Three Years! (WW # 158)

Wendy and I host this linkup for
the sole purpose of supporting active women.
We thank you for linking your
FITNESS  RELATED  POST  with us!

****************************************

First of all...Happy Third Anniversary Weekly Wrap!  I can't believe it's been three years since I opened the first Weekly Wrap.  It's pretty humorous to look back and see what was going on then.  I was mostly complaining about the humidity; nothing new there.  If you've been linking for a while, I challenge you to go back and read your first Weekly Wrap post.

Hundreds of women have been through our virtual doors.  I appreciate Wendy stepping in for Tricia earlier this year to help keep this link alive.  I admit it is a lot of reading some weeks, but I seriously wouldn't trade that for anything!  I love keeping up with everyone.  The accountability and motivation found right here every week are priceless.

To celebrate, we will have a drawing for those who link the last Sunday-Wednesday of this month (August 26th - 29th).  Be sure to get your fitness post ready and link with us in two weeks for a chance to win!

On to my wrap...

So so so so hot.  Over it!

After two weeks of very minimal mileage -- a whopping total of 8.4 miles -- I am ready to get back into the running groove.  This week marked my attempt to ease back in.  I ran twice: progressively on Wednesday for 4.7 miles and easy on Friday for 5.5 miles.  Returning to training comes with the all important pre-habbing sessions.  I did two of those as well.

I had a bit of an ulterior motive when Wendy and I went kayaking last weekend.  I was also previewing the Coosa River Adventure for my sister's visit.   After having so much fun last weekend, I convinced our sons to join us as well.  I was hoping for a little redemption on the Class III rapids. No.Dumping.HoHo.

My Three Sons (it's an old TV show, young peeps)...and a sister

The rapids seemed different; the current faster.  We were warned they would open gates on the dam during our paddle which would increase the water flow.  The water level would also rise three feet fairly quickly.  They assured us there would be no tsunami racing toward us from behind. Whew!  I admit to getting a little nervous when I heard the warning horn sound.  Rest assured, we all had a blast.  The kids loved the rapids.  I was spun around a few times and caught on some rocks, but only one of us was dumped in the water and this time it was not me.

We followed our morning up with an afternoon on the lake.  The grandkids were with us and we enjoyed boat riding, tubing, swimming and (naturally) I skied off and on until sunset.  It was one of those perfect days you don't want to end.  After 7 miles of paddling and probably 40 miles of skiing, Sunday was less adventurous.  I chilled with my sister most of the day as we caught up on life.  We only get that chance a few times a year.  But in true last minute form, we went back to the lake for some skiing at dusk to cap off a wonderful water weekend.

And that's a wrap!

So tell me, what were you talking about in your first Weekly Wrap?

  1. See what a little experience will do? LOL! That horn and rising water would have scared me! Looks like you had a blast. Glad all the boys got to do it with you and your sister.

I'm working on Mike to take me skiing after we drop Matthew off at school. I'm going to need it to wash away the tears.

Happy Anniversary, my friend! Love you!

    1. I think water skiing is the perfection solution for the post college drop-off blues. I may be doing the same thing this weekend. Thanks for taking on the Weekly Wrap with me! I couldn't do it without you.

  3. Happy Anniversary! My how time has flown. Your week looks like lots of crazy fun. 3 years ago I was just back from Europe and I was less than 60 days out from the Twin Cities Marathon with a 17 mile long run....if only I could say I did that now....

    1. It's scary how fast three years went by. I was training for Chicago and running a lot of longs runs too. Not this summer! LOL.

  5. I cant believe the weekly wrap has existed for 3 years! I just looked back and I think I joined in maybe the 2nd or 3rd week. I was training for my last marathon at the time, and trying to get over being sick for what felt like forever!

It looks like you and your family had so much fun, both kayaking and boating! Enjoy the rest of your time with your sister.

    Thanks for the linkup!

  10. What a gorgeous sunset water skiing photo! I'm glad you stayed upright on the rapids. I've never tried whitewater anything. I'm not sure if I'd be on the happy side of the thrilled/ terrified divide!

Thanks for hosting the wrap for 3 years an counting!

    1. The rapids on this adventure are just Class II and III. But, that is plenty enough difficulty for me. I don't think I'd enjoy anything much tougher -- at some point the fear would override the fun. Thanks for linking with us all this time!

  11. HaPpY AnNiVeRsArY!!! I think I joined the party shortly after you began this link-up, when I "met" you & Tricia through the blogging follow thing (I'm forgetting what it was called, but I met so many of the wonderful bloggers then as well). Glad you had a great time with the sis and the 3 Sons (and I do know what tv show to which you're referring LOL)

  12. Happy Anniversary and congratulations on 3 years. I have been linking up for less than a year, but I love WW. Running bloggers are so friendly and helpful. Definitely my favorite blogs to read.

  13. My first time linking was in October 2016! I wasn't very consistent back then...I'd link for a few weeks then skip a few weeks. I'm much better now though!

It was interesting to go back and read that post...I ended up not doing the race I was training for at that time because I got injured (boo). It's also funny to see how much my life has changed since then...I was working 2 jobs and also though 10 miles was a long run! Now I do 10 miles and I'm relieved I don't have to run any further...ha!

    1. Ha! It's humorous to see how our definition of a long distance run changes; sometimes after injury, sometimes depending on what we are training for, etc.

  14. Wow, that does sound like the perfect, active summer day. I don't remember my first WW, but a LOT has changed for me in 3 years- in that time, we have moved andnI have had 2 kids! So I was probably a little more active (and rested) during my first WW post.

    1. I remember the birth of both of your kids! So, I think that means you've been around pretty much from the start.

  15. Happy happy anniversary my friend! I started linking up two years ago this month! How cool its that? I'm so thankful you had this crazy idea of reading countless blogs each week of random women rambling on about their lives and workouts ....if it weren't for that, we'd never have ridden 100+ miles on a bike together or run 26 miles down a freaking mountain together! Cheers to many more adventures ...like maybe 16 miles running through some Mississippi trails????? :)

    ReplyDelete

    1. We certainly have done some adventurous/crazy/fun things! I think we need to do another ride, another marathon, and that trail event too. So many things...so little time.

I'm so glad Wendy encouraged me to join the weekly wrap after we "met" on the Runners' Bookshelf on Facebook. I think we'll all be talking about the humidity in the 300th wrap anniversary

  19. Happy wrappiversary! I've only joined in fairly recently and I think spent my first one justifying my sedate, "ordinary runner" self being there. In fact I still struggled with thinking anyone would find my post and not so great achievement interesting this week as I'm awe of the fitness and activities of everyone else. But maybe we all feel like that. Maybe not everyone can go forward for 19.2 miles on unfamiliar surfaces even if they have the speed of a gazelle. Who knows! Love your busy week with so many fun activities and family stuff, really lovely to read.

I looked up a weekly wrap in 8/15 (was it my first?) Apparently. I'd only been blogging a few months, too. I was talking about thunderstorms, humidity, and squeezing in runs. I guess nothing much has changed, LOL!

Although I was also talking about Chester -- I think it was right before he was dx with heart failure & we were cleaning out my parent's home. So some things have changed. :(
