Let's Run (fess)

I runfess... I refused to give my latest injury much press for fear of sounding like (and more so feeling like) a bitter old woman.  I just hopped on Sanity and let her work her magic.  I cycled 334 miles between the time I found out I had a true fracture in my "good" foot and my follow-up appointment to make sure it had healed.  334 miles.    If you are reading this on Friday morning, I've probably just run for the first time.  And, I'm expecting a few happy tears.
Thank you, girl!
I runfess... I did throw a wee pity party after my diagnosis, although I did not let it morph into a pity vacation.   Let's just say there were too many Mexi-Cali burritos consumed during the gala (with copious amounts of sour cream and the necessary accompanying margaritas) and countless late night spoonful's of  Justin's Vanilla Almond Butter eaten in a dark kitchen. You'll be proud to know I did not purchase a single frosted shortbread cookie from Starbucks.  {Gasp -- I know!}

I runfess... Seeing the azaleas begin their amazing bursts of color last weekend while cycling made my heart sing, just like the birds I could hear over my music.  However, the realization is -- our summer will be right behind with it's suffocating heat and humidity, with it's lower running paces and lessons of humility.  After all, it's already been knocking on the door of 80 degrees all week.  Be forewarned, there may be a little whining until I get over it.

At Callaway Gardens

I runfess... Due to my aforementioned plight, I put my racing plans on hold with nothing on the calendar except for a lone March half I had already signed up for.  At least I'll get to spend time with Tricia, whether I choose to participate or simply be her race support.  Other plans are being worked through with frenzy.  I've already upped my cycling mileage to prepare for a Metric Century Ride with fellow friend and blogger Teresa (although we still haven't chosen which one!)   I've got two stunningly scenic races in the works for Spring:  Door County Half Marathon with my dear friend Wendy and the Utah Valley Half Marathon where I hope to visit with other bloggers and friends.

Scenery such as this?     Yes, please!
I runfess... I thought it was going to be too difficult to get to Utah as I would be out of town.  Then I realized there are airports everywhere (duh).  I just couldn't pass on their 10th anniversary commemorative jacket and large finisher medal.  I hope I can work out the details without spending an airfare fortune.  I've run one other downhill half through the canyons.  That Colorado race still reigns supreme at the top of all 47 half and full courses.  I expect those Utah canyons to be the same kind of scenic, speedy and downhill delight.  Will this race move into my number one spot?  Stay tuned!    I was given an extra race entry by the nice people in Utah.  If anyone is interested in running the full, half or 10k distance on June 10th -- please comment below!

  1. I"ll runfess that I'm having FOMO about Utah. But I do have 4 other bloggers meeting me in Duluth, so I've got that...

And we have Door County! I cannot wait.

    1. No, I haven't booked anything yet. I'm waiting to see if the hubs and kids are interested in a trip out west.

  3. I will look forward to reuniting with you, MB & Marcia in UT. My parents better stay healthy that long! See, I can be a selfish bit#^@ with the best of them. I wish you could talk Tricia into it (if anyone can, you can).

I knew something was up -- damn, woman, what is up with your feet? Like I should talk. Lately I've begun to feel as though my body is attacking me!

As bad as training in the winter is up here, I have to runfess that I'll take the winter over summer heat in the south any day and twice on Sundays.

I hope you have a marvelous run!

    1. The doc says it's just my extremely high arches causing problems. There's not a lot you can do about that, except run less miles I guess. I can try the insert route -- but I hesitate on that. It seems to cause other problems for some.

  4. The airfare was the huge stopper for me for Utah. It was gong to be over $500 and it was going to be multiple stops. Have fun!

    1. I'm pretty shocked how expensive it is. It would help to drive to a larger airport but that's just added stress and added time.

  5. Mexican margarita parties sound way better than pity parties. I am impressed by all your biking though. I got out twice this week

    1. Biking kept me from going nuts. Thankfully we've had a very mild winter so I could get a mix of trainer and outdoor rides.

  6. I so wish I could do Utah this year but the flights are just too expensive :( I' hope I can try it next year!

  7. I'm not surprised. From your symptoms, I knew what was up. At least you got to run your marathon.

And you got in a lot of biking miles.

I'm afraid of the same since I had one stress fracture (also in my good foot). I fear a marathon is not in my future.

I am jealous that everyone is going to Utah but I just can't afford it.

    1. This was a real "air between the bones" (doc's words) fracture. It didn't even hurt only a slight discomfort when I tried to run. Do you know how hard it was to NOT run when I didn't feel any pain?

  8. Oooo! What race did you run in Colorado? I'm running the Colorado Half Marathon in May and I'm super excited. It's all downhill - or so the race says - but the elevation should kill me for sure! :)

    1. I did REVEL Rockies which was just outside of Denver. The elevation was definitely a factor. We started out at 7500 feet! I couldn't breathe.

  9. I am going to have so much FOMO going on with your trips and meetups. I just can't make everything I want to do happen!
I am very much looking forward to seeing you in a few weeks. It will be great to be together again for some girl time! :)

    1. Sista, with all those fun races on your calendar -- we all should be the ones with FOMO. We are definitely due for some girl time!

  10. I was offered the Utah race entry as well and am so sad that I can't run it (we are traveling the month prior and I can't swing another trip so soon). This looks like it will be a super fun race!

Your foot, ack! I hope today's run was a good one and you're back to feeling good again. Injuries suck!

You can complain about the heat and humidity to me all you want. I feel your pain and am in the same predicament of "oh, look how green everything is getting already" that comes with a side of dread.

    1. The Utah date is not the best for me either. I'm trying to work it out. Ah yes, you'll understand my summer whimpering. Running is almost like a different sport when our summer arrives (which will be April more than likely!).

  11. Sometimes you gotta let yourself have a pity party. It can be frustrating, and I know the feeling well. Wine is my beverage of choice, but sometimes tequila is needed.

    1. There were a few "Why Me?" moments. Then you have to dig in a decide to do what you can do. Why Me doesn't tend to help the healing process.

    1. I love that bright lime green color when the trees put out new leaves! Some of my azaleas have died. I once had an explosion of color in my front yard.

  15. Yes, add me to the FOMO Utah list...but a week later, in Duluth, I will seek much comfort in the company of other FOMO's at Grandma's marathon. I hope your foot is feeling better soon!!!
