Talking Over Coffee

Welcome to Coffee Talk!

August?  How can that be?

I'm joining in on the Ultimate Coffee Date and the Friday Five.

But first, coffee.  Have a virtual seat, pour up a large mug, settle in and let's talk a while.

Over Coffee...

I'd tell you I set up small coffee bar in my kitchen.  Being honest, what made me move my Keurig was the fact I realized the cabinets were hung slightly higher in this little nook than on the other side of the room.  I can now open the top of my Keurig without sliding the machine out from underneath the cabinets. It's the little things.

Fueling the day with coffee!

Over Coffee...

You'd hear how it's going to be a fun water skiing weekend.  Wendy and I connected through our running blogs several years ago.  She had a picture of herself water skiing on her blog header back then and it immediately caught my attention.  I was thrilled to find another woman who slalomed -- trust me, it's rare -- and was as crazy as me to be still doing so at our mature age.  I'm not sure we can top the shenanigans from the first annual HoLottaSkiing but we'll certainly give it a try!

Over Coffee...

You'd hear how we high-tailed early Monday morning to North Carolina to see our grandson play in the World Series Championship.   We watched the first games at home on Jock Jive Sports which is almost like being there.  Almost.  After going undefeated three games in, we felt they'd make it to the final round and we simply could not miss that.    It was worth every mile driven to see them play three more amazing games and advance to the final.  They had a disappointing loss and came away with 2nd place.  Everyone is so proud of these fellas.  Sadly, they are too young to understand what they've accomplished.

Our little guy on the move...and our big guy coaching.

Over Coffee...

You'd see I'm sporting an elbow brace.  It's time for another painful steroid shot in my left elbow.  I have nobody to blame but myself.  Seriously, what was I thinking doing all those push-ups?  This isn't my first rodeo either.  It took my right elbow a full year to heal and the doc says to expect the same for this one.   I solemnly swear to never do another push-up ever again.

Over Coffee...

I'd ask if you were training for anything.  I'm not.  In fact, I'm not running much at all right now. I have absolutely nothing on my race calendar.  I needed some downtime, both mentally and physically, and am taking full advantage.  My current plan is to use August as my reboot month focusing more on cross training and pre-hab exercises with a little running thrown in.  The month is going to be crazy busy though, so we'll see how that plays out.  .

What would you tell me over coffee?

I'm linking with the lovely Coco and Deborah!

  1. I knew there was a reason that I don't do push-ups.

Congrats top your grandson. That is so exciting.

Can't wait for the waterskiing videos. If it weren't for that nasty broken ankle and all the hardware in there, I would be waterskiing too. :(

You deserve the downtime - a summer marathon and half marathon. My summer has been slow. My last double digit run was back in May.

I expect my fall to be busier - 3 half marathons.

    1. We sadly didn't get any video this year. The son who did our cinematography last year wasn't available and it was all PoPo could to do to drive and snap some quick pics.

  2. Congrats to your grandson's team. It's hard to not be disappointed, but they will learn how much they accomplished. All I was focused on at that age was winning, and I hated losing!

    1. They were visibly upset by the third inning. It's a lot of pressure for them to handle. They haven't mastered that skill yet.

  3. You know I had to click on your coffee station picture and examine your Starbucks mugs - I have four that are the same...they are all so colorful and fun, it's great that you get to display them!

Hope you and Wendy have a great visit and I can't wait to see what fun waterskiing picture theme you come up with this time. :)

    1. I hope I can still find the mugs in the this older series. The new ones look so different. I don't want to start over with my collection.

  4. I have tendonitis in both elbows. Thankfully they rarely flare up, but I do have to be a bit careful with pushups. My sympathies!

Enjoy Wendy, your weekend, and the waterskiing (and your downtime). After a quiet winter I'm definitely busy running all the miles!

    1. Once I healed my right elbow (took a year just like the doc said), it has remained just fine. I hope the same for my left!

  5. Oh no on the elbow! My stupid achilles is still hurting me. I love your little coffee bar. I am thinking of upgrading mine in some way. Little things I will do to keep me busy once the kids are off to school. It is the little things :) Thanks for linking up for coffee

    1. I'd love to have a REAL coffee bar. But, I'm just using the tiny space I have to work with. I hear you on the little things...

    1. Oddly enough, water skiing makes it feel better. So YAY on that, at least.

  7. Huge congrats to your grandson! Boo on the elbow. After building up to full body push-ups years ago I'mm afraid of not doing them because I don't want to lose that strength, but the way I'm slacking on strength days there's no risk of an over-use injury. I love your mug display by your coffee bar. We have a coffee bar area in our year-old "new" kitchen because we loved the one my friend had. ;-)

    1. It's so funny how an insignificant relocation of my coffee machine has made me ridiculously happy. LOL.

  8. It looks to me like you girls have already matched the first annual shenanigans! Congrats to your GS! That is so amazing. I was thinking about nerves and accomplishments the other day. Seems to me sometimes that young people achieve great things because they simply don't "get" the magnitude of it and they don't get in their head about it. Sorry about the elbow. I've had pain like that from lifting heavy. Lasts. For. Ever. As you know. Ugh.

    1. The defensive skills of this team rivaled my teenager's high school baseball team. They were just amazing!

  9. So sorry to hear about your elbow, but at least you have an reason not to do push ups. I wish I had a good reason - I hate push ups.

Congrats to your grandson. I used to love watching my boys play baseball. Maybe one of my grandsons will play and give me a reason to go to games again.

Have fun on the girls skiing weekend. I'm sure you will! :)

    1. I was determined to work my way up to 50 "real" pushups. Umm, no...said my elbow. The best part of baseball is I can scream like a crazy woman and nobody cares. It's great for stress.

  10. Congrats to your grandson!! I got to work the Little League World Series a couple years back and the kids were amazing--making it to the World Seires is already such a huge accomplishment in itself--I hope they realize that eventually! <3

  11. Congratulations again to your son and grandson! I don't blame you guys one bit for taking off and driving to NC to watch them play... YOLO!

I have the same issue with my Keurig ...I'm kind of locked in to where it has to reside based on the uppper cabinets height.

I'm loving the skiing tshirts! You ladies are too cute and having way too much fun without me! :)

    1. I never realized until I moved the machine that these cabinets were hung every so slightly higher. That made me ridiculously happy! No sliding!
