Friday Runfessions (June)

It's the last Friday of the month and you know what that means...

It's time for Runfessions!  Let's get right to it.

I runfess...

I lost all of the information on the My Races tab [^^ yes, right up there ^^].  When I recently went to edit that page, my list of nearly 200 races and links to their corresponding recaps had vanished.  Sitting there instead was my recap from the Tear Drop Half Marathon.  Seriously, how did that happen?  I've been able to recreate the list of marathons, half marathons, and cycling events.  But the rest of it?  All of those painfully hard fought 5ks?  It's too overwhelming.

I runfess...

I take a lot of photos.  In order to get an acceptable picture for blogs or other social media, I'm sure you all can appreciate the lengths we go to for just the right shot. Over and over.  And over.  My "thing" is to routinely take one after running; standing in the road waving to, or doing other silly things in front of, my mailbox.  Well, sometimes I'm caught red handed by a neighbor walking their dog or driving to work.

Don't mind me, I'm just counting my mail.
Doesn't everyone?

I runfess...

This was on my last Runfessions post.  My bike is still on its trainer.  Since I consider myself solar powered and love to be outdoors, I realize this makes no sense.  I have no rationale.  This month I'll further runfess the front tire is pitifully flat.  And one more runfession for the road [get it?] - the frame makes a really handy rack for drying sweaty, nasty, dripping running clothes.

I runfess...

Unless I've forgotten an essential race item, I usually don't buy anything at race expos.  In my opinion unless it's a race specific souvenir, most items they have for sale can be bought online much cheaper.  I guess the mile high altitude made me delirious because I caved and bought sunglasses at the REVEL Rockies expo. At least I wasn't the only one who succumbed.   Thanks Teresa for sharing the "2 For" price with me!

A more honest runfession...
You Had Me At Lime Green

I runfess...

Earlier this year, I decided to finally have orthotics made for my running shoes.  I have super high arches and, according to my podiatrist, that is why I've fractured my metatarsal bones.  Twice.  However, I was instructed not to start using them until after my marathon training and the race itself were finished.  Umm...at my count that was almost four weeks ago.  They are still in their plastic bag.

What would you like to runfess?

I'm linking with my friend Marcia today from Marcia's Healthy Slice.

  1. Mmmmm who wouldn't succumb to lime green shades? You NEEDED them! Your neighbors must think you're nuts talking to your mailbox that way. Haha! Thanks for linking!

    1. What is nuttier is the things I do to try and cover up the fact I'm taking a mailbox selfie. HA!

  2. ha ha ha...I love your mailbox selfies! That's "Holly's trademark," after all. I have been busted, myself, trying to casually do a post-run stretch in front of the carefully propped camera...only to have the camera tip at the precise moment the photo snaps. Or a car drives by. Or another car.....

    1. Since I'm using running in my other post run photos, I don't think the cars notice the phone propped on a tree trunk beside the road. That's what I'm hoping anyway.

  3. I feel like I am always caught taking selfies! It can take awhile to get a decent one. I'm sorry you lost your list of races! Thats so frustrating.

    1. If I can ever recreate the entire list, I'll definitely keep a copy!

  4. Mmmm....maybe you don't need those orthotics? After all, you ran a marathon and you're still running? Just saying...

Lime green looks good on you!

    1. Logic tells me I should at least try the orthotics. After all, two of my marathon training/races didn't end well for my metatarsals. Lime green is my favorite.

  5. Now I have a picture of you standing at your mailbox, taking a selfie, and getting "caught" by your neighbor. Too funny! So sorry about the race list. It makes me think I should back up my posts. I would hate to lose them! So much work!!!

    1. I just can't imagine that I overwrote that entire page with a race recap. I don't even know how it happened!

  6. Ugh sorry about your race list! I love your mailbox selfies! I have definitely been caught by neighbors as I try to line up a good shot - another benefit of the early morning runs I'm finding is there are fewer witnesses post-run ;)

    1. Yes, the earlier the better for the running selfies! Hopefully (if I'm not at the mailbox) they can't see my camera and just thinking I'm running.

  7. One of my neighbors saw me trying to get a jump photo the other day and must have thought I was just insane! The things we do lol. Love the green shades. What's up with the bike? It's much more pleasant than running in the heat

    1. I'm hoping to get the bike out this weekend! I really don't know why the cycling mojo is gone. Maybe after a good ride I'll change my mind.

  8. Sunglasses are my go-to at expos because mine are always getting all scratched and of course we need all the colors -- lime green -- that would match a lot of my running skirts! Yes please! It's also one of the items that IS typically cheaper at the expo.

I actually don't tend to spend a lot of time with photos. It probably shows. :)

    1. Most sunglasses are too wide for my small head so I don't buy many pairs. Even this small pair is too big but like I said...you had me at lime green.

  9. I love the shades that you purchased at the race expo - that lime green color is awesome!

    1. I like them too! They are different from what I typically wear.

  10. Oh many I'm sorry you lost the links to many of your races! I'm so not tech savvy so that would frustrate me.

    1. I was (am) very frustrated after losing all of that information!

  11. I usually don't buy anything at expos either. The last extra I bought was from Raw Threads, and I'd purchased it online and chosen the expo pickup. So does that count?

    1. It's pretty cool they had the expo pickup option!

  12. I literally laughed out loud reading about your neighbors catching you at the mailbox. I'm waiting for you to catch one of your neighbors in your shot!

    1. Oh, I've caught neighbors in my shots before. But I feel bad about posting them. LOL

  13. So you do have all your race info, you just need to put them back on your page? That's a relief - I was worried you had lost all your records! Athlinks has been a great backup!

When I went to the podiatrist, they had Superfeet insoles that I could buy on the spot, but I waited almost 2 full weeks before finally getting a pair on Amazon...no pun intended but I'm kicking myself for waiting so long!

    1. I'll have to go back through my yearly calendars to recreate my list of over 100 5ks/10ks. My new insoles were made from actual molds of my feet. But, I've been using Zelus insoles for about a year and they are doing a great job!

  14. I'm always impressed by the running photos I see on social media. I have yet to master that.
My bike has been collecting dust for a while too. I need to get out there before the heat comes.
I don't usually buy things at expos either but I did get an inexpensive pair of sunglasses once too and I wore them for the longest time.

    1. I think another thing that made me want to purchase something is that it wasn't a huge expo. The big ones are too overwhelming and I want to get out of there as fast as I can!

  15. That is frustrating about your race list! I like those lime green glasses, good purchase!

    1. I'm enjoying them. They are very lightweight.

  16. I feel you on expo pricing. The only thing I've regret not buying at Cherry Blossom were the magnetic bib holders. I thought they were overpriced there, but I haven't found them any cheaper anywhere else.
Solar powered -- I love that description!

    1. I was given the snap on bib holders at a race recently but found they are too difficult to use. A friend had the magnetic and they would always fold up the bib and stick to each other. LOL.

    2. Oh maybe I'm glad I can't find them then!

  17. Love these! I'm trying to get better at run photos now I'm blogging about it, though I failed in my long run this last weekend. I don't take the time to re-take them, either. I took some terrible ones in my bathroom mirror the other day and just deleted them right away! Maybe you'll only ever see my face and my feet!

    1. I'm not a big fan of selfies. I do them because I know people who read my blog want to know what I look like (b/c that's how I feel when I read a blog). But, I'd rather post what I am seeing -- a pretty sunrise, the sun reflecting off the lake...
