S - CHICAGO MARATHON
Hello, Chicago!! |
Hi, everyone. There's not much to say about this last week leading up to the marathon. It was taper time. I acted crazy. When this goes live, I will have completed the Chicago Marathon. My phone doesn't edit blogger well, especially pictures so you'll have to wait. No doubt I'll have several lengthy posts about my experience in the coming weeks {wink}.
RACE: I had a hard and nasty spill during mile 12. I literally went flying and landed on my hands, knees and one elbow. Blood was gushing from both kneecaps and luckily there was a medical tent just ahead. I was shaken up pretty badly but happy nothing was broken. After coming upon a man with diarrhea all over his shorts, I realize my fall probably wasn't the worse thing that could happen. I finished in 4:44:30 which is a PR of 23 minutes (if you count the foot-fracture marathon).

I appreciate all of the well wishes before this race.
There were a lot of races this weekend. Tell me all about it!
Owie! I can't wait to hear the whole story. It's such a big running month I'm hosting a race recap link up, so when you get yours done ... :-)
ReplyDeleteCongrats! You are a trooper. And yes, who has time for diarrhea? Not a runner!
ReplyDeleteI miss you already!
O my goodness! What caused your fall? Last year I was watching the NYC marathon and a gal fell right in the beginning and did a face plant. Glad nothing was broken. Can't wait to hear more about the race. Did you see Lacey? -M
ReplyDeleteWOot!!!! The fall had to be disheartening, but look at you! You got back up, dusted off, and finished like a boss ;-) Congrats!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, congrats!!! I am so glad you didnt get really hurt and were able to finish. Awesome job and congrats on the PR!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry bout the fall -- I had a spectacular fall on a long run once -- actually, two falls -- but it wasn't a race or a marathon!
ReplyDeleteYou're a determined mama & I hope it's nothing too serious.
I've some big falls - 2 during races (5ks) and one right before my last half. I am very clumsy. I have lots of scars on my knees.
ReplyDeletebut finished! You are tough!!
Running another???
I forgot. I had a half marathon PR!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh my! I'm dying to hear the "rest of the story"!! So glad that you are ok and were able to finish...and finish you did!! How impressive that you PR'd even with the time it must've taken to bandage you up!! Your mantra has come full circle....YOU CAN DO HARD THINGS!
ReplyDeleteOh no, I'm so glad you didn't hurt yourself when you fell, but I agree, I'd rather have blood gushing from my knees than diarrhea dripping from my shorts. Can't wait to read your recaps!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the linkup!
Congratulations! And a new PR despite the spill! You weren't the only one - I was watching it on TV and one of the elite men took a super man flying fall. Can't wait for more details, but what a major victory! You rest and revel in what you accomplished today marathon woman :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the huge PR and finishing the marathon! You are awesome! Falls during races are no fun. I once fell during mile 1 of a half and twisted my ankle...somehow that race is still my PR! Can't wait to hear more about the race!
ReplyDeleteYou are the very essence of grace in the face of adversity. I'll never forget your brilliant smile when we saw you at 13. All you can do is fall back on your sense of humor and forge ahead and you did exactly that. Rest well my friend, cannot wait to see you again in December!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. What a huge accomplishment !
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to read all about it. Sorry about your fall... hope it wasn't serious...

I am so proud of you!!!!
*hugs*
Holly, you are incredible. Kudos to you for getting it together and finishing strong after what could have been a DNF for so many. It was wonderful to meet you and if Tom had not been there I would have crashed your afternoon boat tour. So glad you had a great weekend and the accident was just a blip on your radar. Great PR too!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear that you fell and so glad there was an aid tent nearby! Amazing that you fell and still PR'd. Congrats!! So great meeting you too!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that you fell that is the worse, well I am glad you finished the race. Congrats on your PR.
ReplyDeleteHoHo! Huge Congrats on a great marathon plus a PR, despite that nasty fall! You would have been even faster had you not fallen. I have to give you lots of credit for finishing despite that kind of pain. I fell during a run 4 years and broke both my knees open. There was no way I could have run any further - how in the world did you continue to run for another 14.2 miles? You are AMAZING and such a tough cookie!!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats!!!!!! You went, you ran, you DID it!!!!
