Organized Fun?

Well I can't say I'm organized enough to have a race recap ready for my last half marathon in Panama City Beach.  Whew!  My head is still spinning.  Unfortunately, I can't say I'm nearly as organized in general as I once was either.

I was organized enough to pull off a blogger friends, half marathon, long weekend racecation -- squeezing eight women into a small beach cottage with only two bathrooms. [I so did it, PoPo!]  I warned them...it would be more of a Ragnar Relay, paper plate, self serve type of event.  At least we all had a bed, albeit some a little small and perhaps a tad uncomfortable.  😉

Even if you feel you're completely organized, unforeseen circumstances are going to pop up.  You can't organize "life".  Did organization keep me from getting stuck in the sand in my own driveway and being forced to shovel myself out just minutes before the first girls arrived?  Uh...no.    {Talk about cardio!}

Could I organize away the insidious amount of sand spurs that were tracked into the house due to the construction next door, which also caused the aforementioned driveway debacle?  Uh...no.    Rest assured, the girls are all now experts in sand spur extraction in the most delicate of places.  I think we should play a game:  Who can find a sand spur in the oddest place?  Because trust me, they'll find them for months to come.

No organization found here...

Did we have enough toilet paper?  Yep!  Coffee?  Most definitely!  Did I get everyone to the race on time? Sure did!  Did I organize eating at the best doughnut stand in the country?  Oh yeah, I'm so taking full credit for that one.  Did we frolic on the World's Most Beautiful Beaches?  Absolutely.

Can you organize fun?

You plan
You make lists
You pack (and pack and pack)
You shop
You do the best you can

But then...

You breathe deep
You cross your fingers
You just wing it
You go with the flow

You allow the fun to happen.

Do you consider yourself an organized person?

Would you rather just wing it?

  5. We can organize as much as possible, but it's how you manage it when things don't go according to plan that builds character :) And you guys demonstrated a ton of great character! You may have to turn it into an annual thing!

  9. You had the donut to end all donuts. I've never seen anything quite like that before! I've got to show it to the family the next time we visit. I had such a fantastic time with you. We WILL get together again, no doubt.

    1. I felt I was organized initially. But then, I just let it happen. Controlled chaos may be the better term. LOL.

    1. The first time I went to a "big city" without PoPo, his advice to me was -- Don't get arrested! LOL. What is it that he thinks I would do????

  15. I'm very organized about most things, but not all...

You've inspired me with the girls race weekend idea. I've started talking to a few of my running friends about next year's OBX Marathon and Half just two days before I turn 60. If it works out, I'll invite them to our beach house for a three day getaway and they can choose to run either the half or full.

Thank you for linking up! It's much appreciated even if I'm a week late in commenting! :-)
