It's a new year, and the Weekly Wrap has a new look and a new co-host.
I'm sad to report that Tricia decided to step down as co-host. We have hosted this linkup together for two and a half years. I truly appreciate her friendship and assistance. Please join me in wishing Tricia well. Of course, we should all stay in touch too. We'll want to keep tabs on those fun adventures she is always heading off to in her RV.
Welcome, Wendy!

Well, the first week of 2018 brought changes for this stuck-in-her-ways older runner. A running acquaintance moved into my neighborhood last year and we'd been talking a while about running together. We finally made that happen on New Year's Day. Monday's 10 miler was the coldest run I've done in a long, long time. The wind was a huge factor. But running with someone definitely help supply the motivation I needed to get out of bed and into the frigid weather.
Say hello to Kaye |
I didn't run again until Thursday when I completed a 4 mile progression run before work (10:04, 9:53, 9:39, 9:20). My phone died, as it often does in really cold weather, so I took a picture of my watch when I got home. Since Alabama won their New Year's Day playoff game, I decided to run in my
lucky hat until the National Championship Game coming up on Monday. I just can't jinx them
now. [Roll Tide]
Kaye graciously invited me to run with her normal group of ladies on Saturday. We slept in and didn't begin until 9:00. Thankfully, it had warmed to 32 degrees and there was less wind. I was a little worried about keeping pace as I knew this was a speedier group. I decided to challenge myself and it turned out to be a great 9 mile run. Getting to know these girls and listening to the chatter as everyone was catching up from the holidays definitely took my mind off the miles...and the pace.
Me, Lee, Kaye, Laurie and Marla |
I rounded out the week Sunday by cycling 45 minutes (15.5 miles) on my mag trainer for crossing training. I also did my typical strengthening exercises twice this week. Nothing fancy. I'm just getting the job done. I may run a half marathon next weekend, but as this goes live -- I haven't decided. I know....that's nothing new, right?
Wow! Two runs with other humans this week!
Running = 3 @ 23.2 miles
Cycling = 1 @ 15.5 miles
And that's a wrap!
Do you regularly run (or cycle or workout) with others?
Are you training for anything specific?
So sad to see Tricia go, but happy to see you've found another wonderful co-host! Hopefully I'll start linking up again sometime soon. Until then, I'll be following all of you lovely ladies!
ReplyDeleteYou can always link up, even if you aren't training right now! In fact, I'm sure there are other ladies that would like to hear what you are doing to stay fit.
DeleteSounds like fun to run with new running buddies! Good luck with deciding about the half...for me the weather would be the biggest factor this time of year!
ReplyDeleteDown south, the weather is perfect for running races right now. So I think I need to take advantage of the winter races.
DeleteI love that you found some ladies to run with! Even if I get one run a week with Steph, it sure makes it less of a chore!
ReplyDeleteAgree! I wouldn't be able to do it during this week, but it's something to look forward to for those long weekend runs.
DeleteIt'a always meeting up with new running friends. There's never any awkward conversation pauses LOL Crazy how cold it is EVERYWHERE!
ReplyDeleteSo true! When runners are together, there are many things to discuss.
DeleteSorry to hear that Tricia is stepping down from being a co-host. I do hope she still continues to blog! Glad that Wendy has offered to co-host with you.
ReplyDeleteI'll be saving the new badge and adding it to our post! (Although, I haven't been doing much running since its been cold so my Weekly wrap is not exactly Fitness related so feel free to delete it if you want).
For clarification, generally speaking -- you do have a fitness blog. That's what we meant. We all have times where we aren't training or doing much running (downtime and recovery is a part of running!). Your post is perfectly fine.
DeleteAww, Gotcha! Thanks Holly!
Deleteyou had a great week of training. It's so much more fun to run and chat with others isn't it?! Sorry to see Tricia leave co hosting but yay for Wendy she will be a fabulous cohost.
ReplyDeleteI really need to work on my chatting while running skills. I'm not use to that! Tricia will definitely be missed but I'm very grateful Wendy agreed to co-host.
DeleteGood job running in the cold temps!! I think that's great you have a new friend to run with! It definitely does help the time and miles pass by when you run with others, and it's so much more fun than running alone! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't seem there is a shortage of conversation either. I just need to work on my talking & running skills.
DeleteGod job on your workouts this week and hooray for new running buddies! I love that you kicked off the new year with a long run too :)
ReplyDeleteSaid to see Tricia leave but welcome Wendy!
My friend is training for Boston (and first the LA Marathon) so her need for mileage is going to be great motivation for mine.
DeleteMeeting up with running friends is always fun! I've been missing mine since I've been sick/injured and can't wait to get back. Happy new year!
ReplyDeleteI hope you can get back to running and enjoying some miles with your friends!
DeleteLove that you got to run with a fun group! I have the best memories from running with others.
ReplyDeleteIt does supply an extra dose of motivation and accountability! I hope to do it more often.
DeleteThanks for the new badge. I got my post together before knowing Wendy is co-hosting, but I"ll have everything up to date next week :)
ReplyDeleteNo problem. We understand the old badge will make an appearance for a while.
DeleteI definitely like running with other people, especially in the winter. Makes me get out and do it!
ReplyDeleteYou are so right! I probably wouldn't have gotten out in that frigid weather by myself.
DeleteThat's awesome you have a running buddy in your neighborhood! I have a group I join sometimes, but I've been really bad about making a point to get there for the weekly runs.
ReplyDeleteI've never been one to meet up with local running groups or clubs for training runs. Having her literally just down the street is great.
Deletei have not worked out with others in so long - i miss it! I used to run regularly with a few girls, but after moving - and the winter - it's been a while. so fun that you got to run with a group and kept up with the pace. 9 miles at a fast pace - wowwewwa!
ReplyDeleteMaybe when the weather warms up you'll find some new people to run with in your new neighborhood.
DeleteThat's awesome -- both that Wendy will be cohosting & that you have new running buddies. Although I know have a group of women to run with, in general no one is really my pace or wants to run/walk & so I'm usually by myself anyway. :(
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to find someone exactly your same pace. I was afraid these ladies would be much faster. Surprisingly, we stayed together until the last few miles. And even then, we weren't far apart. Of course, they may have been running their slow pace and I was running my fast. But it worked out.
DeleteSorry to see Tricia go but HI WENDY! How nice to have a running bud in your hood! I'm a lone wolf and I "should" be training for Gasparilla, alas that's not really happening. Whoops.
ReplyDeleteYou still have some time left. I'm sure you'll get in enough miles for Gasparilla. And, I'm sure you'll have fun regardless.
DeleteYay for new running friends!!! And good luck Monday night ...Roll Tide!!!
ReplyDeleteNo matter what happens, it should be a good game with an SEC win!
DeleteI run alone! I don't know any runners around here, so it's just that way. My mom and I used to run together, but since I moved that's a no-go! Have a great week, Holly!
ReplyDeleteI've run mostly alone for years. I had running friends, but we all had different schedules and it was almost impossible to run together as it required driving to meet up too. It's nice when someone lives right down the street.
DeleteYou and your last minute Halfs! Sorry to say we were rooting for Clemson so can’t be cheering on Alabama!
ReplyDeleteIt is always good for me to run with people who are slightly faster....it pushes you and you can do more than you'd think :) Though I always get nervous beforehand too.
ReplyDeleteGreat week of training and thanks so much for hosting the link-up!
I hope that running slightly faster than what is comfortable on long runs will eventually feel comfortable. It can't hurt to give it a try.
DeleteHow nice to have some new people to run with! While I usually run alone, it can be motivating to run with others. Enjoy the game tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteWhile I won't always be able to run with this great group of ladies or even my friend Kaye, it is a nice change of pace to do so (pun intended).
DeleteHappy you found new people to run with! I enjoy running with friends! It does take your mind off pace while chatting away and it is always pleasant when you realize you are going faster than you thought. Sorry to hear Tricia is stepping down but glad you are keeping the weekly wrap and that Wendy has stepped up to co-host.
ReplyDeleteWe have such a great group that connect here each week and I'd like to see it continue!
DeleteI usually run alone but would be nice to run with others. I recently found someone close to me with a similar pace as me so I hope to run with her more often. That's great you ran twice with others. Time does seem to go by faster when running with someone else.
ReplyDeleteI think a bigger group is better so that you get a variety of paces. It is hard to match up exactly with just one person.
DeleteI had someone new move into the area and she keeps expressing interest in walking. I am not much of a walker and she mentioned "jogging" so I guess I am still waiting for another runner close to me to run with. Looks like you had a good week, great job getting outside in the cold and getting it done!
ReplyDeleteAt least you have a couple of four legged friends you can run with. I'm usually not much of a walker unless I'm injured. I'd rather spend that time running.
DeleteYes! It is because of my running community that I was able to do a 50K in subzero temps yesterday. I didn't link up my post this week because of the new rules (there are a few four letter words haha). If you'd like to check it out it's here: http://wholisticwoman.com/yankee-springs-winter-challenge-50k-recap-love-running-community/
ReplyDeleteI'll link up next week!
I read your post and sent you an email (not sure if you got it though). You absolutely could have linked in. We've always had the keep it clean rule. Otherwise, you just would not believe what would be linked here.
DeleteWendy is a great choice for a new co-host. Her attitude is most definitely the right fit for this link up.
ReplyDeleteI agree! She's one of the strongest women I know.
DeleteI will miss Tricia but glad you found a partner.
ReplyDeleteRunning friends are the best. Our weather has been a big downer. But my half is not until March so I won't panic yet.
I have a group to run with but as Judy says, it's hard to find someone at your pace. I am adaptable and just like the company so will run slower and others may slow down to run with me. Sometimes you have to change your pace to run with others or you run alone.
At least with the bigger group, we could pair up at different times and chat while others pushed ahead. And, it wasn't until the last mile or two that we did that. It worked out.
DeleteI love the lucky hat and am wishing Alabama well in the championship. You had some great workouts this week, good job on getting in done in the cold temps. It's snowy and cold here but I am hurt and can't run, which sucks. I don't think I would want to run in it though, brr...
ReplyDeleteWell, as you know by now -- Roll Tide. My lucky hat did its job. I don't mind running in the cold temps as long as it's not windy. That changes everything.
DeleteIt looks like new things are popping up everywhere! I think you'll love the motivation of a new running partner and I could not be more relieved that Wendy is stepping in to help you. I'll be around somewhere, you know I can't stay still long!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to our upcoming weekend and half marathon together too! It will be here before you know it.
DeleteI don't train with others very often as I can't commit to the same day with my husbands schedule. I do enjoy running with others though. I also really need to get on my bike!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been on an outdoor ride in a long time. I look forward to that in the spring.
DeleteI love that you have some running buddies - for me, that makes all the difference with my long runs, but just knowing that I am meeting up with someone at 5:45 am gets me up and out of bed. I'd be hitting the snooze and blowing off the run too often otherwise.
ReplyDeleteIt's much harder in the week for me due to scheduling, but I hope to be able to do more group runs on the weekend.
DeleteTWO runs with other humans - what a great start to the year! I left my running buddy in Nevada and haven't consistently run with other people since - most people here are so much faster than me! I did get to run with my sister-in-law over the holidays though.
ReplyDeleteI love when I get a chance to run with my sister. It is often, but it sure is enjoyable.
DeleteNow that I'm on the other side of injury I'm running with others at least once a week to ramp up my distance. It's nice to run at a conversational pace and visit new-to-me trails! I can't believe your temps were close to Montana's this past week. Crazy weather down there! Have a good week :)
ReplyDeleteOur weather has been really crazy. I enjoy the colder runs as long as there isn't a lot of wind. I wish I had pretty trails to enjoy.
DeleteGirl, I’m so nervous excited about this championship game! But who the heck schedules those games so late on a work night? 😂😂😂
ReplyDeleteIt was amazing how they turned things around in the 2nd half. It is nuts how late they schedule those games. But, it would be even worse if I lived in the eastern time zone.
DeleteI love running and working out with friends! It makes such a difference for me. And what a great way to catch up without piling on calories which was my usual way of catching up before! I will miss Tricia but I just know you and Wendy are going to make a great team. Best of luck in 2018. Looking forward to catching up every week!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great point...we should catch up on the pavement and not in the coffee shop (which is my weakness!). I'm sure Tricia will still be around.
DeleteI'm so glad you found some new running friends and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do mine! I see that Kaye has on a MCM shirt - such a great race!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the linkup!
P.S. I love the picture on your new Weekly Wrap badge!
DeleteThanks! I thought is was a pretty "almost" sunset picture.
DeleteYes, Kaye ran MCM this year and is now training for Boston.
DeleteI had my coldest run ever last weekend, too! Feels like 28, haha I know that's nothing compared to most but dang thats chilly for me! I always find that running with faster people makes me faster- love it! We wear the same shoes :)
ReplyDeleteThat is very chilly for you! Me too! I can barely talk when I run though. My lips are frozen. I can't do without my Mizunos!
DeleteYay for finding a running group! Hanging out and running with faster friends is not only good for the soul, it makes the miles go by quicker...literally! and omg that game last night!!! I was pulling for Georgia, I thought they had it! Oh well, both teams played a great game!!!
ReplyDeleteI thought Georgia had it in the bag. I actually got in the bed thinking the game was pretty much over. Boy did it get exciting! I had to get back up.
DeleteRunning with friends is great - I ran with a new friend this weekend and the miles flew By! Great job on your workouts!
ReplyDeleteNew running partners for the New Year seems to be a theme for this week. I'm glad you found one too.
DeleteTruth be known, I think their long run slow pace is my mid range pace. But it worked. I think you are really going to enjoy your training at the gym!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!! I have been reading your blog, but I think this is the first time a comment has went through?? I read and comment at work and they like to block things!!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Jodi! There are a few bloggers that I can't comment on while using my "big" computer. I have to use my laptop. I appreciate you reading anyway!
DeleteI'm primarily a solo runner. It's just easier. I don't know any runners that live nearby. :( I hope you get lots more runs in with Kaye and the speedy run group. It will make you faster, or so I hear. LOL
ReplyDeleteIt's always been easier for me just to go out the door and run solo too. If Kaye didn't live in my neighborhood, that's what I'd still be doing.
DeleteWow! It seems like you had lots of fun running with friends. It's so great to see that you've enjoyed the run. ;)
ReplyDeleteIt is a very nice change of pace (pun intended)!
