Coffee Talk (February)

Welcome to Coffee Talk!

It's a chilly Saturday morning.  Today my coffee is Dark Magic with Peppermint Mocha Creamer.  Grab your mug and let's chat a while. I can hardly believe it's February.  The month of love.  Ha ha.  It's actually my least favorite month. Perhaps because it signals our Spring is just around the corner, yet it is typically our coldest and grayest month of the year.

Over Coffee...

I'd admit I'm struggling with motivation.  Mix one part post Disney Marathon blues with gray winter days, sprinkle in a few health issues and it's been a recipe for disaster.  I'm currently searching for a huge dangling carrot.  I have a few things in the works but they seem so far away.  I will find  my Mojo.  I will. (Actually, he is sitting right beside me now.  My dog...)

Over Coffee...

Have you tried a Pure Barre class?  I took my first one last weekend.  It was energizing and certainly works your entire body without any jumping around.  My obliques cried for days.  But, I think the most frustrating thing was my inability to see the instructor.  Often times, I was facing the bar on a wall without a mirror and the instructor and her assistant were both behind me.  So, I was continually forced to crane my neck around.  I eyed the lady to my left so much I think she was was ready to slap me.  It is a poor setup in my opinion, but hey -- they didn't ask me.

Over Coffee...

After a three month hiatus, I'm enjoying my bike again.  As long as it's not extra windy, I can handle temps in the 40s.  I look forward to riding both days this weekend.  I'd like to try a Century Ride or a Metric Century Ride this year.  My longest ride to date is 65 miles so I need to increase that somewhat to do a full Century.  Did you see the cool wheel lights I received for Christmas?  It definitely gives a little spark to a dark morning ride.

Over Coffee...

On the work front, I'm finally starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel. I have been short staffed since last summer.  After long stressful days at the office on the computer, the last thing I wanted to do was get on one at home.  My blog has suffered.  I hope to get it back where it should be.  I miss reading your posts and staying caught up with all my blogging friends.

Speaking of Coffee...

I'll leave you with this.  The only way I'll grace the doors of Walmart is by bribing myself with a Starbucks afterwards.  I did my thing at Walmart and pulled up to the drive thru.  I pay and because it's a warmish day, I leave my window down.  As I'm pulling away, I hear the barista say "Is there a carnival in town or something?"  Why yes, yes there is.  And it's a HoLottaFun

Don't forget to join us on the Weekly Wrap.  Not only will you find support and motivation from a group of wonderful strong and active women, but it's a great way to record your training, recap your races, or just simply stay accountable!

What would you tell me over coffee?

  1. Um, I don't get the barista's comment? Other than that it was rude.

I sorta agree about Feb -- such a tease, and not in a good way. OTOH, my birthday falls in Feb, so there's that. Even if we don't do much.

Work & life . . . sometimes you just gotta do them!

    1. I didn't get the barista's comment either. I don't know what she thought was carnival-ish about me. Maybe she was having a bad day? Happy Birthday month!

  2. Winter days can do a number on the mojo for sure! The grey days are making it tougher to get outside for me.

Glad to hear you're starting to see some relief at work. Hopefully that light at the end of the tunnel gets much brighter and fast!

    1. It's another gray and rainy day here. So much for the cycling I had planned.

  3. That disney cup is adorable. I hope to do a disney race some day. Heard really great things about it. Agreed February is my least favorite month. But, at least I still see some sun when I get home after work. So no complains!

    1. Disney races are very entertaining. I'm seeing the sunsets as I drive home now. Improvement! It has been dark already when leaving work.

  4. Your coffee sounds delicious mocha peppermint together or by themselves - great flavors! I'm having some raspberry tea on this overcast and chilly morning. I like those pretty bike lights!

    1. It's funny, I'm not a fan of mint chocolate at all. But I do love this creamer.

  5. I like February because it's a short month and gets us closer to spring sooner! :)

I'm having trouble getting motivated to ride Holly. There's two reasons for this ... 1. it's too cold for me. I can't ride unless it's in the mid 50's at least. 2. I really don't have a good place to ride here in my new town....at least none that I've found. There is a great place to ride my mountain bike but I'm not sure if that will suffice as a substitute for the road bike mileage I'll need for a metric or century ride. Sigh... not sure what to do. I've looked into buying a trainer to set up in the house ..may just have to do that if I'm really going to tackle this goal.

    1. I have a bike trainer. I find it to be the equivalent of a treadmill. Ugh. I ride in an adjoining neighborhood that is bigger than my own so I don't have to continually u-turn. I cycle on either a 4 or 6 mile loop. It works. It's not very scenic though. Maybe a fall ride would be easier?

  6. I am so impressed that you can ride outside in these chilly temps. Just can't do it so for now I am on the spin bike. Thanks so much for joining for coffee today! I don't usually post on Sundays but I am going to try to make the weekly wrap this week

    1. I'm sure you have to deal with colder temps than me too. Our Weekly Wrap is open through Wednesday evening. We'd love for you to join us anytime it's convenient for you!

  7. LOVE your wheel lights - so fun and definitely makes you visible to motorists. I've never tried a Pure Barre class, but I have friends who have and they said it definitely makes your muscles hurt in places you didn't know existed! If there was one that was at least within an hour of here I would try to go. Ahhh, small town life - no barre, no yoga, no run clubs... :/

    1. Pure Barre will certainly make you sore. I felt like I got a quality session. Small town life definitely has its benefits though!

  8. Over coffee (well, I'd actually be drinking a chai latte'), I'd tell you that I'm so done with winter. I think it has been one of the windiest winters of my life, and I've had about all of "Milly time" I can handle....Bring on SUMMER!

    1. Winter is usually my favorite time to run. But...well I'm on a little break for a few weeks. And today? It's raining. Do I want to cycle in the rain on slick streets? I think not.

  9. I ran this morning after coffee and it was brutal. It was 13 degrees, there was wind, and I didn't warm up for the rest of the day. I've had enough!

    Ok, I"m done now...

    1. You go girl! My feet and hands would be like blocks of ice. I hope you soaked in a warm tub and drank a huge mug of coffee or cocoa.

  10. There's a good chance I'm going to skip my "long" run this weekend entirely. How do you like them apples?? Wtf with the carnival comment? I'm jelly of your bike time. There's no way no how to ride outside here. I do enjoy my weekly spin class though. I haven't tried Pure Barre but I've done the Barre class offered at my gym. The instructor wears bedazzled everything. Now that's a carnival.

    1. I'm clueless about the carnival comment. I was not be-dazzled or trying out my new clown makeup. And, I wasn't pulling a float or anything behind my car... LOL

  11. So far my March races are motivating me but we've also had a milder winter than usual, except on Sundays when I have time to get on my bike and its cold and windy! I have to remember I didn't ride much this time last year.

    1. I am registered for a March half but I may switch and do the 5k. I'm afraid I don't have time to prepare after taking some weeks off for marathon recovery. I do have April, May and June halves in the works. The motivation to do those should kick in.

  12. What is with the carnival comment? Where you sporting some clown hair or something? I am running in the Gasparilla challenge at the end of the month- I am thinking it will be a #holottafun for a big girl's weekend in 2018! Just throwing it in the hat!

    1. Clueless. I checked the mirror. I thought I looked "normal". It must have been the lion cage I was pulling behind my car. LOL!! Ooohhhh...Gasparills is a great idea for 2018.

  13. Ha, I don't get the baristas comment either?

I haven't been on my outdoor bike since November. It ended up getting really chilly on my ride back and the faster I went the colder I got...lol

I despise Walmart so I'd have to bribe myself too.

    1. I didn't get the comment either. Something struck her as odd. Maybe it wasn't me? I do my best to enter through Walmart's Garden Center and check out there too. It aggravates me when that register is closed! The main checkout is a nightmare!

  14. I did Pure Barre for the first time in December! It was a fun to do something different. And I see myself doing it again in the future. However, it was a little slow to be my go to work out.

  15. I've not taken a Pure Barre class, but I have a feeling I'd need to be able to see the instructor and follow her lead as well. Too bad they don't have mirrors on the wall.

    1. They only had mirrors along one wall and it wasn't the one I was facing. It seems like they would have them on all the walls.

  17. Sorry to hear about the post-marathon blues. Hopefully you get out of the funk soon!

I take barre classes but not at pure barre so I don't know their set up...I'm always looking at the person next to me though to see if I'm in the right position haha!
