Runfessions (July)

July is almost over?  Geez!  How can that be?  As another month comes to a close, it's that time again.  It's time for a healthy dose of runfessions.  Let's get started.

I runfess...

I'm a bit annoying when I water ski.  I'll  beg  demand politely ask someone in the boat to take pictures for me.  I'm old, you know and ... I feel I need evidence.  Anyhoo, on this Monday morning (and I further runfess I was very late to work...shhhh...) it was just PoPo and me.  I was disappointed we had missed the official sunrise but I made my usual request anyway.  He rolled his eyes to which I replied, "But, you never know what you might get".  As I started to ski, he stood up and turned around (letting the boat drive itself) and took quite a few pictures.   BAM!

Original Picture -- No Filter

I runfess...

On the subject of being old,  I stopped at Publix to do my grocery shopping last Wednesday -- completely forgetting it was Wednesday and thus >>> the dreaded senior discount day.  My ego and I have been avoiding Wednesdays at Publix since our mid 40s.  {Heavy Sigh}   Well, at least I received a $9.84 credit toward my bill.

I runfess...

I've completely forgotten my manners!  Marcia sweetly gave me this SPARKlet by Momentum when we were at the Utah Valley Half Marathon.  I'm not sure I gave her a proper thanks at the time (Thanks, Marcia!).  I wore Beast Mode on race day and channeled that extra motivation.  I love that you can put these anywhere at all.  In fact, Sanity (my bike) is now sporting Beast Mode.  She is, after all, training for her first Century Ride.

I runfess...

Speaking of Sanity, I received new Garneau cycling shoes and Shimano clipless pedals for Christmas {thanks, Santa}.  I finally installed the new pedals on my bike this month.  I'm embarrassed to say I was terrified.  OK, OK at first I did have a great excuse -- a recently broken foot.  And then it healed.  And yet there they were, still sitting in their boxes.  I put my big girl panties on and got over myself.

The big girl panties were a perfect fit!

I runfess...

I vowed I would not whine about running in our southern heat and nasty humidity in this post ...

                        I so did it!

What would you like to runfess?

  2. Love your waterskiing pictures. Please don't stop. I ask someone to take my pic before each race. You know at my age, it could be my last LOL

    100 miles is beast mode.

I whine about the rain so you can whine about the heat.

    1. That's the way I feel. I may never be able to ski again. LOL. Triple digit heat indexes for a month now...stick a fork in me.

    1. They don't even ask my age anymore (maybe that's company policy so they don't offend?). The discount just appears on the receipt. OK, then! Evidence is always required!

  7. There is no shame in getting that discount at the supermarket! You can use the savings to put toward new running clothes or shoes - just saying :)

    1. If they are going to give it to me (when I don't qualify), then I'm taking it. I should make my regular day Wednesday!

  8. I don't mind getting discounts, but I also don't shop during the week, unless I absolutely need something. My gym is next to a grocery store, so I can do a quick dash in and out.

  9. Um, if you get my ass out of the water (I'm buying a new suit for the occasion), I fully expect photos! Hello? Who are we?

And how old do you have to be to get the senior discount at Publix?

    1. Although I knew years ago, I've forgotten what the rule is for the senior discount. I'll have to look that up. It might make me more upset. LOL.

  10. I was wondering about those water skiing shots! They turned out fantastic! Biking shoes totally freak me out! Not that I bike much (and I'm especially banned from it for now), but I doubt I'd ever bet biking shoes. That's just a face plant waiting to happen (or a recent suture to split wide open from the crash that would most likely ensue...

    1. They take a little practice but aren't the scary animal some people (including myself) think they are. You'd do fine!

  12. Haha! I'm glad your big girl panties felt so good with your new clipless pedal system...but remember, big girl panties aren't comfortable with cycling shorts!:)

That really is an incredible shot of you skiing! You should submit it for some sort of water skiing site/magazine. It's beautiful!

I'm sure hoping that Sanity and Lexi's beast mode will hold up long enough for us to cross that 100 mile finish line!

    1. Oh how I wish someone would take photo of Sanity and Lexi crossing the finish line! I wonder if I could bribe PoPo to come out and do that for us?

  13. You really do get amazing water skiing pictures - so worth the eye rolls! I hope your transition to clipless shoes is painless - once you've felt the extra power there's no going back.

    1. I think even PoPo was impressed with that shot. He didn't even eye roll after my last request. LOL.

  14. Publix apparently has a strange definition of senior. And I'd love to get a senior discount almost anywhere!

Mr. Judy often rolls his eyes when I ask for photos, especially when I tell him to hold up the darn Ipod for a better angle!

    1. PoPo has learned to just repeatedly press the shutter. He knows I'll get something useful out of it. I'm getting used to that discount!

  15. I'd be all over that discount! Haha! I swear I should do a whole post about the ridiculousness involved in picture taking. Thanks for linking and sorry I'm so freaking late to make it over here!

    1. At least they don't ask me anymore if I qualify for the discount. It just appears on my receipt. It must have been a decision by Publix executives...when in doubt, just give it and don't ask.

  16. The clipping in is really not as bad as it seems. You can adjust the spring tension too so that popping out is easier.
