This week started on the coast of Florida and ended in the canyons of Utah. Stormy weather, tapering (and pure laziness) kept me from running most days. A lot of this happened...
I did run get out for 5 progressive miles midday on Tuesday. The breeze made the otherwise warm and steamy conditions quite tolerable and I really enjoyed the beach side run. Erring on the side of caution, I decided not to run again until race day.

Friday was travel day. Our college kid sweetly accompanied me on this trip. After arriving in Provo, we headed up to Bridal Veil Falls and traversed the steep rocky trails as far as we were allowed. It was more challenging than we expected but well worth the effort.
We then headed to the race expo where there were a good selection of vendors (and some very enthusiastic sales people I might add). Instead of a T-shirt, we received a very impressive and functional lightweight jacket with a thumb hole cuff.
I connected with a few bloggers you may know and we dined at California Pizza Kitchen afterwards.

I'm saving the race recap and other Utah adventures for another post. But I'll leave you with this view of the half marathon and 10k runners nearing the finish line. Yep, we ran down through those canyons!
And that's a wrap! |
Have you been to Utah? What city?
Do you like to run down hill?
Do you make expo purchases?

A jacket instead of a race shirt. I LOVE IT! I wish more races would offer something besides a cotton or technical t-shirt. Looks like you had beautiful views during your race. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteThe view of the falls was beautiful but I wouldn't dare climb up the rocks. :-)

ReplyDeleteOh, what a teaser! Those falls definitely look worth the effort! I'm sure you all had so much fun!
ReplyDeleteThat scenery is amazing! Yes, I had FOMO this weekend. Was the altitude what made it tough?
ReplyDeleteThose falls are beautiful! Looking forward to hearing about Utah!
ReplyDeletewow...a jacket? Looks nice! What a great pic of all those beautiful gals ;-) I'm excited to hear more about Utah!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great place for a race! Hope you had a great time!
ReplyDeleteI love the race jacket and I'm still suffering from race envy. I can't wait to read everyone's recaps. I love downhill races. I PR'd at Steamtown Marathon which has a huge downhill section in the early part of the race. I loved the downhill portion of my first leg of at Ragnar DC my first year of running it and felt like I was flying down that mountain after having to run up the other side.
ReplyDeleteBill and I lived in Logan, Utah the first two years we were married while he was in grad school at USU. It's a gorgeous state.
I would have a hard time leaving that beach view for a run! I think I would be pretty lazy too! :) Utah looks beautiful! That waterfall would be worth the hike!! Have a great week! I can't wait to read the race recap!
ReplyDeleteOh I love the jacket!! Looks like y'all had a great time meeting up and a great race! Can't wait to hear all about it!
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you how much I LOVE that the race gave you a jacket instead of a typical t-shirt, that's awesome! So looking forward to reading your race recap. I enjoyed seeing all the photos of you ladies on social media this weekend :)
ReplyDeleteI actually do not like to run downhill as it kills my quads!
Thanks for letting me guest host the Weekly Wrap this week, I really appreciate it!
Aww look at all you lovely ladies! Looking forward to your complete recap!
ReplyDeleteI hate hills so you would think I'd enjoy downhills but I don't like those either! Thanks for the link Up!
I cannot wait to read all of your posts about Utah! Looks like everyone had a blast
ReplyDeleteI've been to SLC in Utah - only once though, for work. it was a nice trip- the city looked beautiful! I don't mind running downhill, but it makes me nervous and I try to run slow so I don't trip. Can't wait to hear about your visit!!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to read the recap. I love Utah. I've only been once, but we saw most of the national parks and visited Salt Lake for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I do like running downhill, but I know I'll hurt for a few days! ;)
ReplyDeleteBridal Veil Falls looks nice! What a great group pic! Looking forward to reading your recap!
ReplyDeleteSand, sea, mountains and waterfalls all in one week! Sound perfect. Looking forward to your recap.
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing everyone's pics on Instagram from Utah. Looks like it was a blast!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear more about the race. The canyons are so beautiful!! That's so great that all these other bloggers did the race too!
ReplyDeleteLove the jacket with thumb holes! What a great change up. I want to go to Provo so bad!!! Never been to Utah.
ReplyDeleteThat's an impressive jacket. I don't normally make expo purchases anymore, but if it's a big expo, it is fun to look around.
ReplyDeleteI love when races give something other than a t-shirt! I'm a sucker for race expos and normally make several purchases...especially at the bigger expos.
ReplyDeleteNever been to Utah, but it's definitely on my list. Those falls look gorgeous!
I love that jacket- that's awesome "swag" for the race instead of just a boring t-shirt (which we all already have enough of). I'm not a huge fan of running downhill because it beats your quads up, so I try to reel it in and not "fly" down the bridge when I run it. I've never been to Utah but it looks like a really beautiful place to run a race- love that your week took you from beach running to running in Utah!
ReplyDeleteI love me a slight downhill, but anything too down I almost have to pull myself back. I always joke I'm kind of like a freight train heading down hill, easy to get moving, hard to stop. I can't seem to get my legs to turnover as fast as my body weight pulls me down!
ReplyDeleteLove that jacket! So practical!
What a lovely view of that race!! and that waterfall!!
ReplyDeleteI love that shot of all of the lovely blogger ladies!! how awesome to meet them in person!
That jacket looks AWESOME! I hate short sleeve shirts, so I rarely wear any kind of race shirt. But if I had the option for a jacket or tank, I would enthusiastically take it! I've never been to Utah but those views look like I should! I usually don't make expo purchases (except runDisney races apparently) - I think it has to due with nothing new on race day, and if I'm not going to use it immediately, I can buy anything at a later date!
ReplyDeleteI love downhills; I really do & that part didn't bother me except I had this really weird thing going on with my calf. Always something.
ReplyDeleteI, too, ran Tuesday & then not again til the race . . . but there was lots of hiking!
I didn't buy anything at the expo but I did buy sport sunglasses at the farmers market in Parl City cause they were a new color.
It was lovely to see you again & nice to meet your son, too. Hope he enjoyed!
Nothing wrong with some lazy days on the beach, especially during race week. Looks like a great way to rest those feet and legs!
ReplyDeleteWhat a week with so much pretty and diverse scenery! Within minutes of being in Utah for the first time, I swore I would move there! I'd have loved to do this race. Looking forward to the recap!
ReplyDeleteA beach run sounds so good right now - after the run and after the stretch, maybe a little dip in the water.
ReplyDeleteI definitely like how fast I go when I run downhill but running downhill usually means having climbed the hill in the first place - not quite as fun. haha.
I'm looking forward to reading your full recap! I hope you had a fantastic race!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know your son went with you! How fun! Did he run or was he just support? Wow that that is a nice jacket and with thumb holes! No way!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed all the posts from this weekend in Utah! So how was the all downhill race anyway? Were you any more sore than after a normal half? I've got to add this to my list of races to do!
Hope you and that sweet college boy of yours made it home safely! I so enjoyed meeting you in person and finally putting a voice to the posts and texts! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm going to hold you to that bike ride in the fall!
Sounds like an awesome time! I love Utah! My mother and sister-in-law live there (near Park City) and it is so beautiful. I also love Southern Utah for hiking. Loved seeing your pics on IG! That race looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteLooks like so much fun! I look forward to reading your recap!
ReplyDeleteThat's great that your son went with you. Utah looks amazing. I went to Bryce and Zion canyons years ago and want to go back someday.
ReplyDeleteI've never done a downhill race. Maybe someday. Looking forward to #holottafun in Vegas.
What beautiful pictures! Can't wait to hear about the full race!
ReplyDeleteThat race jacket is just gorgeous! WAY better than a t-shirt! Looks like you've been taking in some gorgeous sights and I look forward to the full race. How fun to have a blogger meet up too!
