Five Runfessions (October)

As October comes to a close, it's time
for a monthly dose of runfessions.

Tell me.  Why are so many runfessions food related?

I runfess...

I make no secret of my love of frosted shortbread cookies.  {But not frosted sugar cookies -- too sweet!  In fact, the ones at Panera Bread are sickly sweet.  I digress...}  It's usually how I treat myself after a big race.  Here is the one I ate in Chicago just after the race.  I refused to go to the back to my hotel until I found it.  It was almost too cute to eat. Almost.  Speaking of food addictions, I adore almond nut butter.  Recently, I switched from my normal Maple to Vanilla.  Oh my.  Keep it under lock and key.

I runfess...

I have not been on my bike one time in October!  I didn't even realize this until I was checking my monthly mileage.  I thought cycling would be how I spent the first week or two after the marathon. With my busted knees -- it was the ONE thing I could not do.   There's a few days left in the month. Maybe I can go for a nice long ride on Sunday, when it's forecasted to be near 90 degrees again.  No lie.

I runfess...

I've been eating and drinking all things pumpkin since what seems like July.  I'm so over it.  I'm ready to move on to peppermint, cranberry, and gingerbread.   It's not that I want to start Christmas shopping, though.  Let's not discuss the stressful lack of weekends between now and Ho Ho Ho.  But along those lines, I saw this commercial LAST WEEK.  Last week!

I runfess...

A little DOMS after the marathon probably would have been a good thing for me.   You know, a few days of shin splints or cranky hips.  Maybe a little protesting from the old calves.  Something to force some extra rest.  But as the case was -- nada.  Zip.  With the exception of my crusty knees, I felt spectacular.  In fact, I got tired of resting and ran on the fifth day.

I runfess...

Which leads to my biggest confession of all...

This happened.  Another marathon.   It.Is.In.January.   I couldn't help myself.  No worries though, as soon as I hit that registration button, my left knee got all tight and achy.  Whew! All is right in the world.
.

Tell me, what do you need to runfess?

I'm linking up with the lovely Marcia today from Marcia's Healthy Slice.

  1. That cookie looks too pretty to eat...I'm glad you got a pic of it! I haven't even run my marathon...and am already dreaming about the next. Not yet registered, but Grandma's is on my radar ;-)

    1. I've heard a lot of great things about Grandma's. I haven't run Disney yet and am dreaming about another one in late spring too. It's pretty insane.

  2. Haha- I loveddd reading this. I love sugar cookies too. I am so so jealous you are running the Walt Disney Marathon. That is my dream! Every year there is a conflict with it. Love this post! Happy running!

    1. In our area, there are tons of great races at the same time as Disney. It's a hard decision, but my grown up kids still love going and that's usually the deciding factor.

  3. My bike gave me the evil eye this week--I haven't ridden it all month either. I'm running again! Oh wait, my bike...

    1. I get it. I've shamefully put Sanity in the storage room. I think I can hear her crying some days. LOL.

  4. I can't even tell you how long its been since I rode Blanche the trusty road bike. Well the Inquisitor could tell you...truth is she has a flat...I don't know how to fix. And I'm too lazy to take in. Plus if Delpfino's at the bike shop, I'll probably come out with a tri bike. See? I'm averting a whole crisis. Yay for skull cookies and DISNEY!

    1. I'd like to get some instruction on how to fix bike flats. But not necessarily at the bike shop. Yeah, the up-selling would be too much pressure for me.

  5. I'm not happy with Panera in general, but I do like their chocolate chip cookies. If only they hadn't made me mad.
Good luck training for Disney. I do miss going to WDW in January, but I'm looking at another Disneyland race for 2018. Just need to fight through registration to get it.

    1. We've been to Disney many times in January & February. It's our favorite time to visit. So why not run too? (That's my thinking anyway!) I love Panera's Autumn Squash soup.

  6. Yay for Disney!! I saw that commercial too and literally yelled "NO! Stop it!" - I hate when retailers try to rush the holidays!

    1. Last week was too early for holiday commercials! I think I've seen some Target ads too. We haven't even had Halloween yet. Jeez.

  7. I agree about those panera cookies, way to sweet! I'm not a pumpkin spice fan but I do love the December seasonal flavors with the gingerbread and peppermint. Yum! And that's cool you've signed up for the Disney Marathon :)

    1. My husband sweetly bought me a frosted cookie from Panera. I could not eat it. It was pure sugar. I love Gingerbread.

  8. I didn't know there was a difference in frosted cookies - but mostly that's because I'll choose chocolate chip or oatmeal raisin over frosted cookies 99% of the time. However, if I saw a cool sugar skull cookie, I'd have to get it. :)

    Yay for another marathon!!!

    1. Shortbread cookies aren't sweet...only the frosting. Sugar cookies are very sweet...plus the frosting too. See? Although I didn't have one as a child, I do now (thankfully) have a sugar limit! LOL.

  9. I have no problems resisting snickers, candy corn (Yuck) but cookies with skulls on them? NO way! While there is no way I can swing Disney this year, you do have me thinking about another marathon! Just what is all this dang talk about Grandma's marathon??? ;)

    1. It looks like quite a few people have signed up for Grandma's. They do limit registration, so you need to hurry if you are interested in that one. I'm thinking more along the lines of a REVEL marathon. Down.Hill.

  10. So exciting that you signed up for Disney. I love Disney a little too much although after Wine and Dine I plan to take a break from them to save my money. :) I have not touched my bike in a long time which is sad since its getting colder and colder up here in the midwest so I have a feeling I won't take it out again

    1. My family loves Disney a little too much as well. We use our accumulated Disney dollars when we visit -- it certainly helps! I need to ride while it's still warm. I do not like cycling in the cold, and especially when it's windy on top of that. Ugh.

  11. Oh my gosh, I do love shortbread cookies and iced ones are even better! I haven't ridden my road bike nearly as much as I would have liked. Wonder if I can get away with riding my January half that I signed up for while under the influence of several glasses of wine with little regard to my angry ankle...... what the hell was i thinking!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I wish that ankle of yours would stop giving you trouble! It's funny how our goals get a little loftier with a little wine. I'm sure you'll do great. You've got time to prepare.

  12. You definitely have a few problems. :) But then again, I'm not really surprised.

I have yet to have ANYTHING pumpkin -- can you believe that? And had no time to even bake with pumpkin. There's not going to be a whole lot of time coming up, either, and Thanksgiving is at my house.

It's a different kind of problem!

    1. Oh, I own my "crazy". LOL. My MIL still hosts Thanksgiving. I'm very lucky in that regard! I'm moving on to gingerbread. I plan to eat it hot out of the oven this weekend with honey pecan cream cheese in the middle.

  13. Hahaha! Glad I'm not the only one bad about signing up for races! My runfession....I have Ragnar next weekend (26 miles for me) and I haven't ran or done any form of cardio since my last triathlon. I'm suppose to be in time out and just enjoying a break...¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

    1. Ragnar!!! How fun. It's on the old bucket list. Your conditioning will carry you through. You'll do great! (For me, less is more usually anyway.)

  14. Yay! for Disney - I am excited for you! We shall definitely plan a meet up! Have a great weekend! and I am going to try that sugar cookie design on a giant rice crispy treat :) #noshame

    1. I've got to figure out who is going...grown kids and their schedules! Ugh. That would make an excellent design on a crispy treat! How clever.

  15. At my age, something should hurt. I was getting worried. LOL. I'm eyeing another half two weeks before PCB too! Are we nuts or something? A bike ride would give you some nice cardio and help those feet rest up for the big day!

  16. That's awesome that you're signed up for your next marathon! I'm a little nervous about how my body will feel after running the Philly Marathon in a few weeks. That's awesome that you recovered so quickly!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think you'll be surprise at how well you will feel, especially after a day or two. You do a lot of crosstraining which will help with that!

  17. Haha couldn't help yourself... it's a sickness we have, I swear!! But that is AMAZING you weren't sore or had any DOMS. That's a sign of a damn good training cycle.

I loooooooove that cookie. I need those in my life.

    1. I was very surprised by the lack of soreness or DOMS. But my negative side thought "then, you didn't push hard enough!!" LOL.

  18. You signed up for the Walt Disney World Marathon recently? Usually that is sold out so quickly. That's awesome! I am not over pumpkin flavor yet. I still love the creamer and I just made pumpkin pudding the other day....yum!

    1. The marathon didn't sell out quickly last year, so this year I decided to wait until after Chicago. Thankfully, it was still available.

  19. Ah I'm so jealous that you signed up for a Disney race! I couldn't believe how long it's stayed open and have been contemplating it .... just have not pulled the trigger. I want to do Dopey in 2018. Whole new levels of insanity! I can't wait to hear how it goes for you. Seriously badass :)

    1. The lure of Dopey is pretty strong too. I'm not getting any younger either. Maybe next year?

  22. Awesome on the WDW Marathon! It is so cool running through the parks but I HATE the early wakeup call.

    1. I love the early start because it means an early finish and you have plenty of time to go to the parks afterwards! I don't sleep much before a race anyway.

  23. I like sugar cookies and shortbread cookies, but don't like frosted cookies - but that one is so cute! I think it's awesome that you didn't have DOMS -- it shows what good shape you were in!

    1. Shortbread is just so good! My sister and I used to make huge batches of Snickerdoodles as kids. But, we'd leave out the nutmeg and cinnamon so they ended up being more like shortbread or sugar cookies.

  24. Wow- another marathon! I'm excited for that! I LOVE the Justin's Almond butter too!

I love how the sugar skull cookies look, but I haven't tried them yet. Maybe today.
