Let's Get Physical

Let's get physical, physical
I wanna get physical
Let's get into physical
Let me hear your body talk, your body talk
Let me hear your body talk

Of course when I saw this week's Wednesday Word, the song began playing in my head...and hasn't stopped yet.  {Thank you Deb!}  It reminds me of headbands and leg warmers.  Yep, I wore those gems, complete with stirrup leotards and a cropped tee, and went to the lunchtime aerobics class at Elaine Powers (anybody? -- you gotta be oldish to remember this one).  I don't even remember sweating in class!  It must have been those super cool headbands.  Back then, we didn't take pictures of everything.  Thank goodness for small favors.

NOT ME!     Check out the jewelry!

I'm pretty certain nobody wants to hear my body talk, especially since I'm putting it through hell in this steamy summer marathon training cycle.   Some things it might be saying though...

It is still dark outside.  I want to stay in bed with Mini.

If you run one more mile, I'll make you puke.

Let's just fill those precious new shoes with a gallon of sweat.

Stink?  I'll show you stink!

I already said I was hungry.  What are you waiting on?

We are too damn old for this.

Not another hill!  Can we move?

Here's a random side stitch.  You're welcome.

Oh yes, we ARE taking the plunge today.

Where's the ice water?  No, give me coffee.  Where's the ice water?

All kidding aside, I am grateful my body allows me to do the outdoor physical activities that I so enjoy.  I realize some people are not as fortunate.  I try to remember to pay it back with plenty of rest and recovery, although I admit it isn't as easy as it should be.

I appreciate this...

And this...

And this!!!

What would your body have to say?

  1. Oh, I loved the aerobics years! In the late 80s - early 90s we had an aerobics studio in our town and a bunch of us were DEVOTED TO IT -- the tights, the outfits, ah, good memories. And yes, my running got a big boost once my Grammy's arthritis got so bad that she could no longer walk. It really made me see how fortunate I am.

    1. Those classes were really all we knew about getting physical back then. I remember I had to create and perform an Aerobics routine in college to get an A in that PE class. Bam! THAT I wish I had a picture of. LOL.

  3. Ha, this song is on my running play list! I still love it :) That's a great way to think about recovery, as re-paying our body for all that it does for us. I'm going to have to start thinking of it that way and maybe I'll be better at getting the foam rolling in.

    1. It is hard for me to take rest days. I just want to keep going and going. But, I know I should!

  4. Cute post! I can remember my mom going to aerobics class and doing those aerobic videos with her friends. My how physical activity for women has changed over the years!

    1. The first fitness studio I went to had these weird machines that rolled and jiggled different parts of your body. I'm pretty sure they had zero affect.

  5. But we thought we looked so good... It all started with Jane Fonda and her hydrants. LOL. Things have certainly changed. Do you remember when the fitness studios had machines that rolled and giggled your body parts? HA!!

  6. Remember the butt floss leotards they wore with those leg warmers? They were all the rage when I first joined a gym in my teens. Thankfully I never partook of that trend. I've definitely done my share of fire hydrants though.

    1. I do. One could argue they were the gym equivalent to the thong, yes? Jane still looks very fit and healthy. Maybe her hydrant is the key!

  7. That song went through my head too as I sat down to write my post. I never was a leg warmer kind of gal, tho!

    1. I absolutely had the leg warmers. If I remember correctly, my favorite pair had multi colored stripes.

  8. I love this so much! My body would also say, "Where's a bush? I need a bush to hide behind right now!"

    Thanks for linking up!

    1. Ha! Yes. I could hear a rushing stream during my last Tri and that certainly does not help matters.
