********************************************************

This week started with the much appreciated Labor Day holiday.  After a very warm late morning run of four miles, we returned to the lake in the late afternoon.  The conditions were ideal and PoPo captured this for me just before sunset.

Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy....

The focus this week was regular ol' running.  A cold front moved through and I took advantage of our chilliest morning (57 degrees) to work on speed, something I haven't done in quite a while.  Although not particularly speedy, it felt good to push the pace.  Yes -- there is work to be done!

No tank top -- a dead giveaway it was chilly!

My running friend Barbara joined me for most of my seven miler Saturday morning.  With it being breezy and 62, this run felt great.  It is not often that I have the opportunity to run with anyone, so when I get to chat and run -- the miles fly by.  I wanted to keep running, but forced myself to stop.

Post run silliness

I had not planned to run Sunday, but the thought of cycling in the wind was not appealing.  Also realizing our weather was going to tank due to Hurricane Irma's new track, I decided to get in another run. I ran six easy midday miles, keeping my heart rate low (149).  That put me at 22 miles for the week, more than I intended.  Next week's lower mileage should even it out.

School has been cancelled.  Publix has closed (peeps, this must be serious!).  I'm storing all the possible missiles (aka yard art) from our back yard.  And I'm busy catching up on laundry in case the power is out for an extended period of time.   Obviously our weather won't be as bad as it is in Florida but my biggest fear is the huge trees (like in the picture above) will come crashing down...on our house.  Stay safe everyone!

And that's a wrap!

How often do you run with someone else?

What is your scariest weather story or fear?

    1. Sadly, yes. I think Irma is ending our summer season early. Sniff, sniff...

  2. I'm thinking and praying for all of my pals in Irma's vicinity. This is frickin' scary! I didn't realize your running friend's name is Barbara (another thing we have in common). Sadly, it's been almost three months since her and I have chatted while running, but we have done a lot of walking (she's been injured with a nasty PF flare). Stay safe!!!

    1. Thanks! Irma is likely to be a Cat 1 (or hopefully a tropical storm) by the time she gets here. It will be nothing like Florida is seeing.

  4. I hope you weather the storm well there. My scariest story was when I was driving home from VA Beach during Hurricane Sandy. I had dropped my sister off at work at the airport (she was a flight attendant) and 15 minutes later she called me to come get her because her flights had been cancelled for the week. We needed to go through the tunnel in order to get home and I was told that they would be shutting the tunnel down at a certain time due to flooding. I was so glad we made it through the tunnel on time or we would have been stranded there. Oh, and to boot we had 2 Labradors in the car with us too!

    1. Being stranded in a car is no fun. I did that recently on the interstate in a snow storm. At least we didn't have two dogs with us though. I've had dreams where my car goes into the water. Scary stuff.

  6. Great week of workouts! I hope that you stay safe this week in the weather!!

I run with someone about 90% of the time. If it's not with our running group then I almost always run with hubs. It makes running so much better!

    1. It is wonderful that you have someone to run with. I've always run so early in the morning before work -- and I never wanted to take the extra time to drive anywhere -- that my runs have mostly been solo. It's my thinking time.

  8. Oh gosh, the storms are so scary! I have vague memories of being stranded at a friend's house during a huge hurricane when I was in elementary school, and looking out her bedroom window seeing the flooded streets below. Luckily we were safe and sound inside. More recently, but still 15 years ago, there was a big hurricane here while I was on a business trip in beautiful Coronado. We kept leaving the meeting room to check on the news back home!

    1. We've weathered through a few bad hurricanes. Even 150 miles off the coast, the sustained wind speed in one of them was 100. That is the most scared I've ever been in my life. We sat through it in our hallway with a mattress over our heads. I don't expect it to be too rough here.

  9. Stay safe this week! It started to get chilly here this week too and I even wore long sleeves for a couple of runs!

  10. I hope you stay safe! Those are definitely some BIG trees. Our trees aren't as big, but that's still always a fear -- and it's happened not far from here.

My run in the thunderstorm this week wasn't my first run in a thunderstorm. :( We once had a small tornado near us (about a mile down the road) when we lived in TX. We gathered the boys (Gizmo & his brother) into the bathroom, but my elderly cat was nowhere to be found (pre-dogs).

She had wedged herself between a wall and our dresser. She was a smart pussy cat.

I do run by myself most of the time. And even when I'm in a group, I'm still usually running by myself.

    1. Our neighbors have several trees that are probably 80 feet or higher. I will not sleep upstairs when the weather is bad. Since I typically run alone, running with someone is a special treat. I'm not sure if I would want that ALL the time as I actually like my solo runs. You had a smart cat!

    1. I've got a million pics of me skiing. But, I always ask for more because you just never know what you might capture. I've certainly never had a picture with the suns rays literally hitting me like that. I thought that was so cool!

  14. Hope you don't get hit hard. Figures crossed.

    No hurricanes up my way.

I run so much better with a partner. I am a slacker when I run alone but it is often hard to coordinate schedules.

I will miss those waterskiing pics. Our lakes days are almost over :(

    1. If we are in her direct path, I hope she has lost her steam. I don't expect it to be really bad. My fingers are crossed as well. I'm not sure if I'll get back to the lake. Say it isn't so...

  15. Oh my, I didn't realize Montgomery was in the path! Hunker down girl, it can get rough. In 2004, when Hurricane Ivan hit, we had a huge pine tree fall across the street from our house and barely missed landing on our house by mere inches. It was scary. The loudest sound I've ever heard! Stay safe!

    1. Opal in 1995 was the scariest one I've ever gone through. The winds were incredible. We were in the hallway with a mattress over our heads. I will not sleep upstairs when our weather gets rough. We (and neighbors) all have trees towering above 80 feet or more. Scary.

    1. I don't expect it to be too bad but power outages and fallen trees from high winds are a real possibility. We should be safe from any water issues.

  17. Oh wow. I hope Irma goes easy on you or better yet doesn't come your way at all. Hope PCB is spared as well. No hurricanes here but the tornadoes are no picnic. Be safe!

    1. If the projected path is correct, PCB should be OK. That house has weathered quite a few bad ones over the years too! We should have worse weather here. But, you never know.

  21. I am sure that weather makes you happy! That is our weather lately and I am loving it. I rarely run with anyone. I run slow and don't want to hold anyone up. I don't mind it too much. But sometimes I'll run into my old CES running group and run with them as well.
