That Time of the Month (August)

http://hohoruns.blogspot.comIt's That Time of the Month!

Are you...

Annoyed?
Irritated?
Ticked Off?
At Your Wit's End?

I'm co-hosting this monthly link up with my good friend Wendy @ Taking The Long Way Home.   (Please follow Wendy's journey as she trains to BQ at the Chicago Marathon!)  This link gives you an opportunity to air your grievances!  Get those annoying things off your chest.  We hope you will join us.  The link up will stay open for a week.  You still have plenty of time to join in!  (See rules here.)

It's Annoying...

As you may know I mostly run in my neighborhood, which in itself provides quite a few annoyances.  But today, I'll focus on some of the odd things I've seen in the streets.  I passed by Coat Hanger House for about a year.  No lie.  I know they took their garbage out to the curb twice a week.  They didn't see the coat hanger?  What, pray tell, made them bend over after that length of time to pick it up?  By that point it was a permanent fixture, like a fountain or statue.  Same deal for Toilet Brush House (eww!).  And, I can't forget about my current favorite Oversized Q-Tip House.  That thing (whatever it really is) is less than 2 feet away from their mailbox.  Exactly who do they expect to pick that up?  I truly appreciate that Dead Snake House removes their items fairly quickly.

It's Annoying...

I don't like to be up-sold.  You know what?  If I need something I'll ask about it!  There are certain places I expect to be hit...vitamin shop, restaurant, makeup counter, even the dude that comes by our office to wash cars {hey--you need a wax job today!}.  But, up-selling at the eye doctor?  Stop right there!  I've come in for my yearly checkup.  You've already told me everything was great.  But now I have to hear you blabber on about supplements, blue lenses, tear duct plugs, dry eye remedies, and special sunglasses.  No, just no.

It's Annoying...

On an easy short run this week, I was graced with a side stitch from H E double L.  I could not relieve it no matter what I tried.  I usually don't get these.  Normally any pain I might have is located in my shoulder (because I need to burp forcefully and loudly -- keeping it real).  This was low in my abdomen and very painful.  I ate the typical half a yogurt before my run.  No clue.  It was frustrating and annoying.

It's Annoying...

Well---after avoiding the grocery store on Wednesdays like the plague for years, I've finally accepted the fact they are going to give me the senior discount whether I deserve it or not.  {Heavy Sigh}  Ms. Checker began hurting my feelings in my mid 40s (did I really look 15 years older then?), so I've decided I'm going to embrace it.  I'm closer to the correct age now anyway.  Apparently the fact that my brain, spirit, heart and soul all think I'm 33 is not evident to Ms. Checker.  {Heavy Sigh}  Yep, I'm going in now on Wednesdays...ON PURPOSE.  A 5% savings adds up in my can't-get-enough-to-eat-teenage-boys world.  Now, watch her card me!

Tell me, what's annoying you?

  1. I can't wait til I get the senior discount at the movies; not quite there yet. Hmmm, my husband turns 55 this yr- maybe? I've got another couple of years!

Recently the UPS guy had a delivery that required signing & you had to be over 21. He made some kind of joke, in a nice way. I just raised an eyebrow at him. I know dyeing your hair gray is in right now, but I came by mine naturally.

I'll be joining in the fun later. My post is almost ready to go, but first I have to run 9 miles & refuel. :)

    1. People are dying their hair gray? What? You mean I don't have to color mine this weekend? The first time I was asked about "the discount" I thought she meant for a single mom or low income or something. LOL. I hope you had a nice 9 mile run and your knee is better.

  2. I no longer go to the eye doc that tried to sell me the whole place plus China. Such a ripoff artist too. I haven't been there since 2010 and they still send texts and crap in the mail. I guess just getting the discount is better than being asked if you qualify....I say go with it.

    1. She did ask me way back when. I am so oblivious to my age, I thought she meant for being a single Mother or on some type of assistance. A girl had just checked out in front of me using one of those cards. LOL!

  3. I need to go to the dermatologist but when you leave they send you through the "boutique" with a list of suggested products that you need. It's high pressure and I hate it!

    1. That's what they do when I get a facial at the spa. "Here's the list of products you need." "We are running a special today on blah blah blah." I don't like it anywhere, anytime.

  4. Ups-elling at the dr? Ew! We ended up at a "senior" night at the movies over Christmas break. We couldn't figure out why the ticket was so cheap or why the audience was of a certain age!

    1. I think any type of up-selling at a doctor's office is wrong. I wouldn't mind the senior night at the movies. It's probably a better experience to watch the movie with people of a certain age! At least they stay seated and follow the rules?

  5. You made me smile on the MS Checker an hey look at it this way the extra money you save an go to entry fees, or new shoes or a massage you see where I'm going lol! Have a great day.

    1. I guess $10 is $10. If I was the appropriate age, I would actually think it should be more than 5%. A massage sounds wonderful. It's been such a long time!

  6. Funny thing I saw while running yesterday: a mom and a little kid in her lap driving and coming towards me on the street. Just glad the 6 year old didn't hit me!

    1. That would be scary! I haven't seen anything like that. Sometimes I'll see dogs that look like they are driving.

  7. It drives me nots when people don't pick up crap in front of their houses, especially when it's edible garbage my dog wants to eat. I never know there was a senior discount at the grocery store. Woohoo! Something to look forward to! It's funny, my husband and I frequently say how we think we're 23.

    1. They roll the garbage cans out and place it right next to whatever needs to be picked up. People just don't seem to care. I don't know why 33 -- I liked that age I guess.

  8. There's a house that I run past often that obviously doesn't bag their garbage because after every garbage day there's more of their crap on the ground and they NEVER pick it up! It eventually gets blown away or carried off by critters or something, but there is ALWAYS trash in their yard by the road. I hate that! And BTW I linked up but then noticed the rule about no foul language, so delete me if you want to. :)

    1. Argh! I think the garbage needs to be in a bag too. Just this week, I was running by a house and saw a man holding what looked to be 2 restroom trash cans. He opened the can out at the street and dumped the contents. The paper, etc. was fluttering everywhere. (No worries!)

  9. As long as you feel 33 it's all good, 5% savings does add up! Sorry to hear about your side stitch!

    1. I hope I can always continue to feel 33. LOL. It might shift up though...43, 53, etc.

  10. I think it is also annoying when I am out on a run and see. People who have their Christmas light still up. There is even a house with them up and a Halloween decoration in the yard. It is summer. C'mon people. So annoying!

    1. Oh yes, that's irritating too! The house with Halloween decor fits right in about now. It's annoying how stores start putting decorations up months before they should.

  11. I read this over the weekend but cannot comment on your blog from my cell phone- the captcha thing stops me! So I came back :) I switched dentists because of the upselling, I know how you feel! I hate stuff in the yard- tacky decorations really bother me, you know those plastic things, I tell myself to each as own but UGGGG :)

    1. I had no idea my captcha was on! Thanks - I fixed it. Upselling at the dentist is so wrong. I'm not a fan of plastic either. Anything made of plastic seems to fade. And then it's extra annoying!

  12. I couldn't agree with you more on the painful upselling. Why won't these folks take NO for an answer!?!?!? And it is so annoying when you can get through the long runs with relatively minimal issue, but then experience cramps and other nagging ailments during the short runs. What gives!?!?!?

    1. I suppose some companies have their employees working on commission but that doesn't keep it from still being very annoying. Running always surprises me. You think you'll just go out for a easy, pleasant, short run -- oh, no no no!

  13. My annoyance happened this weekend at Barnes and Noble. I still get some hard copy books and their website said this store had the book in stock, but I couldn't find it anywhere. And there was no one on the floor to help. Seriously? I'll go to Amazon and look, it's in stock!

    1. Book stores are such pleasant places to visit. You can browse around, sit and read, drink some coffee. But, it's just getting easier to Amazon Prime whatever you need. I predict they will become a thing of the past.

  14. Up-selling is everywhere. Does it work? Because why else would they keep doing it? It is very frustrating to think you are going out for an easy peasy short run and get slammed with something! And then you worry and fret about an upcoming really long run...and nothing happens.
