Although I was so excited for some of our very own Weekly Wrappers to be running the Chicago Marathon, and absolutely wished them nothing but the best of luck, it made me a little blue not to be running it myself. I'd like the chance to run it and NOT FALL [or DNS like I did in 2015!].
And that's a wrap!
You may remember that Teresa visited a couple of weeks ago and we completed our first Century Ride. Well, I demand politely request that all my guests take a mailbox picture with me. It's my jam. Anyhoo, I wasn't crazy about the way it turned out. But in the spirit of keeping it real...here it is. She looks great, but I need a do-over.

Sunday's long run was scrapped due to Tropical Storm Nate. Conditions allowing, I will run Monday instead as I'm off for the Columbus Day holiday. I'm a member of team #alwaysmissamonday, especially in the summer after spending the weekend running, cycling and water skiing. Monday ends up being my much needed day of rest. {Truth be told, I can barely move! Ha Ha} But, I occasionally make an exception.
I did work up a sweat for a solid hour Sunday on my second bike trainer ride of the week. I watched The Good Doctor while cranking out an easy -- and by that I mean low resistance -- 32 miles. I'm addicted to this new show. Freddie Highmore plays and excellent role as a brilliant surgeon with autism.

I recently won a pair of Zelus Insoles from Rachel. {Thank you so much!} I chose the Olympus model for my high arches. I tested them on my last four miler. They felt comfy although they made the toe box of my Mizuno Inspires very snug. I hope that will not be an issue at higher mileage. If so, I'll try sizing up on my next pair of shoes. I'm convinced my previously fractured metatarsals need all the help they can get, particularly if I train for another marathon. Say What?
I'm sending an enormous shout out to Karen [fit_in_france on IG]. We've been working together since June and not only did she set a new half marathon PR by shaving off 13 minutes two weeks ago at the Disney Paris Half {after running the 10k the day before no less!} she did it again today at the 20km de Paris. Karen is proof you can work hard by running just 3 quality runs each week and still make huge gains! I'm proud of you!

It's funny because I think I have this huge meaty hand in that pic. It looks as if it would cover Teresa's whole head. LOL
DeleteI think thats a cute mailbox picture! And I was jealous of all the Chicago marathon runners. It definitely made me want to train for another race!
ReplyDeleteYes, it definitely fanned the flames of my marathon fire as well. I was hoping for a January race but I don't feel I have enough training time at this point.

ReplyDeleteA 13 minute PR is awesome, go Karen! I love that idea of a mailbox Picture, I've never seen anyone do it! Watching Chicago today made me antsy for my next marathon.
ReplyDeleteI had always kept supplies (including my phone) in my mailbox for really long runs. Snapping a picture when I returned seemed like the natural thing to do.
DeleteI'm so thrilled for Karen! Says a lot about her coach too! ;-) On the inserts, I assume you removed the inserts that come with the shoes? I am thinking of exploring new shoes, but don't know if I should or I'm just bored!
ReplyDeleteI tried it both ways. If I remove the Mizuno inserts, the Zelus don't seem to fill all the negative space beneath my super-human, freaky high arches. And I wanted them to do that.
DeleteRandom from my week? We'd planned on flying to Florida last Thursday, but got an urgent call from our friend there (photographer, who was gonna take some senior pics of the daughter) telling us to stay home. I never saw if the storm hit his part of FLorida, but (as of Thursday) it was headed his way and was possibly turning into a hurricane.
ReplyDeleteIt didn't hit Florida at all. I believe the eye officially came in around Biloxi, MS. I could be wrong about that. But, we were on the bad side this time with all the rain.
DeleteI love the mailbox pictures! I watched Chicago this morning, but I actually don't get FOMO for marathons. It was still fun to watch, and I'll be waiting to see how our blogger friends did out there.
ReplyDeleteIt didn't even occur to me to watch that race. I ran a few miles and just got busy around the house afterwards. I wish I had watched it.

Random: Darlene & I went to my favorite local ice cream place after our run. It's not her jam, but you know her & ice cream & it was close to where we ran. So she indulged me. I don't indulge in ice cream as often!
I almost feel like I MUST miss a Monday, otherwise I'll just keep going and going. I can't remember the last time I had ice cream. Hmmmm... I may have indulged in a milkshake at the beach this year. HA. I can't remember.
Deletehmm whats random from my week...we went to the indians playoff game and watched them in extra innings and they won in 13 innings!

DeleteThis weekend was a lot of running for me- 14 miles fri, 11 sat, and 8 Sunday. I don't always miss Mondays but I will definitely be taking a rest day this Monday.

We had tons of rain from Nate but thankfully no wind damage. I hope you are recovering well after your marathon!
DeleteI've seen lots of commercials for The Good Doctor and wondered if it was good. I'll have to check it out. I thought I'd have a huge case of FOMO this weekend for the Chicago Marathon, but my road trip was a fun distraction. :-D
ReplyDeleteI like Freddie Highmore anyway. He was so good in Bates Motel. We went on a trip to Nashville the year I DNS'd Chicago with a foot fracture. It helped take my mind off of it, somewhat.

DeleteBig big shout out to you Holly, you have been a GREAT coach. The training has been challenging but not so hard that I ever got discouraged. Each run builds self confidence, which allowed me to hit those 2 major PRs in 2 weeks. THANK YOU !

ReplyDeleteI'm glad you like the insoles. You can trim the end of them if they're too long. This is obvious but you took out the current Mizuno ones, right? Just have to ask!

I tried the inserts with and without the Mizuno inserts. My arches are supported when both inserts in place but my shoes feel tight. If I use the Zelus only, my arches don't even touch. I'm not sure if I'll try to trim them. The jury is still out. Otherwise, they feel great. No ill effects.

DeleteLove your DAM pic! So cute! And, I'd love to hear more about running only 3 times a week. That's all I usually run even though my plan calls for 5 . . . life gets in the way and I feel so guilty.
ReplyDeleteKaren does a lot of strength training every week and running three times seems to be her sweet spot for the half marathon distance. What are you currently training for?
DeleteI felt a little blue missing Chicago this year as well! Although those mountains and blue skies were a pretty darn good consolation prize!
ReplyDeleteHad I been in Palm Springs, I probably would not have given a thought to the Chicago Marathon. I do that with everything when I'm on vacation. That's what they are for, right?
DeleteI'm totally team #Alwaysmissamonday as well - if I run long on Sunday, I usually need a rest day on Monday. If I run both Saturday and Sunday, like this weekend, I DEFINITELY need a rest day on Monday. I don't think team #nevermissamonday are actually made up of runners. :)
ReplyDeleteI started out running both days on weekends simply because I had more free time. Even now if I don't run both days -- I cycle or water ski or both. So, Monday is still my favorite day to rest.
DeleteThe mailbox photo looks cute! And I tend to keep Monday for my rest day too. It's nice to start off the work week without have any added work out plans I have to get in too.

DeleteAh Chicago... I had to DNS 2016 for numerous reasons but mainly because my MVP was giving me fits. I never even started to train :(.. I have enjoyed looking at all the pictures so much that I thought about putting my name in the lottery again! Hurricane Nate has brought some terrible weather and humid temps. I am ready for cooler weather please! Hope you have a great week and your long run goes well today!
ReplyDeleteWell, my long run (which was only 6 miles) was completely in the steady rain. But it was so humid, I don't think I could have taken it if it wasn't raining. We need to compare MVP notes some day! If I stay away from my triggers, I'm OK. {Knock On Wood!}

DeleteSounds like another marathon might be in your future! I was excited for everyone running Chicago but so happy I was not running it in those conditions. I think maybe we are destined to always have warm temps in October. It never seems to get cooler and stay cool until end of November.
ReplyDeleteI wanted a marathon to be in my January future! Sadly -- with the couple of minor set backs I've had recently, I don't think I have enough time to train. Maybe a late winter marathon will be in order

DeleteHa! I'm kind of on team #alwaysmissamonday, too. But I often feel better if I at least get in some yoga or something. Generally, though, no running for me that day. Congrats to Karen on her new PRs!

ReplyDeleteWell, I can attest it is a very flat course. I almost wished it had a few hills to give your body something different to do and a chance to rest on the down hills.

Watching Chicago this weekend kind of made me want to get in the lottery next year, but I still haven't run a full and I'm not sure if that's a good first time one... We'll see.

Exactly! Toast On Monday club member! If you like flat courses, and don't mind running with 40,000 others, Chicago is an excellent first time marathon.

I'd never really thought about the never miss a monday thing...I just follow my coach's schedule :) I suppose it is a great way to start the week though. Sets everything off on the right foot!
Whatever makes us more motivated and capable to tackle or training, whether it's a rest day or a run day, is what we should do. There is no right or wrong.

random thing that happened this week-I somehow managed to have my toenail cut the toe next to it during a race and I didn't know about until I pulled my bloody sock off..ewwwww!!
