Coffee Talk (June)

Welcome to Coffee Talk!

It's a muggy and warm morning in Dixie.  I'm sipping and swinging on my back porch -- under the ceiling fan of course.

There's Coconut Creamer in my Dark Magic coffee and the Keurig is on standby.  Let's swing and chat a while.

Over Coffee...

You'd hear how I've traveled a good bit already this year.  While I had a lot of fun and enjoyed some cool experiences including checking off a bucket list item, I look forward to summer when we typically stay home and just go to the lake or chill in our back yard on weekends. For Mother's Day, the kids gave me a really neat bean bag floating chair.  I plan to live in it all summer.  If only it had a cup holder...   For coffee...

Over Coffee...

Speaking of travel, I'd admit how I utterly failed in my Starbucks mug collection efforts.  Colorado?  No.  Although there was a Starbucks at the ski resort, it sadly did not sell mugs.  The driving was so desolate to and from the nowhere town we stayed in, we were lucky to get gas station coffee.   I did snag the beauty pictured above during an Oklahoma pit stop.  How about Wisconsin?  No.  I had the opportunity to buy a mug at the airport but was so overloaded (OK -- more likely overwhelmed)  I couldn't fathom carrying one.more.item.  What was I thinking?

Over Coffee...

You'd probably be able to tell how excited I am to be going out west to run the Utah Valley Half Marathon next weekend.  This will be a new state for me.  Although I'm not a 50 stater, I do like running in new places.  The course should be stunning!  I also love a good down hiller.  But the thing I'm looking forward to most in Utah?  Low humidity.   I'm simply giddy about that.  Connecting with other bloggers will be a blast too.  And rest assured, I will come home with a Utah mug no matter how much stuff I have in my bag.

I'm ready to get my Tri game face on!

Over Coffee...

I'd ask if you thought I was crazy to be considering a sprint triathlon one week after the half marathon.   It is one I really enjoyed last year but I completely let the date slip up on me.  Keep in mind, to help calm a cranky hip I haven't been on my bike since April.  Nor have I attempted a brick workout  Technicalities.  I have paddled around in the pool a couple of times.  Here is the real clincher.  I've seen the finisher's medal.  It is soooo pretty.

Over Coffee...

While on the subject of swimming, I'd ask if you like to swim outdoors at night.  I find it so peaceful. Just this week there was a beautiful crescent moon shining between the tall pines.  I had James Taylor coming through the speakers.  I could see the fireflies twinkling.  I could hear the cricket's soft lullaby. Ahhh....  Until a dog starting hacking up a bone.  Swim time over!

What would you tell me over coffee?

  1. Do you collect coffee mugs from each state you visit? Are they only Starbucks mugs or any mug with that state on them? We use to collect hurricane glasses from Hard Rock Cafe cities we visited. We saw our friends do it and thought it was cool. We are So over it now and all they do is collect dust...haha

    1. I actually collect both kinds of mugs when I travel. I like the Starbuck mugs because they stack up! Obviously, I'm not extremely serious about it. I don't even have one from my own state.

  2. I think I might be scared to swim outside at night in anything other than a pool. lol That bean bag raft sounds perfect! Sounds like Utah is the place to be this summer you are all going to have a great time. I think doing your sprint tri will just fine as long as you rest in between! Do it for the bling right? Thanks for joining for coffee today!

    1. I don't think I could get in the lake at night either. My imagination would run wild. Since this is a downhill course (and I expect some soreness) there may me nothing between it and the tri.

  3. Do it for the medal! It seems like tons of bloggers are doing Utah this year - It sounds like a blast.

    1. Well, it's not like I'm looking to place or set a PR. I can just have fun and earn a pretty medal in the process!

    1. It will be fun to reconnect with bloggers I've already met and those I haven't! I may need to write mug on my hand. LOL.

  5. I missed some states. Colorado is one. I guess to visit since I need Alabama. FOMO about Utah. I've been and again no mug to show for it.

    1. If you visit me, we'll both buy state's mug. I don't have it either! Or Florida -- and I'm there all the time.

  6. Bummer on the mugs! I never started collecting because I never felt like I had room in my bag, but I wish I had! You will just have to go back to CO! If we had a pool, I'm sure I'd love to swim at night. We certainly do when we visit the in-laws! :-)

    1. Our pool light goes out all the time! That aggravates me to no end. I want to swim in a lighted pool when it is dark. You are probably wise not to start the mug collection.

  7. The course will be stunning and will make up for the early wake up call. The race starts at 6am so holy frijoles we'll have to be up at 3am?

    1. It will be just like a Disney race wake-up call! At least it will "feel" an hour later due to the time change?

  8. Definitely low humidity & it makes a huge difference. Right now it's hot but it might cool down just in time!

I, too, am looking forward to some downtime at home. I SO wish I had a pool, you'd be surprised how many people do despite the short season.

Let's just say Provo doesn't look like the most exciting town & I fear for my mug chances! I love the one I bought in NOLA.

I'm LOL at your comment to Darlene -- I didn't have to buy a mug in FL because I already had one from Key West. Already had a WA mug, too!

    1. I have a NOLA Starbucks mug. It's one of my favorites! I'm hoping for perfect race weather in Utah. It's got to be better than what we have here.

  9. That bean bag raft sounds marvelous ...and a cup holder for coffee? Right!!! lol

Definitely go for the tri! You will do great and you NEED that medal girl! See you soon!

    1. Now what on earth else what I put in a cup holder on a sunny afternoon???? The medal has butterflies. How can I pass on that?

  10. Now I can't remember if I ever got a Wisconsin mug...
We will definitely get one in Utah. We'll have to do it before Sunday since everything is closed there that day.
I'll bet you'll be fine at the tri. Anything for a pretty medal. haha!

    1. Surely we will at least have an airport opportunity to buy a mug. It would be hard to pass on the easiest swim you could ever get.

  11. Awwwww, I wish Utah wasn't a mere week in front of Grandma's or I would have considered joining all of you awesome gals. I'm not a coffee gal, but I do love my chai latte's. I wish I would have thought to start a Starbucks collection...I guess I still could start a collection, but there would be so many "missing"pieces...

    1. My first Starbucks mugs were of a different design than the ones they have now. I like the older ones better but the newer ones stack -- which is nice.

  13. I too would be super excited about the low humidity! I do like to swim in a pool at night, it's much more peaceful than during the day.

  14. Yeah the dog hacking would kind of kill the mood, right?

I didn't know you collected Starbucks mugs! I plan on snagging an Alabama one for my collection. I can't believe there is Oklahoma but no Charleston? So weird. PS I'm sending you a Wisconsin one. You can't go on without it.

    1. Very large cities get their own mug instead of just the state offering. I guess Charleston wasn't big enough. You'd be required to get SC. It kind of makes the collecting thing confusing...especially if your are wanting states.

  15. That's a serious tri game face you've got going on there! We lived in northern Utah for two years when we were first married while Bill was in grad school and the weather is delightful! Have fun!

  16. When we first moved into our apartment complex, the pool were accessible 24/7. It was amazing to float around after dark, when no one else was around. Unfortunately, they started chaining up the pool at night a couple years ago, so those days are gone.

Bummer about those missed Starbucks mug. Hope you definitely get the one from Utah. :) Oh, and good luck at the race, too. ;)

    1. That's too bad about your pool access. I can see why though -- rowdy people would be noisy at night.
