Happy Valentine's Day!
*******************************************************

This was another week of cycling for me as I continue to rehab a couple of issues with my feet.  Trust me, I'm ready to get back to a regular running routine.  I miss my peaceful, pre-dawn runs and those glorious sunrises.  I have a checkup with my podiatrist soon and hope to be back on the road -- on my feet -- shortly thereafter.  With a few spring half marathons on the calendar, time's a-wasting!  The number one priority, however, is to get healthy.  If I have to cycle exclusively for another week or two, I will.

Trainer rides make for boring pictures.

Don't get me wrong.  I enjoy cycling.  I love my bike.  I am working toward a Century or Metric Century ride hopefully this spring.  I trust this long mileage training is setting me up for success at a few sprint triathlons over the summer.  After all, I have to be strong in the ride and the run to compensate for my pitifully lacking, dog-paddling swimming technique.

Just a random sunset on my way home from work.
This week was...busy and long to say the least.  After digging in at work, I do feel like I can finally see a dim light at the end of the tunnel.  We were planning to go snow skiing in North Carolina this weekend, but the weather there decided to warm up and the slope conditions were not worth it.  Plus, our still-at-home-kid had the flu and we couldn't have gone anyway.  Maybe a late season trip to Colorado is in order?  Ahhh...dreaming

Bike selfies...always a challenge.

On a positive note, I was happy to get five rides in for a total of 101 miles 111 miles (updated) {BOOM}  I also remembered to do my hip/glute strengthening exercises.   {BOOM-BOOM}  As a special treat, I was able to do my long ride at Callaway Gardens again on Sunday.  PoPo decided to play golf there (there may have been some shameless arm twisting on my part) and I tagged along with my bike.  I rode 50 miles 60 miles (updated) while he played.  It was shorts-and-tank weather.  A.gorgeous.day!  (As this goes live, I haven't had time to upload any pictures as we stopped and ate supper with our college son on the way home.  I hope I didn't smell too bad...)

UPDATE:  I cycled 60 miles!  Whew!

Weekly Recap:

3 Indoor Trainer  = 35.0
2 Outdoor Rides = 76.0

Total Cycling Miles = 111

Hip/Glute Strength Sessions = 2

And that's a wrap!

Tell me something positive about your week!

How will you celebrate President's Day?

  2. I will celebrate President's Day by working! And, the daughter gets to have a snow (actually, ICE) make-up day at school. But, this past week had continuous sunshine and beautiful temps, so life if GREAT!! I love that pink top...would it fit me? (asking for a friend...)

    1. That pink shirt is one that shows a message when you get sweaty. So after my ride, the back said RUN WITH HEART. It was a gift from my sister. Of course it would fit you!

Sounds like a good time was had by all at the gardens today.

  8. 100 miles in one week, that's grea! It's certainly setting you up for a 100 mile race. I almost got my bike out this week, maybe next weekend when the weather is supposed to be warmer...

I hope you get good news from your podiatrist.

    1. I'm not sure I'll do a Century Ride. I can see now how long it will take. Instead I'm leaning toward a Metric Century Ride which is about 62 miles. I can do that!

  9. Wow, that's a #HollottaMiles! Congrats on getting all those bike miles in. Sorry your ski trip didn't turn out. I haven't been skiing in so long. I use to go as a kid but don't think I would enjoy it anymore as an adult!

  16. Great week of bike riding! Good thing you like bike riding. I find it kind of boring for some reason, maybe if I had someone to bike with! and these roads aren't very conducive to riding a bike. I don't think I have been on my bike in almost two years. My husband is threatening to throw it out. I would just rather run! Hope you get good news on your foot thing soon!

  19. It's always a bummer when you can't run but it's awesome that you love cycling. I got into spinning when I had an injury a few years ago, and from there became a spin instructor. I love that it's an option when you can't run! And for you, it's clearly a whole separate sport to pursue. I never got into outdoor cycling but I love your goals!

    1. After cycling so much during an injury in the fall of 2015, doing four triathlons last summer seemed like a good thing to do. I wasn't good at it, but they were enjoyable and challenging!

      Delete
  20. Yes, the number one priority definitely is to get healthy. I struggle with that one too - when I was injured over the summer, all I wanted was to get back to running! And I'm starting to see similar symptoms now that I had then so I'm thinking I need to pull back and get back to some basics!
This last week was rough - but as I was typing up my recap, I actually had a really strong week of training, I just didn't want to do any of it! I'm feeling better about this week already though. As for President's day, I'm at work - but at least we're banking holiday time for Spring Break!

    1. It's not always easy to take a break, but the quicker you can address any issues you have -- the better off you'll be. That's what I keep telling myself anyway. LOL

  21. Solid week of cycling! I can't believe you were going to be in NC this weekend! I'm not there now, but I heard it has been very warm! I think your priority to stay healthy first and foremost is very important. You have done so many halfs, your body will remember :)

    1. As southerners we've skied many times at Beech Mountain (a few times at Sugar Mountain, Hawks Nest, and also Gatlinburg, TN). Of course, most of the snow is manmade -- but you do what you got to. LOL.

  22. I'm on the injury train with you and am so tired of cross training! I just want to run. I've been doing some indoor cycling on the stationary bike at the gym, lots of arc trainer-ing, and BodyPump and yoga classes. But the weather here is just too pretty to not run. I'm glad you have cycling for the times you can't run though. It's really important to have other forms of activity to turn to during injuries, and it will help you be stronger for tri season and for when you can run again.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I am extremely fortunate to like my "alternate" form of activity. So much so, that I was able to pursue the sprint tri distance last year and hopefully a Metric Century ride this year. But, I hope with both disembark very soon!!

  25. Great way to get in the miles on the bike this week! I do hope your body heals up soon so you can get in the type of running you want. and I also hope you can sneak in that ski trip!

    ReplyDelete

    1. I'd love to sneak in a ski trip. Going out to CO is a huge/expensive vacation for us southerners. It would have so been much easier to sneak up to NC. Maybe they'll get a late shot of cold weather.

  26. I hope your feet heal quickly so you can get back on the running trail soon. You are smart, though, to give them time to recover. It's awesome that you love biking so much and have that to turn to.

    Thanks for the linkup!

    1. Oddly enough, outdoor miles don't hurt the girl parts. But let's not talk about the indoor trainer. YIKES. I haven't resorted to pool running. I guess because there was no BIG race to save this time. And hopefully, I'm not going to be out that long anyway.
