Fall EquiNOT (WW # 164)

Ladies, I'm going to keep this short.   Suffice it to say, our summer is still raging with triple digit heat indexes.  I ran three times totaling 16 miles, which is more than last week.  Here's how that went down.

Another perfect Sunday evening spent on the lake.

Monday morning found me bright eyed and raring to go crawling out of bed to begin the week. Nothing active happened that day nor Tuesday.  I know, I know.  This has been my theme of late and I can't blame it on water skiing muscle soreness this time.  However, I will continue to blame the weather.  {Wink}

After a lot of stern talking to myself, I got up early Wednesday morning and ran 6.2 miles.  This was a strong run, although not speedy.  I needed this run.  I felt encouraged by my solid effort in our never ending summer.   Side note:  humidity causes such blurry pictures.

My second run was Friday.  It wasn't quite as strong as my prior attempt but it wasn't as horrible as it could have been either.  Winning.  I clocked 4.5 easy miles before work.   I always feel rewarded if I can catch the sunrise.

After bailing on my planned 30+ mile bike ride, I worked in the yard all day Saturday...well, until it was time to watch college football.  Roll Tide.   Which brings me to Sunday where the scorcher of my first official FALL run of this season found me seeking the shade in our neighborhood park for the final portion of my hot 5.3 mile run.  I picked up the pace a bit in the final miles and...survived.

I've been watching this little flower bloom for a while through a tiny crack in the pavement at one of my U-turn points.  It's amazing how that can happen, isn't it?  What a great lesson in perseverance.

And that's a wrap!

Do you notice little things on your runs
that provide a bit of encouragement?

Did you watch college football?  Did your team win?

Is it Fall where you live?  No no, don't tell me (ha ha)!

  1. It big time felt like fall this weekend (temps in the 40F range both mornings). Although it felt downright chilly on Saturday for my walk, those temps did feel nice for today's 20-miler. Still...I am in no hurry for fall because the Iowa winter that follows will probably be frigid. And, I LOVE college football! Unfortunately, my Iowa Hawks had a bad day on the field ;-(, but our inner-state rivals (Iowa State) did well. And, my MSU Spartans remain undefeated.

    1. It was a good day of college football for us and the kids, even though one attends a rival school. It's all good until we have to place each other. I think we may get a wee break in temps soon. My fingers are crossed.

  2. Well, my team, the Wisconsin Badgers, beat the Iowa Hawkeyes! Sorry, Kim, not sorry... :p And my Badger's rugby teams both beat MSU. It was a good day for the cheeseheads.

I didn't see anything on my run that encouraged me, but finding 2 pairs of shoes at the RRS tent sale for $50 means I'll be running for a while still. I took that as a sign.

    1. The football has been amazing so far this season. I would be very encouraged to find $50 running shoes. I keep putting off ordering Mizunos because I can't find much of a deal anywhere.

  3. I don't follow much college football, but do tend to root for Clemson here in SC. Also, NFL (go, Panthers - keep pounding!). It's still very much summer where we are, too. I ran a trail 5K yesterday and it started at 9am. Way too late for a summer race around these parts. Start those things at 7am already! So yeah, I feel you on the heat and humidity stuffs. Not fun.

    1. I watch very little pro football. I just hear some of it as the hubs watches. Fingers crossed we both get a little touch of Fall soon.

  4. Today was the first day that felt cooler for my run but it was also pouring rain! I guess we can't win. A few days ago I was wondering if summer would ever end. Hopefully it will start to cool off for your soon! And I agree, it's impossible to take good pictures when its humid (also when its dark out!).

    1. I guess the camera must actually capture some of the excessive moisture in the air. You're right. Add darkness and the shot is really doomed!

  5. Usually on my runs I only ever see trash or roadkill and then I wonder how many times will I run by that before it gets cleaned up..ha.

    1. Ha! The roadkill gets picked up quickly in my neighborhood. I assume because we have a lot of walkers. Nobody wants to smell that baking in the road.

  6. I'm anxious to see how our fall is this year. Last year we had heat well into October but yesterday for the first day of fall it was actually nice and felt a bit fall like. Hope things are a bit less humid for you this coming week! -M

    1. It's always different how fall ends up hitting us. I've skied well into ;ate October several years. But sometimes, I barely make it past Labor Day. You never know.

  7. That triple digit heat index is unreal. It's officially Fall so hopefully the South gets the memo!

    1. I'd be glad to type that sucker up, make copies and distribute it if needed. It's really worn me down this year when it comes to running.

  8. Well fall has not really arrived in DC yet and we still are slugging through the humidity and rain. I’ve totally lost my speed this summer and I’m going to find it again soon. Hang in I feel ya. Yes go Hossiers for us!

  9. Oh I hate to rub it in, Holly... but it’s 55°F and windy here! Fall indeed. Time to bust out the winter coats! That little flower is a great lesson in perseverance! And I don’t watch football but one of my brothers lived in Alabama and he said “Roll Tide” is quite a thing. The South is serious about football!

    1. I rarely need a Winter coat. In fact, I think the one I use when necessary was purchased for a trip to NYC about 10 years ago. LOL. Oh my -- Roll Tide is everything around here.

  10. It was fall in the mountains, and then warm again when I got back today. We are supposed to get t-storms tomorrow and then Tuesday is looking fantastic.

  11. Just think of how nice your winters are while we freeze our buns off & endlessly shovel! We did finally get some fall like weather after some ghastly humid weather this week -- good thing because I was getting to the end of my rope!

    1. I'm counting on it Judy. Heck, we might even get snow twice like we did last year. But, that is fine by me since it only lasts a day or two. It was 17 at one of my best races last year. I CAN'T WAIT.

  12. Ahem, Go Irish! :p
Fall arrived Thursday and I'm loving it - perfect run weather today. But I was watching ND vs. Wake Forest and the on field temperature was something like 120 Gross.

  14. Love that flower and it's lessons. I found fall weather ... in Chicago! Now, I wish I'd packed a jacket for when I'm not running.

    1. It was pretty chilly in Chicago when I went up for the marathon in 2016. I also remember seeing pretty fall yellow trees when leaving the airport in a cab. Isn't it funny what sticks with you?

  16. We've gone into fall now - it was 44 degrees feels like 41 when I went out at 9 yesterday morning and we've had a lot of wind. It was bright and sunny yesterday for the end of the run, though started in the rain. It did suddenly go, though, so it's a bit of a shock.

I mentioned one of my nice run things in yesterday's post actually: my 10-miler takes me down a long main road lined with trees and with trees in the central reservation (where the tram lines used to go). I love watching the seasons have their effect on this long, leafy road.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I'd enjoy your long, leafy road. I love to run in our neighborhood park when the yellow leaves have fallen and covered the path. There's also a certain smell associated with that -- the smell of Fall.

  17. Way to get more miles in than last week! Sorry to hear things haven't cooled down. Looks like it'll be a warmer week this week over here, in the 80s. Cool flower!

  19. Yay for getting in those miles!! It feels like fall and cooled down here this week- but my college football team lost. And I already miss summer!

  21. Fall here in Seattle has brought with it a lot of humidity, since the rains are already starting! Great work getting in those miles - I think we runners tend to be so hard on ourselves, but 16 miles is a good week!

    1. 16 miles isn't too shabby but it would have felt much better along with some cross and strength training. I was a little lazy in that regard this week.

  23. All right...I won't tell you it's fall here. But I hope your heat breaks soon! Triple digits is just too much, especially when it's almost October.

  26. IU is our team (all of our kids and all of our money) went there, and sadly, they lost - which is not too surprising. We've had a brutally hot summer in Chicago but the weather is finally starting to break. I am so looking forward to a cool, crisp midwestern fall!

  29. Still brutally hot. It will probably never be fall. I had a short mileage week due to unexpected illness. Yuck.

I always look for those bright spots of encouragement on my run. It helps so much.

The Miami Hurricanes did win this weekend! They are looking fairly decent this season, and I hope they can tighten up for some of their bigger games coming up.

  31. I feel like its finally getting nice in Florida (a little) but I also feel like I'm grasping at straws. The humidity hasn't felt that bad lately, and there's been a bit of a breeze on most of my morning runs. At this point, I'll take whatever I can get!

I love your pictures of the lake and your skiing! Such pretty sunsets! I do watch college football but my team isn't winning...the Seminoles are having a crappy season lol.
