Where I Run

It's A Beautiful Day In This Neighborhood...
A Beautiful Day For A Neighbor...

I run in my neighborhood.  Every Run.  I don't drive anywhere for meet ups.  Why would I?  It's so quiet here and shady too.  I'm out on the streets on weekdays before my little world even wakes up.  This is standing in front of my mailbox where I keep my supplies.  During the week, that's usually just a water bottle...but so much more on the weekends.  My runs starts by going up this hill.

Ahhh, this is my favorite section of road.  It's a 1/2 mile of a very gentle downhill grade.  It's really the only downhill section I have.  I love doing my speed work here.

We're lucky to have a park with a running/walking trail.  The mileage is a little off.  Three laps is more than one mile.  I ran countless laps here training for my first half marathon.  Yes, I would literally lose count.

Although the trail is flat, I don't run in the park much nowadays.  I can feel more breeze in the streets.  Occasionally, I'll finish a hot run with a few laps here because I can always find shade and there is a water fountain.  I have to be careful of the gnats that swarm around the creek running along one side.  {Do I really need to inhale any protein today?}  My favorite time to run in the park is in the fall.  The path is really pretty with yellow leaves scattered about.

This is the hill leading back to my house...the biggest one we have.  If I need to loop by the mailbox for supplies (aka summertime), I've got to run THE HILL.  You'd think I'd be good at it by now.

So, that's where I run.  It's nothing fancy.  But, it sure is convenient and quiet.  Most importantly, it gets the job done.

Do you run in your neighborhood?

  1. Unfortunately I live in a cul de sac, so unless I want to keep running in circles, I have to drive to a run...lol. I don't mind though because we have some really lovely paths right down the road.

    1. LOL. That strikes me as funny...you running around and around in circles! Your neighbors would really be worried about you.

  2. You have nice options for your neighborhood. I have a good 4-5 mile loop and a good 7-9 mile loop, but I do drive for weekend long runs for different scenery.

    1. It's good to have options! If I didn't run so early, maybe I would do something different.

  3. Despite not working, I'm still under time constraints because of Chester. So yes, I run in my neighborhood a LOT. I'd really rather not - there's no water feature, no patk, & it's not very large. And I walk here everyday with the dogs. And I like variety!

    1. I think my choice has a lot to do with time constraints! I change directions sometimes, or pick different streets I don't normally run to get a little variety. There is a very rural road behind our neighborhood (with donkeys and sheep) that'll I'll take sometime too.

  4. I can also cut across the creek and run on a very rural road behind our neighborhood. There are sheep, donkeys, and peacocks to see! It gives me a little something different.

  5. That's nice that you have a park with a trail in your neighborhood :) It looks really pretty though the gnats sound unpleasant. I had a problem running in my neighborhood when I started running because the sidewalks are slanted and it hurt my knees. So I got in the habit of driving to local parks for most of my runs and I still do that.

    1. Ooh...those sidewalks are rough on the body. There is so little traffic, I run in the street. I think I saw one car this morning on my 5 a.m. 4 mile run. I'm very lucky in that regard.

  6. I don't even LIVE in a neighborhood :)
I would love that little paved trail

    1. I hope you have a nice park or trail that's not too far of a drive!

  7. Gorgeous. I would love to live in your 'hood! I travel to run with friends and change scenery but usually only once a week for long runs.

    1. It's just so quiet and peaceful. My other options would be much worse so I stick close to home!

  8. I drive to my gym. Aside from sidewalks, my current neighborhood doesn't have any running paths.

    1. I'm not a fan of sidewalks, so I'd opt for the gym as well. For years, I ran on my lunch break at the Y. I should seriously consider that now as hot as it is.

  9. I run mostly around where I live but there is a lot of variety I can build in. Thank gosh, because after 5 times around the "pond / lake" near by (2,5 km), I need something to shake things up.

    1. I get that! I'll add the rural road behind the park sometimes (especially on a really long run) to get variety. I also run in a different direction or choose different streets in the hood.

  10. I run in my neighborhood, which literally leads to an awesome trail that I can take for miles! It's great to always have that available but I like to mix things up too!

    1. That is really nice! I'd like the option to take a trail for miles.

  11. I love to run in the park behind my house, but if it's dark, I run in my neighborhood and sometimes my mailbox is for my running gear, too. You've got a great place to run!

    1. It works for me. I'm usually so crunched for time, I can't imagine having to go anywhere to run.

  12. Only when I have like before work. My neighborhood is boring and I like variety. So I drive to do my after work and weekend runs.

    1. I can't imagine even running after work. LOL. I'm toast. Years ago, I ran at lunch at the Y. You just do whatever works at the time.

  13. I love that you have a path near your house and that it tells you how many laps equals a mile!! I don't like to do math when I run!!

    1. Before I got a GPS watch, the math would beat me up. I'd get so tired and confused!

  14. Its nice that you can just go out your door and run! Looks like you have some nice running routes nearby too!

    1. It saves so much time. I can't imagine factoring in driving time for a weekday run. I'm already up with the birds.

  15. I run just across from my neighborhood, in another one ha! On the other side of where I live there's a huge bike lane that I take advantage of, mostly because there's a lot of parked cars on the street, so there's not too a whole lot of room to scoot over if a car is coming. I run on canals close by sometimes as well. There's also a path nearby, but it's all concrete and winds a lot, so I tend to steer clear of it. I rarely travel to go running though. I love being able to come home right away and get breakfast started ;).

    1. It's so convenient just to go right from your own door. I can add a road that's behind my neighborhood for variety and extra miles for those really long runs. I run in the bike lane when we go to the beach. I love it! The bikers probably don't like it though. LOL. But, I always move over for them.

  18. Looks like you have a nice neighborhood and great that you have a park closeby! I do run on the paths in my neighborhood and I am also close enough to run on the paths to the D&R Canal towpath trail! I feel pretty lucky to have the trail so close because it is great for half marathon training. It goes on forever, so it would also be great for marathon training (if I ever commit to one). :)

  19. Awesome that you have such a nice place to run! I'm lucky too in that I live so close to a trail. Unfortunately, I have to stay off neighborhood city streets when I run because guys (on the street and driving by in cars) will say rude things to me (even at 5 a.m., even in the sub-zero weather we had last year when I was bundled up), so I mainly just keep to my trail. On weekends I go other places, but I love my regular route!

    1. It's just really convenient to step out of the door and go run. And, I don't have to worry about traffic. Thankfully, our neighborhood is closed off to everything else, so no cutting through.

  20. Looks like a lovely neighborhood to run in and I love that you have a trail loop there! I do run in my neighborhood, but I love to change things up, so I try different routes and trails from time to time. But you're right, you can't beat the convenience of a neighborhood run! Thanks for linking up!
