My Week At A Glance:

T     Ran 6 Easy
W   Ran 5 Easy

F     Rest
S     Ran 21

Total = 47 Miles

And WHOOT...There It Is (are you singing the song too?).  This was my last high mileage week before the Disney Marathon.  Since I added an extra day of running into my weekly schedule this go 'round, I'm really looking forward to taper.  I say that now, but also know I'll be all cranky-pants after a few days.  The holidays will be a nice and stressful welcomed distraction though.  Then it's off to the Mouse's House.

Thursday's run started with an incredible full moon....

and ended with an spectacular sunrise.

My last long run (21 miles) of this training cycle deserved a celebratory jump.  I even impressed myself with the air I got on this one.

I spent most of the weekend trying to get organized for Christmas.  There was candy making, grocery shopping, cleaning, gift wrapping, and finally a little shopping simply had to be done in an actual store. Yes, I was tortured for over 90 minutes -- complete with crying children and outrageous tantrums {mine, naturally 😉}.  Oh how I love my on-line shopping!

A sampling of the candy we made (a food photographer I am not)...

It was a very productive week both from a marathon training and holiday preparedness standpoint.  But I admit powering through with copious amounts of coffee!  And non-stop holiday music.  And food.  And...

That's a wrap!

How is your holiday preparedness?

Do you have a cookie, candy making, or other food tradition?

  1. I have done some holiday baking and candy-making...and my big family gathering got cancelled for today (Sunday) due to the sub ZERO weather (and negative-30 windchill....yes, it can get that cold!). So....I still have more stuff to make, but it's gonna go to lots of neighbors, friends, and co-workers ;-)

    1. Oh, no! Will the family gathering be rescheduled? I'm shivering thinking about your weather. I plan to send whatever candy and other sweets are left back to college with the middle kid. I'm sure he and his roommates will get it done!

  2. That a #holottaair! As you know I'm working on my jumping, so I know a little bit about it....:p

You have had really great training, and the heat you've experienced lately will serve you well if it is warm at Disney. When I was there 6 years ago, it was perfect. 55-60? Sending those vibes for you. <3

    1. Funny how that HO word just fits with anything... I feel like I've had a good training cycle. I did opt for more running days this time. My Disney halves were all in great weather. Last year's marathon was NOT (but I didn't care - I was so happy to be on my feet). Send all the good weather vibes my way, please.

  3. I am impressed by your baking skills. I do not have the patience AND I end up eating most of it.... so I just don't make it.
You are so ready for your marathon ! enjoy the holidays.... your race will be here in no time.

    1. I pick the really easy recipes! And, one of my kids likes to help. I do pretty good through the holidays not eating too many sweets. It's when it's all over that I get into trouble.

  4. Nailed it! Doesn't it feel so good to have those big weeks of training behind you?

I love the candy! We always decorate gingerbread people... we did it a week early this year, as this weekend was all around a dress rehearsal and holiday show that my daughter was in.

    1. Yes! I was really worried about the final hard push of a week. But, it went just fine. This December will be my highest mileage month ever, I believe. Yummy - I love gingerbread!

  5. Congrats on making it to the taper! This is a good week for a break from the high mileage. Your candy looks great!

  6. Glad you had a productive week! Those candies look good to me :) Congrats on your last 21 miler. It must be really cool to start a run with the moon and end with a sunrise.

    1. I was doubly rewarded for my efforts on that day! It makes that super early wake up time all worthwhile.

  7. I went Christmas shopping with my dad today. I ended up getting gifts for my brother and mom and boyfriend. So now I just have to finish up my dad (obviously couldn't while I was with him haha) and my other brother (who is super hard to shop for and for whom I have no idea what to buy). All that aside, make sure to stop by the Fit2Run booth when you go to the Disney marathon and ask for me! I'll be working the expo!

    1. Yes, I definitely will stop by. I probably won't go until Saturday afternoon. I made the mistake of going Saturday morning last year. OH MY -- it was a madhouse and I stupidly forgot my driver's license and had to go back later in the afternoon. It was so dead when I went back and I thought "I need to remember this for next year!"

  8. Yay for making it to taper town! And perfect timing with Christmas coming. Hope the holiday proves to be a nice distraction :) Thanks for the link-up!

    1. I usually don't bake cookies -- because I love them so. I can eat one piece of candy and stop. I can't do that with cookies. So, the candy making is very strategic on my part! LOL.

  10. I really don't know how you basically run a marathon over the weekend AND shop & make candy! Instead of jumping I'd be crawling.

I used to start baking cookies in the summer . . . but I came to realize it's not a good idea for me. And most people I know don't really want more stuff. We do do latkes, but sometimes store bought -- it's a labor intensive process. To make them from scratch, that is.

    1. Now that you mention it...I'm not sure how I did that either! Out of pure necessity I guess? Seriously, although I'm tired my body has held up pretty good this training cycle. I do want to take a nice recovery period though.

  11. Finding time and energy to run 21 miles this time of year is impressive. You lead by example on setting your priorities. You've earned your time at Disney! And you candy looks great!

    1. I've run early January races (first halves and now fulls) for 6 years running (pun intended). The training definitely helps me takes the stress out of holiday stress. I wouldn't want to do it any other way.

    1. I'm afraid there will be more days of too much coffee this week. I'm one of those who could listen to holiday music all year long so that part is always fun.

  14. Yeah Disney!!

    Beautiful moon and sunrise!

Way to get some air after 20 miles...wowsers!!

I refuse to go in a store...absolutely refuse. All online shopping for me this year..I just can't with the stores and malls!

    Nice treats!

We usually make cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve. I got a Gingerbread cookie mix that I think we will do this year..we will see.

    Have a great week Holly!

  16. Great high milage week! Wahoo! I used to make tons of cookies for everyone when I was poor college student, but I don't anymore. I kind of miss it. Almost all of the presents are here and wrapped, just waiting for a few stragglers from Amazon. ;) Have a great week!

    1. My favorite thing to eat is frosted Christmas cookies -- that is why I make candy instead. It's all by design so I won't eat too many sweets.

  21. Totally agree with you that the moon and angle of the sun have been amazing lately. So beautiful! I'm not going to say anything more about your training cycle (epic) in order to not jinx anything. Just breathe and let it unfold. I used to bake for the holidays like it was my job alas that would be stepping on MIL's toes so there will be nothing dragged down to FL this year. The spotlight is all hers. She needs it.
