Five Runfessions (May)

I'm linking up with the lovely Marcia today from Marcia's Healthy Slice
Please stop by and join in with your own Runfessions!

I Runfess...

Knowing I will cycle just inches away from someone else in an upcoming duathon is freaking me out.  What if I get tangled up?   What if I fall?  Then I think...who am I kidding?  I'm going to be sooooo in the back of that pack anyway.  No worries.  I also hope I don't embarrass myself by doing anything Newbie Stupid at the race.

I Runfess...

Speaking of cycling and being scared...  These are the woods I cut through to get to my longer route.  Let me just say I'm happy it's daylight in the early mornings right now.

I Runfess...

I refused to give it much press, but I dodged a bullet with a sore tendon in my "good" foot.  It became sore a few times after running a half (or two) -- like a sprain.   It hasn't hurt for a couple of weeks now so I think it has healed.  Whew!  My current item not getting much press is a groin pull. [#slippedinthemud  #alwayssomething  #oldagebites]

I Runfess...

We are very proud of our recent high school graduate.  He worked very hard to get what he wanted in college placement and scholarships.   I held it together really well at the events we attended last week...until...the graduates came into the audience at commencement to honor their Mothers with a rose.  Buckets.  I.Cried.Buckets.  It was a very special moment for the both of us.

I Runfess...

Was I insane in agreeing to train for my 2nd marathon in yet another Dixie Hell?  {Also known as summer for you Northern Folk.}  Humor me for a good month or so while I gripe about it.  I usually accept the inevitable once I realize the whining isn't helping.

What would you like to runfess?

I'm also linking up with the Friday Five where it's Free Friday.
Please hop over and check out what everyone is talking about!
Thank you to our gracious hosts:

  1. I'll be runfessing tomorrow, which no one will read because everyone will be enjoying their long weekend. Oh well.

I predict you won't be BOTP for your duothalon. No way in HE#% would I train for a marathon down south. Well, I'm just not doing one anyway because my older body loves to throw mysterious pains at me all the time. So good luck with that -- knowing you, you'll do fine. Is Tricia involved?

    1. I'll read your post! I did OK with training in the heat last summer--oh well, except for the fractured foot part. It just takes me a while to adjust mentally. Tricia isn't involved in this hair-brained scheme. I'm not sure she's decided to take another stab at the marathon.

  2. You won't be inches from other riders because that would be drafting and you'd be DQ'd. But who doesn't want Dairy Queen, especially in Dixie Hell?? :D You're going to rock that du!
    Thanks for linking up!

    1. In my mind, yards will feel like inches! Trust me, I won't be DQ'd. LOL. I haven't had a DQ treat in ages! My DIL tried to bring me a blizzard yesterday and I declined. What was I thinking?

  3. After training through one summer for my second half, no more. If I do fall races, they're shorter races so I can start training in September when I can convince myself autumn's coming.

    1. It's so difficult! I hope I am rewarded with a cool fall marathon for all my sweat and tears.

  4. Yes, biking scares me too. I am afraid of falling. And I am accident prone so I would.

    Good luck.

Another marathon? Not surprised at all.

I am toying with a hilly half in August - nor not?

    1. Yep--Chicago. I needed closure or redemption (or both). Hills in August? Yikes! You go girl!

  5. I totally get the graduation tears. It's a good thing, but dang, they grew up so fast!!!

    1. I'm very excited for him and would have been perfectly fine if it hadn't been for that rose presentation. That was a very sweet touch, though.

  6. I was so excited to hear you decided to enter a duathlon! I don't think you need to be too worried. Tri and Du races are not draft legal so there should always be a decent separation between you and the other cyclists. However, sometimes people behave unpredictably, so just pay attention and announce your intent (passing on your left, etc.) so you don't take anyone by surprise. Hopefully the roads are in good condition and not a lot of holes or rough road. Good luck!

    1. I think what seems like separation to most, won't to me. If you are within my 20 foot bubble, it will be too close! LOL. I'm not sure I'll be passing many people. I do need to pay attention to those passing me. I think the roads are good. One less thing to fret over!

  7. Biking around others would make me nervous too, but I bet you'll do great! Congrats to you son on graduating! Graduations always make me cry - such an accomplishment!

    1. I think I fear the unknown more than anything. It's just something I've never done and have no clue what to expect. Once I'm there, I should be fine -- like most other times I get scared over nothing.

  8. Aw congratulations to your son! What a proud momma you must be. I am not even a mom but I would have cried just witnessing the graduates presenting the roses!

    1. And, being toward the back of the alphabet only made it worse. We had plenty of time to get all emotional waiting on our turn. LOL.

  9. Happy to have daylight early as well. As I run through trails that are not well lit. Congratulations to your son!

    1. I could never cut through those woods when it's completely dark. I'd stick to my other route.

  10. I am liking the daylight hours myself! You are going to do just fine at this duo- event of yours! Us southern girls know how to sweat! It is ok :)

    1. I'm the queen of sweat MB. I actually enjoy the sweat part. If I could breathe better in humidity -- I'd have it made!

  11. Congrats to your son! I'm glad he's on his way!

I didn't Runfess that I'm sad my son has decided not to walk for graduation. He graduated in December because he was so done with high school. I get it and I support him. He's in such a better place now and is planning for his future. He's taking a different path. It's kind of bittersweet, but yet my heart is very proud of him for forging his own path.

    1. You should be very proud he graduated and has chosen a better path. My sons are very different but I'm equally proud of all of them. My last one doesn't enjoy school. Period. It doesn't mean he is any less capable -- but he wants to do things HIS way. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

  12. I have only done one du...and I LOVED it! I don't remember if it ever got linked with anything...it was in early August last year...check out my archives (in your free time). I also have a bit of an issue that has not gotten much press time (because I thought it would pass)...HA! (Don't we all have this happening at times?). My right heel, it's really being a "heel" at the moment. UGH.

    1. I'm going to look for your Du post! Sometimes, I think if I don't make too much of a certain pain or problem, it will go away. Unfortunately, that doesn't always work. I hope your heel gets better soon!

  13. You will do fine in your duathalon. I doubt you will be the only newbie either. I rode 10 Miles at the beach an it was freaking hard on my mountain bike. I so need a road bike.
We are pros at dealing with heat an summer running. It is a good thing it's daylight early for those runs too. I'm still throwing hints to Sneak in your suitcase for Chicago...

    1. I did a stupid Newbie Thing today. When I got off my bike to run, I forgot to take off my helmet. I realized it about 1/2 mile later. HA! Yeah, go to Chicago with me! Oh, I can DO HEAT, but I can't say I can do it very well!

  14. Congrats on your son! We proud mom's deserve our tears of joy! Glad your foot issue got better. I can barely manage a 10K in the summer ...

    1. I'm going to miss him terribly when he moves away to college. More tears, I'm afraid! I haven't mentally adjusted to the summer heat yet. And, I may not this year!
