Spooky (WW # 169)

I always appreciate a good sunrise.  It's my reward for getting up to run before work. But Thursday's was downright SPOOKY.    When the sky began to lighten, I was near our house and sprinted up the long big hill to my phone before the vibrant colors went away.  I knew they'd only last a few moments.  All of the mailboxes along the street were glowing orange.  The light felt so eerie.  And then it was gone...

After having a great 5.5 mile run on Tuesday morning [no picture -- yet it still happened] I was really disappointed in how bad this short run felt.  I wondered if I was getting sick.  My heart rate was through the roof and I developed an acute headache with earaches.  I quit around 3.1 miles.  But, the sunrise was definitely worthwhile.

Luckily, I developed no other symptoms.  But Saturday's to-do list had me too busy to participate in any of the local races or fit in a training run. Although very exciting, I admit selling our home of nearly 20 years is more stressful than I could have imagined.  I don't remember our last move being like this.  Realizing part of it is due to my quest for perfection, I'm trying to let some things go.  I'm also trying to stay focused on the end prize. Anyway, it wasn't until Sunday morning that I could fit in a long run.

Sunday's run started on the nippy side, which made it pleasant.  The goal was to run steady, whatever that pace was.  I felt really strong through mile 8, so I pushed a little harder for the last few and wrapped it up at 11.5 miles.   Later, I made a big ol' pot of Mexican Chili shamelessly served with Fritos Scoops, shredded cheese and globs of sour cream.  The college kids should stop by for a bowl on the way back to their respective campuses, which will warm my heart more than any chili could.

Instead of the half marathon I was contemplating in mid November, I may participate in the local 10 miler.  I'm sure I could finish a half, but know I wouldn't be pleased with my pace.  Suffering from lack of motivation, I certainly haven't been running as much as I should and would rather put in a few more weeks of work.  I fear a bad half marathon experience could put the proverbial nail in my can't-find-my-mojo coffin.  Plus, it's hard to make race travel plans with a yet unscheduled move looming.

And that's a wrap!

That's enough about me.  Tell me something good from your week!

Anything SPOOKY happen to you lately?

  1. That "spooky" sunrise is so.darn.beautiful. That chili...oh, that sounds delightful! It's mid-40F's here, but mucho windy, so it feels like 10F (that's an exaggeration, but not by much). We're contemplating down-sizing, but have no clue where to start or when it's gonna happen. YIKES. Procrastination is working for me right now ;-)

    1. We thought of downsizing too. If things work out, our new place will be a bit bigger. But we figured we'd have kids and grandkids wanting to come to the lake on the weekends and would need the room.

  2. That sunrise is so pretty though - I love all the colors.

I can't imagine how stressful it must be to sell a house. There is SO much involved in the process. I hope that things get easier as the process goes along.

    1. Keeping a house in viewing condition is no easy task with three dogs running around.

  3. That sunrise looks amazing! I'm sure the process of selling your house is really stressful. It's tough to focus on training when other things like that are going on!

    1. It is. When I go for a run, I think of all the other things I need to be doing.

  4. That sunrise photo is really gorgeous in a spooky way. Moving is so hard and so much work. And now you have me wanting Fritos :)

    1. The grocery store was out of the tomatoes I normally use. Unfortunately, the Fritos were the best thing about my chili. It just wasn't spicy enough.

  5. What a gorgeous sunrise!

We'd lived in our house for 15 years when we moved here. It IS very stressful, but you are stronger!

Running a 10 mile race sounds oh-so-appealing right now. The last couple of halfs I was kind of ready to be done by that point . . .

    1. Mentally, I think I can manage/pace the 10 miler better than a half right now. I liked this race when I ran it back in 2016 too.

  6. Our house needs so much work, it's overwhelming! I feel you, sistah! Hoping we'll be able to figure something out for a winter half! <3

    1. The work never ends. You think you've done everything and then find something else you need to do. There's no turning back now -- we've invested too much time in this already. LOL.

  7. I LOVED the sunrise on Thursday - it was gorgeous! A 10 mile race sounds really nice, a good way to mix up distances.

  8. I thought the sunrise today was spooky with the lighting. It definitely felt like late fall. Good luck organizing and moving. Even though I would purge a bit when I moved between apartments, I still felt like I had a ton of stuff when I moved to Colorado.

    1. I started this whole process with a huge purge. That part felt really good!

  9. Whoa, that sunrise! Not sure anything spooky has happened here but it might, as my husband's photo class assignment is "scary" ... It's certainly cooler here now, all of a sudden, causing the layers to pile on. That 10-miler sounds a good idea so as not too push it too much.

    1. I haven't had to pile on layers yet. I went with a T-shirt today instead of my usual tank top. After one mile, I regretted that decision.

  10. Moving is sooo stressful! I'm glad you didn't come down with something. That sunrise is so gorgeous. I love being outside for "magic moments" like that.

These sunrises have been amazing lately and makes me sad I am not a morning runner! -M

    1. We've always wanted to live on the lake. But we had to stay in our home and in its county until our kids graduated. They were both accepted into an excellent academic magnet high school here. Now they are at college.

  12. My spooky has happened more in my mind. We've been staying up late to watch The Haunting of Hill House so my mind is on edge. Such a good show though! Just like the sunrise - gorgeous!

  13. That's a gorgeous sunrise! I think switching to a 10-miler is a great idea and puts a lot less stress on your already busy and stressful fall.

Having adult kids stop by anytime is a bonus, and one of mine is stopping by tomorrow with his pup for us to watch for the week! :-)

    Thanks for the linkup!

  14. So glad you're not feeling sick! Every so often we just have runs that don't feel good. And we don't know why. And that sunrise picture is amazing! How did you capture such a perfect moment?

  17. That's a hella gorgeous sunrise! I can only imagine how stressful a move would be. Our neighbors had their house for sale all summer with little action but now they're scrambling because it sold on the condition they need to be out in one week. Yikes!

  18. What a pretty sunrise! We've had some spooky sunrises here, too. I love it this time of year!

  19. I am sad that I did not stay on the lake at all this summer and see any sunrises. But keep those pics coming so I can live vicariously through you.

I think you should run the half no matter what your time will be.

    1. The prior me would probably run the half anyway. I'm getting way more picky and analytical in my old age. LOL.

  20. I don't know: sunrises and chili with chips, cheese and sour cream sound phenomenal to me!

Honestly, this past week was rough. There were wonderful moments, but also so much tragedy, both personal and national. I am still struggling to shake it.

  22. That sunrise is amazing! I can't imagine the stress of moving after 20 years. We have lived in our house for 21 years. I don't know what I'll do if we ever decide to move. Just keep thinking about how worth it it's going to be (tequila helps too, Lol)! I would love to live on a lake!

  24. No spooky things for me, but I might make it to Disney Springs for Halloween! I'm curious as to what they'll have going on that evening.

I had a run like that recently...heart rate much higher than I imagined it would be and it was even cool and I felt relatively good throughout! It's weird how that happens, but unless its a pattern I try not to worry as much. Hope you find that running mojo again soon! Maybe a good 10 miler is what you need :-)
