Easter 5k

Overalls and Masters
won insulated bottles.

I hope everyone had a lovely Easter weekend.

On Saturday morning, I decided to run a 5k just to force myself to work on speed.  The temperature was not too chilly but there was definitely a stiff cool wind.  I did OK.  As always, a 5k hurts from step one.  It felt like we ran up a gradual hill for the entire race and after checking my Gamin, I was correct.  We ran up 135 feet with a just a little downhill at the very end.

I managed to pace in the upper 8's and walked away as Masters Winner (6th female overall).  It was a very small race, but I felt pretty good about it.  Even though I certainly have work to do, my speed is not quite as slow as I expected it to be.

After a T-ball game and Thai lunch, we had our Easter celebration Saturday evening.  My teens and grandson dyed eggs.  For some reason, pink was the only color that would work in our store bought dye kit.  We hunted eggs several times.  My husband (aka The Master Griller) cooked steaks and I made spinach casserole, watergate salad, green beans, sweet potato rolls and key lime pie.  It was too much yummy food.

Sunday, I ran a "short" long easy-paced run of 7 miles.  I have a half later this month and didn't want to skip this run.  However, I waited too late and it was already extremely warm.  Where I live, we don't get much Spring and usually skip ahead to Summer.  This run zapped me good.

Several ladies seemed interested in the Running Dress I purchased at an expo recently.  I decided it was appropriate to try it out on an Easter run.  Surprisingly, I liked it very much!   The material felt great, not heavy.  It was a very windy day but the dress stayed put.  I had to figure out where to clip my iPod Shuffle but other than that, no problems.  It has a pocket in the back and although I didn't put anything in it on this run, it seemed easily accessible.

I was feeling pretty tired Sunday afternoon, something I continue to struggle with.
Thus, the rest of the day was spent relaxing in my swing.

My favorite spot in the world

Did anyone else have a race?
Did you eat too much Easter food?

  2. Congrats on the win! That's awesome! I can't remember the last time I raced a 5k. Part of me thinks that it is the hardest distance! All out. Great job!

    1. It feels like the hardest distance to me. It's a good way to work on speed.

    2. I think it will! I've stored water in my mailbox, too. I thought about storing my falling off hydration pack in my mailbox this week, but I don't know what my early arriving mail carrier would have thought about that.

    3. I always use my mailbox for long runs which are typically on Sunday. No mail worries!

  5. Congrats on a great race! That's a nice prize :) Uphill is tough, the gradual climbs can be really hard, that's what run a lot around here and they zap me.
I love your dress, I saw those at the Disney expo -very cute!
    Booo, for heat already.

    1. My regular route is pretty hilly. I'm used to that and enjoy the "downs". Yeah, that dress was an impulse buy. I'm glad I liked it because it was a little pricy. Cool running is OVER.

  6. congrats on your finish! I love the dress and I haven't seen anything like that before? does it have built in shorts or do you have to wear those separate- super cute lady!

    1. You have to wear your own shorts or running undies underneath. The material is not clingy either. It floats away. Gypsie Runner.

    1. Running at that pace would be heavenly because they typically hurt. ALOT.

  9. I didn't race this weekend, but my husband and I ran in an organized trail run put on by our local running store. It was so fun even if I bit the dust once! At the end we got to meet Mike Wardian!

  11. H, I did have a race this weekend and it was great! I'm so glad you jumped into the 5K; I love to hate them - ha! I think they are a great measure of fitness, though, and for that I am grateful. So glad to hear you had a nice Easter and thanks so much for linking up with the blog today!

  12. I wouldn't think something at 3.1 miles would hurt but a 5k does. They can be fun afterwards but geez, the distance seems to crawl by.

    1. You are right. They do seem to last forever. A half doesn't, but that's because I allow myself to run comfortable for part of it. I can enjoy it, at least for a while.

  13. Congrats on placing in your 5K! An insulated water bottle is a pretty cool (no pun intended) award. I love the run dress!

    1. Thanks. I hope it is something I can use in my mailbox that will keep my drink cool. I will definitely wear the dress in a warm 5k, not sure about longer distances.

    1. My speed was better in years that I ran many 5ks. So, I agree!

  17. Congratulations on your Master's championship!!! WOO HOO!!! 5Ks are the worst for me. I think they are much harder than races of longer distances because of the super-fast pace. There is so little room for error over 3.1 miles, you know? I've got a 5K PR from over 12 years ago that I still haven't been able to break to this day. UGH.

LOVE that dress! So glad to hear that it worked well for you on your run!!!

    1. I've always said 5k is the hardest. I haven't PR at the 5k in a few years myself. I'm just happy the dress impulse wasn't a total waste. I will get some use out of it.
