My Year in Bling

This was the year I was going to add a beautiful marathon medal to my collection.  I spent months training in the heat for the Chicago Marathon which I then had to DNS.  From late September until now I've been busy rehabbing a stress fracture and lingering foot neuroma.

I managed to run 18 races this year, but that's much lower than prior years.

Half Marathons = 8

I was thrilled to place in two half marathons!

Admittedly, a little freaky....
The other races:

1) 10k     ** 1st in Age Group

1) 7 Miler Virtual

1) 8k

1) 4 Miler  ** 1st in Age Group

6) 5ks:

**  3rd Overall Female
**  Masters Win
**  Grand Masters Win
**  3rd in Age Group (Twice)

A hand carved award from a 5k
trail run at a nature preserve.

What makes a medal extra special for you?

Thanks to the wonderful hosts of Tuesday on the Run:

Patty @ My no-guilt life!
Marcia @ Marcia's Healthy Slice

  1. Congrats on all your wins! That is awesome! I know the feeling of thinking the year is going to be THE year to run 26.2 and then not being able too. That happened to me at Big Sur. But I know. That Disney was a great first 26.2 for me and it will be for you too!

  5. We just have to look at it like this, there is a reason you got hurt. It is what it is and we don't have control over it. You have accomplished so much even with you being out for those months, a lot more than most. You got an amazing amount of cross training, met new people through your injury, formed friendships that would not have come about without it. Am I not right? Disney was just meant to be "OUR" first! BTW in 12 Days we will be running in our marathon! :)

  8. My most special medals are connected to what the race experience was like - the location, the vacation, the fun I had. You ran 18 races? I'm impressed!

    1. I agree with that. It's the experiencing more than anything else that makes a great race. The medal is just icing on the cake.

I enjoyed some success with AG awards in 2015, but my biggest accomplishment was finishing Boston after food poisoning. Hope to see you next week in FL

  24. This year in bling is such a neat concept! I love that little 5K award - it's neat. My husband and I ran a race at The Biltmore in North Carolina in 2014 and their finisher's medals were wooden medals that had been carved by the local high school's wood shop class. Very neat! They are very intricate and have a lot of detail on them.

  25. I love the year in bling idea. I've got one of those bobble heads from the CCAD 5K. I hate I missed it this year. Mom and I ran a half that weekend. I also love the hand carved hummingbird one. Is it from from the Critter Crawl? Good luck in 2016! Hope to see you at a local race sometime.

    1. CCAD was muggy and rainy this year and hardly anyone came. That's how I placed third overall. LOL. Yes, the bird is from Critter Crawl. I like that race but it usually interferes with Mercedes or some other half. I'm sure we'll run into each other this year.
