Disney Valentine (Friday Five)

It's fabulous Friday and time for the Friday Five link-up hosted by the DC Trifecta.

We recently spent a few days at Disney World.  I confess, my husband and I love it as much as our kids. The last few times we went included running a half marathon.  Part of me was a little sad there was no race.  However, the other part enjoyed not stressing over race day while not overdoing it in the parks -- a very tricky balance to say the least.

This was our family Valentine treat.  Here are five things I loved during this trip:

# 1 -- So many yummy treats, so little time.

# 2 -- Spaceship Earth is always dazzling in the night sky.
If you need a rest, this is the ride!

# 3 -- I saw several deer while running this peaceful trail.

# 4 -- Hands down, this is the best ride EVER.
Yep, we rode five times in one day.

# 5 -- Apparently, there is a huge magnet on the back of this sign.
How else would it keep sucking me in?

I would not skip my runs because I knew there would be too much #1 and #5.  I was determined not to gain weight on this trip -- success!   I ran a total of 13 miles on the beautiful wooded trails and walked countless miles in the parks.  The best part was just spending time with My Valentines and playing Heads Up! while in line for rides and transportation.  My husband and I know our time is growing short with our teens.   This trip was special for that reason alone.

What are your Valentine plans?
Do you always run on vacation?
Have you played Heads Up!?

Thank you DC Trifecta for hosting the Friday Five!

    1. As you know, every Disney ride has a story with it...and ToT is the best all around.

    1. The trail I ran was on and between two resorts in the Fort Wilderness area. I think several of their resorts have walking/running trails. This one is just so secluded and wooded. You've never guess you were on Disney property.

  3. Love the Tower of Tower!! That's cool they have running trails there! Great job getting your runs in! I try to run or get a workout in while on vacation.

  4. Oh I loved this post for sure! I will be in Disney in 6 days and it can't come soon enough. We will be running 3 races. I too would feel weird now going to disney and not running ( like we use to in the old days..lol). What is heads up? I am assuming since there was only 3 of you playing that it wasn't the old game Heads up 7 up? I'm intrigued!

    1. Heads Up is an app on our phones. I guess it's most like charades. We had 4 people playing. You would need at least 2, but I think the more the merrier. If you are going to spend time in the parks, download this game! It's fun and helps with the wait times.

  5. I love those shortbread cookies and when we lived in England, a friend made me delicious ones. I don;t know anyone who makes good sb cookies here at home. I will be in WDW with my daughter and sister for Princess Half in just a few days and can't wait.

    1. I wish I could have run Princess but didn't check until it was too late. I had a poor planning year in 2014! I love the shortbread cookies. I bet the homemade ones were delicious!

    1. I've only been to Universal Studios once since they've put in Harry Potter and it was before they added to it. We definitely need to do that too. It doesn't take as much time as Disney.

  7. A New Balance running trail?!? What?!? That looks amazing! I'm so glad you've had such a blast; it's nice to get away and enjoy yourself a bit. I do usually run on vacation; helps keep things in perspective, gives me a little quiet/private time and burns off some of the calories I'm usually eating - ha! Great post! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

    1. Disney can be very stressful, especially during peak season. Even in Winter, the afternoons get very crowded. It helps tremendously to stay on their property.

  12. I didn't know there was a running trail at Wilderness Lodge. That would have to be beautiful!
I'm convinced that Mickey Mouse shortbread is better than regular shortbread...just like Mickey waffles.

Glad you had a great trip!

    1. Well yes, Mickey anything tastes better than regular! The trail is between the lodge and the cabins and then around cabins too. If you do the entire trail, it's 3 miles. Very nice.

  15. I have never done the Tower of Terror... definitely not my thing. We have DisneyWorld Paris 30 minutes from where we live, and I love to go with our teens and see how much they enjoy the rides, but I am getting a bit old for roller coasters !

    1. I admit, I am getting too old for coasters too. I keep those rides to a minimum. If your teens are like mine, they love Disney.

    1. My hubs is in logistics. I keep telling him he needs to work for Disney. I ran (trained) but there was no race. I couldn't get my act together in 2014 to make that happen. Their races are selling out faster than ever!
