Coffee Talk (May)

Wasting Away Again...
Welcome to Coffee Talk

It's a beautiful Mother's Day weekend here in the deep south.  I'm drinking coffee out of my new Margaritaville mug.  [Ahh.  If only I was sitting on their deck chillin' and listening to music. I digress...]  My coffee is Dark Magic with peppermint mocha creamer.  Let's settle in and chat.

Over Coffee...

You'd hear that I did at least get our middle son's high school graduation announcements mailed. But that's all.  Oh yes, the graduation ceremony is in 10 days.  Should I get busy with other plans?

Over Coffee...

I'd admit how I've had the worst case of DOMS after running the downhill Tear Drop Half Marathon.  I've done other downhill races and fully expected the muscle soreness in my quads.   But, Holy Smokes I did not expect the thrashing my calves received.   It's been a pretty humbling experience, to say the least. I would still repeat that race in a heartbeat!

Over Coffee...

I'd tell you how when it gets warm like it is here already, I have the overwhelming urge to be around water!  The beach, the lake, or the pool--it really doesn't matter.  One of my favorite spots to chill is in my own back porch swing.  It's where I intend to be most of this weekend.  Very soon, perhaps just days even, I'll be (squeal) water skiing (squeal)

PoPo watches the sky so I don't have to.  Do you see the ominous storm behind me?

Over Coffee...

I'd ask you what plans you have for Mothers Day.  After nearly 8 years, I still miss my Mother and would give anything for a visit and chat.  She was a deeply religious woman.  So, when she got really mad about something and felt the urge to curse she had a favorite saying: "Don't make me say my Sunday School lesson!"

Over Coffee...

I'd tell you how the local Run for a Mom 5k is today.  I really wanted to participate to work on my speed since the weather is ideal.  However, even though my DOMS is now gone I have an odd discomfort in my "good" foot.  I'm doing the prudent thing and skipping this race.  {Don't make me say my Sunday School lesson!}

What would you tell me over coffee?

Tell me something about your Mother!

  1. It's funny how some races and runs can just kick your butt and other don't. I want to be outside more too but it's been rainy and cold for 2 weeks so unusual for here. Hope you have a great mother's day thanks for joining for coffee!

  3. I'd tell you that I better get to waterski this summer! That picture of you gave me serious FOMO!!!

I had some serious quad pain after Big Sur and it was kind of funny when I had to hike down those big hills in Yosemite. Actually, even getting out of the car was a challenge!

    1. I hope you do too. Hey, you can come see me and we'll make it happen! We'll ski all weekend and have such serious DOMS it'll make our heads spin! LOL. Steps were the worst! I was so happy I didn't have at any work. I didn't want to look pitiful in front of my co-workers.

  4. My mom is the most positive, upbeat person on earth. I don't think I have ever heard any negativity come out of her mouth ! And I forget every year that it is Mother's Day in the US, because in France it is later in the month.

Have a great weekend ! hope your foot will be better.

    1. It is soon. School continues for a while after that. I spent a lot of time in that swing this weekend and enjoyed every moment.

  6. I'm very jelly of your warm temps! Sitting in a back porch swing sounds like an ideal way to lounge. It continues to be cold and rainy here - I'm feeling very sun-deprived!

Sounds like a wise choice on passing on your 5K - Hope you foot feels better!

  7. Hearing about your calf muscles being sore from your down hill race makes me think about a trip to Gatlinburg many years ago. Like before I ran or was very active. We stayed in a cabin way up a hill. I had this bright idea we'd walk the next morning down the hill and back up. What the heck was I thinking?? I could not hardly walk the rest of the trip because of it.

    1. Ha! Yeah I've done stuff like that. You think it's such an easy and innocent activity until the next day.

  8. I'm sorry your other foot is bothering you. Why won't our bodies get with the program, hmm?

Even though today was nice, the northeast is still pretty much waiting for spring to really arrive. :(

My mom, my grandma -- a favorite saying for anytime anything was bothering you -- this too shall pass. And anything you busy, it's use it in good health. We're going out for brunch tomorrow with my sister, too.

  10. I so want that mug! That water ski photo gives me FOMO. But I'm afraid my surgically repaired ankle will have nothing of it.

After my half in March which had a lots of downhill, I had DOMs. Luckily it went away quickly and I did race the next weekend.

    Hope you feel better soon.

    Happy Mother's Day!!!!

    1. I have a surgically repaired tendon in my ankle. Thankfully, skiing never bothered it. It may be the type of constricting bindings I use. My feet usually go to sleep from lack of movement.

  11. That was a serious downhill race - I'm not surprised you're still feeling it -- have you tried a massage? We're taking my Mom up to visit my son tomorrow - these days she gets more info out of my kids than I do. ;-)
