But First, Coffee (June)

Welcome to Coffee Talk!

June?  How can that be?

I'm joining in on the Ultimate Coffee Date and the Friday Five.

This is an exciting weekend as I'm headed to Colorado to run the Revel Rockies Marathon. I'd probably talk your ear off if we were together in person as I've got a lot of nervous energy to spend.

But first, coffee.  Have a virtual seat, pour up a large mug, settle in and let's talk a while.

Over Coffee...

I'd share I didn't shed a single tear at our youngest son's high school graduation, even when he presented me with a rose during the ceremony (pictured above).  The excitement I feel for him far outweighs any sadness I feel.  He was awarded with an academic scholarship and will attend college away from home.  Ask me if I'm planning to do more races in that city...of course!  As luck would have it, it's a favorite place of mine to run and now I have the perfect excuse.

Over Coffee...

I'd admit I am registered for nothing past this weekend.  Nothing.  It's like I can't think clearly until I finish this marathon.  More than likely, the hard reality is I feel I should assess the ol' body damage before committing to anything else.

Over Coffee...

You'd hear how I've been collecting the You Are Here Starbucks mugs...and now they've gone and created a replacement series called Been There.  This is the second time they've done this to me.  The new set looks very different.  I will not start a new collection.  [Repeat Often]   My fingers are crossed that the old Colorado You Are Here mug is still available as I was not successful getting it on prior trips. And yes, I realize the old series will be all over eBay -- but what's the fun in that?

A You Are Here mug

Over Coffee...

Speaking of weather {isn't everyone?}, after running in our hot, muckity-muck humidity for well over a month, I've had to throw my marathon pacing strategy out of the window.  On top of that, it looks like it will be in the low to mid 40's at the 10,000 feet of altitude start line and 75 at the finish. I've definitely never run a race with that much temperature change.  It should makes things interesting to say the least.

Over Coffee...

I'd tell you how I have a lot of water skiing to make up for this summer.  With travel, family events and inclement weather, I haven't a free weekend to ski until just recently.  Sadly, I decided it would be a really stupid decision to go out for the first time this year mere days before a goal race.  After all, I do need to be able to move without whimpering in pain.

What would you tell me over coffee?

  2. Congrats to your son on his scholarship. I don't think my parents cried at mine either. You have me intrigued now and wondering where he is going to school.

    1. I'll probably shed a few tears the days he moves into his dorm and we drive away. Sniff. Sniff.

    1. I thought I'd really be emotional with the last son, but...maybe I've gotten used to it by now. LOL. I'm sure I'll be sad when he moves. The house will be so quiet!

  6. That's too bad about the water skiing but I'd say you made a good decision.

I swear my parents were doing a happy dance when I graduated. :)

    Good luck this weekend!

  7. Welcome to the empty nest syndrome. You will save money on the groceries.

That sucks about the mugs. I have some in each of the older collections. I did forget to get one when I was in Colorado. Darn. Hopefully I can get one in Montreal and Paris this fall.

    1. Truly, we are already empty nesters. What high school senior with a steady girlfriend stays at home anyway? LOL. You can't forget those mugs this fall!

  8. I saw both series in San Francisco and went with the Been There mug because it had a lot of symbols of the city. I thought the You Are Here was rather plain. I'm still seeing the Your Are Here for Colorado in Target with their Starbucks. I'd definitely check there if you can't find the mug you want.

    1. The Been There mugs are nice (I like the detail too!) but I just don't want to start over. Again. I'm checking the airport before I even leave there! LOL.

  10. I feel your pain on the You Are Here mug change. I really liked them and have a lot. I did buy the new Been There Texas mug, and I'm getting used to the change, but at this point, do I really need duplicates of all the mugs I already have? I'm sure that is Starbucks' plan...but will I fall for it?

Best of luck with your marathon - most of all I hope you have FUN!

    1. The first ones I collected (called Collector Series?) didn't stack so I was thrilled with the You Are Here stackable design.

Thanks. FUN will be a priority!

  11. I would tell you, Holly Dear, that I have an almost exact salt/pepper "watermelon" set ;-) My kitchen has a lot of watermelon stuff, including plates, framed preschool artwork, towels, water pitchers, glasses, and baskets LOL

Best of luck in your race
don't you worry about your marathon pace

  12. I think you're going to appreciate the dry mountain air. And the sun can be strong up there so beware. You're going to be great. Congrats to your son! You and Wendy give me hope that next year maybe I won't be a crying mess. One can dream. I'm kind of miffed about the mug style change as well. I have the old CO and a friend sent me the new CO but I'm not collecting the new ones either.

    1. I predict you'll be so excited for your daughter that you'll forget to cry! I found both mugs in Colorado and think the series is actually prettier, but I just can't start over.

  13. Congrats to your son on the academic scholarship. Well done! I collect shot glasses from all the places I've raced. I like the Starbucks mugs but I don't have the space for them.
    Good luck on your marathon!

  14. I hope your marathon went well!!! I don't collect the mugs but my brother works for Starbucks and he gets them here and there. Then he shares them so I do have a few. I really like the size!

    1. The size and weight (both very important for this coffee drinker) is spot on. It's cool you can get some through your brother.

  15. I'm counting on fantastic recaps from both of you! LOL on the Starbucks mugs. I'm sure they have to mix it up to sell more. I'll stick with their coffee. ;-) Thanks for joining in on marathon weekend!

  16. That is a HUGE temperature difference! I hope it all went well and you feel fantastic! Can't wait to read your race report.

I have never tried water skiing. I'm sure I'd be that person that would wind up in a "fail" video on YouTube. Lol
