Thinking Out Loud

Thinking-Out-Loud2

Today I'm linking up with Amanda @ Running With Spoons for Thinking Out Loud.
Please take time to visit Amanda and the other bloggers linked up on her site.

1.  Being a southerner, I was taught to say "y'all".  I've tried over the years not to, but I can't find a suitable replacement.  "You" seems much too direct especially when I AM talking to multiple people.  Can someone invent a new word?

2.  My route to work goes past a very busy Walmart.  I can't tell you how many SLOW drivers go to Walmart early in the morning.   It must be an unwritten Walmart rule.  Please, can't you wait until after rush hour?  Or, just get the heck over already!  THAT turning lane over there is for YOU.  Get in it.  Now.

3.  When you wear your bangs long (to better frame your face says the hairdresser) they stick in your eyes.  Let me tell you, by the end of the day you want to rip someone's head off.  It is simply the last straw on top of all of the other stresses of the day.  And, out comes the unfashionable barrette.

4.  I loathe elastic.  Elastic feels hideous and instantly adds an extra pouf to my lower abdomen.  I have enough pouf there already, thank you very much.  It's one reason I do not wear the typical running shorts.  The other reason is that they usually hitch up and show everyone my who-ha.  Anybody with me on this or is it just me?

5.  Why would a much older female runner (I also put myself in this category by the way) wear only a bra and no top at a race?  "Ahem, excuse me but your sagging skin is puddling over your shorts and your gravity-challenged ta-tas are banging against your hydration belt ...don't you have chafing issues?"  I've seen the same woman at several regional events.  Just wondering...

6.  I've been attempting (unsuccessfully) to start a new trend - flip flops with socks.   It started out just around the house but now I'm known to wear them to the grocery store or on other errands.  I have graduated from dark, less noticeable socks to the in-your-face white ones.  Eventually, it WILL catch on...at least that's what I tell myself.  "Ahem, excuse me but your ugly white socks and flip flops..."

Enough rambling for today.  Thanks for indulging me.  What'cha thinkin' about?

  1. I get the bangs thing. I have just gotten out a scissor and chopped them much to my hairdresser's distress. In case you're wondering, I don't wear bikinis and just a running bra.

    1. I've done that myself. I like really not having bangs at all, but my hairdresser keeps cutting these shorter pieces that drive me insane! I'm very jealous of the people who CAN wear just a bra. Oh, to be young again...

    2. those were the days... my hairdresser says bangs make you look younger. they hide the wrinkles so I guess I'm keeping the bangs.

    3. i don't know. The ponytail may win out. So much easier when you run in the mornings and need to get to work on time. :)

  2. I've sat in the chair countless times BEGGING my stylist to but my bangs shorter. Now I just grow them out. Can't stand hair in my face. I think FL is slow drivers mecca. It must be an age thing.

  3. Pittsburghers did invent a new word for "y'all" and it's not a good one. Yinz, as in "Yinz goin' Dahntahn?" spoken with the Pittsburgh accent. Stick with "y'all!"

    1. Ha! I've never heard of "yinz". I've noticed over the years that y'all seems to be spreading countrywide.

  4. Hey, I do the sock/flip flop thing all the time :) I actually wanted to knit a pair of socks that would work with flip flops... I just raised my crazy one level more then you :)
I don't get people that run in just a bra when they aren't like Olympic style body... I guess kudos for having confidence :)

    1. Hey, fellow sock-flopper! It would be awesome to have a knitted pair! I'm jealous of the people who CAN wear the bra. I've got too much jiggle.

  5. Your "y'all" is my "eh?" It's very stereotypically Canadian of me, but I can't help but say it. It just rolls off the tongue so nicely, and I haven't found anything better to replace it with lol.

  6. Not a fan of anyone running without a top, both male and female....just call me #oldladyrunner. I just never think it looks attractive. Too bad about the slow Walmart drivers.....must be all the seniors going for coffee!

    1. It's actually pretty scary to see some of these people. They look like they shouldn't be out on the roads.

  8. I am a culprit of wearing just a sports bra to races. Only if it's way hot though. And I still like to consider myself in the "young crowd" haha. I however would never wear sandals and socks together.

  9. LOL I love this! Just today this kid come to the library and his hair is super shaggy long and a very wrong shade of dyed blue. I can deal with that, but his hair/bangs were totally over both eyes, he kept flipping his head when he talked to me to give his eye a space to see. I literally said to him, so how many doors do you walk into each day. (Okay the kids a pain in my butt and for some reason thinks hanging out at the library and causing trouble is a cool thing to do??)
I just looked at me (well I thought) and I said, how can you see. He said, I see what I need to.
I will never understand kids like that and the hair in the face thing....
Oh and I 2nd the bra, or even a guy without a shirt at a race. The sagging skin ughhh... Heck I don't even like the young ones, only because I am jealous I don't have the body to rock the sports bra, LOL

    1. Ah. So that's what's wrong with today's youth. They have hair in their eyes so they've GOT to be ready to snap at any given moment. Ha!! I bet the highlight of that blue-haired kid's day is coming to the library. I am very jealous of the young girls who can wear those bras and do them justice. (Sigh)
