Runfessions (April 2015 Edition)

Alright, my general runfession is that I've been a slacker this month.  Yes, I've run two half marathons since my last runfession and a couple of 5ks too.  But, the in between was um...shall we say...less than stellar.  {Am I recovering or tapering?  I forget!}

I didn't eat as healthy as I usually do.  I ate too many of these, just Hoovered them right up.
That's double dipped chocolate on the left - enough said - and the key lime is delish!

For convenience, we've eaten so much Mexican food this month that I just can't for a while.
Naturally, that comes with too many of these.

I'm horrible at this.  It's a family curse.
I continue to struggle with FATIGUE.

I am not walking these cuties nearly as much as I should.
It's partly due to rain and partly due to my own laziness fatigue.

Well, Sunday's humidity-fest of a half marathon kicked my tail, but good (or butt bad?).
It's pretty humbling to know that #36 affected me more than any other.
Guess what?  I passed up this Saturday's half.  Me...ME!   Eek! -- Who am I?

Here's to May being a better month.  I've got a not-yet-selected marathon on the horizon.  Maybe two...I am a bit obsessive you know.  But, I'm excited to get back to a regular running schedule.  A Routine.  After all, being caught between constant taper and recovery is too confusing!

What would you like to runfess?

  1. Those pecans look divine. Good thing they aren't around here. I suspect I'd be the same way if I were racing every weekend. Lots and lots of taper. Here's to May! Thanks for linking up!

    1. Nuts are supposed to be good for you, right? The good cholesterol, and all that...

  2. I've stopped drinking margaritas....I don't know what has happened to my sweet tooth, but it's gone! Good thing, I think!

  4. I love your idea of slacking, ha! And I love that you are possibly considering two marathons! Can't wait to hear what you decide. Crazy that you are not running a half this weekend, ha ha! Enjoy whatever you end up doing.

    1. After running in the 100% humidity again this morning, it's going to be all I can do to train for one. HA! I'm so very glad I made the call not to run the half. It stormed at the start time.

  5. I can't believe you passed up a half that's close to you. Course I sure don't blame you, you have been on the move these last few months!!!! I too have been a slacker in my diet and well a pesky 5lbs has found me and I'm trying so hard to get it to leave! I'm actually going into withdrawals, half marathon withdrawals lol. It's been 5 weeks eeeek!

    1. It was storming this morning in Auburn. I'm so glad I decided not to run. The 5k here was so humid as the rain had just stopped. I gained a couple of pounds too. Boo!

  6. Love Mexican food too, but after being put on a bland diet earlier this week after food poisoning, I am struggling to find anything I can eat that I like. Don't worry about the lack of interest in running. We all go through training slumps....no big deal!

  7. I think you made a smart decision passing up that half. You know when you're not feeling up for a race. There's no reason to torture yourself or burn yourself out physically or mentally. There will always be another race!!!

I LOVE guacamole and avocados in general. I could eat avocados all day long!!!

    1. It's really gotten too warm here. I definitely did not want a repeat of last week. That one really took it out of me. Just give me sour cream...anything underneath will do.

  8. Between my many races and work schedule I am struggling with getting enough sleep as well. I will soon be on vacation for two wks. So i will definitely be able to catch up on my sleep.

    1. Here I certainly don't need warmer weather but I probably need that positive attitude, for sure.

  10. Love that your always so honest! I am finishing up a bout of Pnemonia and it zapped me real good the past few weeks, I haven't run in 3 weeks, that is my Runession... I am so hoping that changes by next week though!!

    1. I knew you had been sick but didn't know it was Pneumonia. You don't need to run until you can kick that to the curb. I hope you are feeling better very soon.

  13. Doesn't seem like slacking to me! I enjoyed racing less at the beginning of this year and just enjoy running wherever I am. I know what you mean about the constant tapering/recovering when the races are all back to back. Also, don't blame yourself for the excessive margs...I think I heard before (in my own head) that tequila is great for recovery!

    1. I love all the races, but at some point (aka when it's warm) you gotta say "when". You shouldn't have told me that recovery tip...LOL!

  14. Bingo...nail on the head. I am so hard on myself. I WILL share that marathon with you. Do you think you are up to trying again? You seem to be running awesome and hitting your fitness goals.
