wish I had your way with words!
Tears of Joy, Judy! I cried (like usual) during the last mile of my recent half marathon just because I LOVE it so much. Happy Tears are the best!
DeleteAnother wonderful poem that I can definitely relate to! I think all runners should think about how much of a blessing it is that they can do what they do, no matter the pace. It's all about appreciation!
ReplyDeleteYou don't know what's missing until it's taken away. After this last injury, I don't ever want to take it for granted again.
DeleteI don't like the tears, but almost every race I've ever run I've been moved to tears at some point by just the incredible displays of kindness between runners or the fact that I really am capable of doing these crazy things.
ReplyDeleteExactly! The knowledge I am capable of doing this crazy thing gets to me. So, I might as well appreciate the tears too.
DeleteThis is clever and so true!
ReplyDeleteThanks. Those injuries certainly help us appreciate it.
DeleteAppreciation is always a great practice! Thank you for this!
ReplyDeleteYes, it truly is. Sometimes you don't realize it, until it's taken away.
ReplyDeleteLoved this! You may have wrote it, but it rings so true to my own life right now.
ReplyDeleteYour so creative and talented. You should consider adding a tab on your blog with links to all these awesome poems you've created.
I'm afraid I'd be sued by the people who own the rights to Dr Suess! PS. It's easy to rhyme because songs are playing in my head 24/7. Same thing.
DeleteI always like your poems! And I really like your positive attitude :)
ReplyDeleteAs I get older, I realize this may not last forever. I need to appreciate it now.
DeleteRight there with you! I appreciate it ALL.
ReplyDeleteWe can be smart (or not!) with our training and sometimes we have to step back anyway. It's frustrating when that happens.
DeleteGreat stuff! Appreciation is so very important!
ReplyDeleteMy alternate word was valued. Right now the ability to run is almost invaluable.
DeleteI appreciate our creative, blogosphere poet! So fun! Thanks for linking up!
ReplyDeleteAw, shucks. I've got to stop Seussing it up. My Mother must have read Green Eggs and Ham to me one too many times.
DeleteI appreciate your friendship! Funny how injury changes our perspective of the things we once thought so hard and complained about. Then something hurts or you can't run an We'd gladly do what we were complaining about. Very appropriate word today :)
ReplyDeleteRight back at you! I need to always remember what it feels like to be injured and unable to do what you enjoy most.
DeleteGreat word!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate the running community and the friendships for sure.

It's an incredibly supportive group of women, for sure!
DeleteYou'll be joining me soon! I just know it. And we'll celebrate!
