Weekly Wrap #8

Welcome to the Weekly Wrap!

This weekly linkup is hosted by yours truly and my good friend Tricia @ MissSippiPiddlin.  The purpose is to connect with and support other active women.  We want to hear about your weekly adventures.  You are encouraged to include anything you did to be active or anything you considered fun.  Please tell us how you amazing women accomplish it all.  You can summarize your whole week or just a small portion of it.  It's up to you!  See rules here.

Let me quickly remind everyone that you are not required to recap your entire week here on the Weekly Wrap.  Some of us do, as we recap our training.  However, it's entirely up to you whether you do the whole week, the weekend, or just one day...as long as it's something active.  A RACE RECAP (love those!), an active vacation, or your normal fitness routines are all excellent links.  We are not picky!

The Fall Into Fitness Giveaway that I co-hosted with Runaway Bridal Planner ended Sunday at midnight.  Laura R. won the funky arm sleeves I gave away from Gypsy Runner.  Congratulations to Laura!  I truly appreciate all who participated in the hop and those who entered the giveaways.

Monday is always a rest day and then I granted myself another one on Tuesday.  I was stressing over the fact maybe I shouldn't have run two over-20 milers in this training cycle.
I decided to be sensible and give my body a little break.  I'm not sure it worked (more on that later).  It wasn't until Wednesday that I went for a run.  It was a very sluggish 5 miles.

I had much more energy on Thursday.  It was a very warm morning but I ran 5 miles @ 9:22 pace, which isn't too bad for me...considering.  When I arrived back at the mailbox and thought to look inside, I found my new Fitbit bling.

Happy Fall, Y'all!
Friday was another rest day.  I had planned to make up Tuesday's missed run on Saturday but instead had the opportunity to go to the lake one last time.  Well, OK!  That's a no-brainer.  I figured an hour or so cross training on a ski sounded like a better idea.

The water and air both were about 78 degrees.  That's cool.  After my last ski run, I shook uncontrollably for probably 30 minutes...with a jacket on.  Sadly, I'm calling it a wrap on the skiing for this year.  I've used a wet suit in the past, which has long since dry rotted.  I never thought it helped much anyway.  We celebrated on the way home at our favorite oyster bar...one last time.

I captured the most amazing images of the sky reflected in the lake with my GoPro on this trip.  I apologize for the video length.  GoPro Studios is enough to make you want to pull your hair out.  I hope you'll take a peek anyway.  And of course, there is southern narration.  Did you know "boat" is a two syllable word?  I have to say, this has been the best summer of skiing in a long time.  The conditions were ideal most every weekend.

See how small a GoPro is?  And it's still in its waterproof case, making it seem bigger.

Sunday I planned to run 12-13 miles but the foot that's been niggling for a while decided not to cooperate.  Prudently (I hope), I stopped at mile 11.  My left foot is just not right.  {Ha ha, get it?  My left foot is not right!}.  Of course, this put me into a tailspin.  A big thanks to Tricia and my sister for talking me down off that ledge.  Admittedly, I still spent Sunday afternoon throwing myself an extravagant pity party and imagining the worst possible scenarios.  I am praying with two more taper weeks, it will be OK by race day.

It's down to the counting.  I'm Chicago bound in 14 loads of laundry, 10 sleeps, 9 work days, 8 cooked meals, 6 runs (very possibly less), 3 grocery store visits, 1 college football game, 1 box of hair color and 0 other housework.  I hope someone other than me does the silly countdown too?

And that's a wrap!

Tell me something good about your week!

Please, wrap it up with us!

  1. It's so chilly on the lake this time of year. This is when my husband likes to go fishing, and I freeze until we get on a spot. Just as I start to warm up, he's ready to move on to the next spot. I'm not coordinated enough for water skiing. Y'all amaze me! Hope your foot feels better. It was smart that you cut your run short. Anything extra now could potentially hurt not help you on race day. Trust your training. You're going to be awesome! Nice countdown!

    1. My husband doesn't fish as much as he used to. He did for a little while this weekend which allowed me to rest between ski runs. Have you seen people wake surfing? That amazes me and it's seems so close to the boat motor.

  2. Looks like a fun time water skiing! Too bad it's gotten cold to bring it to an end! Cool Fitbit bling! I'm down to counting too, marathon next Sunday.

  3. Oooo, hope your foot feels better. You have put so much into your training.

We are having gorgeous summer weather here too and I am taking every advantage of it !

Love your countdown. I would add how many sleepless night deciding what to wear / bring/pack. That always gets me... Have a great week !

    1. This training cycle was very tough in the heat & humidity. I'm definitely having sleepless nights right now worrying about my foot!

  4. Ciao! I love your new Fitbit bling! I am so mad that my Fitbit did not work right in Italy and in fact it is still not working right- UGG! I hope this foot this shakes out, only one of us should have to deal with our feet and I think I took one for the team already! :) Love the countdown, so much fun ahead for you!

    1. It makes no sense that your Fitbit is still not working right. Weird. It doesn't look like this foot thing is going to work out in my favor. I've just got to deal with it and move on.

  5. Sounds like you had a smart week of training! All the hard work is done, so I'm sure it's better to rest that foot than to push it! I hope it stops causing you trouble so you can stop worrying about it:)

  6. You make that look so effortless (even though we don't see you).

You have done the hard work, and now is the time to be cautious. Most likely it's nothing. Except I'm right there with you, unfortunately -- I had such awesome runs saturday & everything felt fine. Until I turned onto my side to sleep that night - and BAM! Excruciating pain in my inner thigh. Seriously out of the blue.

It subsided after what seemed like forever, but it still felt like something that was about to pull, so I taped it up yesterday and am hoping for the best. Because I will be so pissed if I'm injured for my race and I did nothing to cause it!

Ok, my pity party is over. You can bet I'll be throwing that out on the blog, too. Here's hoping we're both just fine for our races.

    1. I've tried filming from the boat so you can see me, but it's too far away. I look like a little Lego figure going side to side. Believe me, I'm tired of throwing the pity party. It's exhausting.

  10. My left foot just isn't right, either (hahaha). I hope the niggles go away with taper. Waterskiing looks like such a blast. It is kind of sad to be getting to the end of water season...I did my last tri of the season this weekend. Now my swimming will be in a pool until next April or so.

    1. How I wish my left foot was right! I've never swam much indoors. In fact, I don't think I have since I took swimming in college..light years ago. Part of me is very sad to see summer come to an end. I really need to fix up my bike so I can enjoy the fall weather.

    1. Do you still water ski? It is so rare to find someone who does. Most people wake board or the latest thing is wake surfing. Skiing is a little bit old school, like me. Ha Ha.

  13. It's getting close. My right foot isn't right but it is what it is.

So sad that summer has ended. Done swimming and we are wearing sweatshirts on the lake.

Love the GoPro clip, I so beautiful! You live near some gorgeous country that is for sure! I really need to get a GoPro, they are awesome!!!
If I get time today I will be back to link up, I can't believe I forgot about it when I wrote the post yesterday! I need to add the attribution and your image logo thing first, and then I will be back:)

    1. My husband gave me the GoPro a few years ago. I had to just make myself start using it. I haven't edited enough clips to be good with the software either. I feel a little funny with it strapped on my head but then you kinda forget it's there...as evidenced by my blooper clip a few week ago.

  20. That is some very cool video and you are one excellent water skiier! Too bad you have to wrap it up for the season. 78 degrees sounds warm to me but what do I know? Niggles go away!

    1. Oh, thanks. You are too kind. I am sad to see it end. This niggle is not going away. It's a bummer.

  21. Well, after 40 years the skiing had better look easy. LOL. It's all about having trusty equipment. A good boat and driver helps too. I've always secretly wanted to train properly and compete on a slalom course but never felt good enough. Hey, I can enter and WIN my age group when I'm 90, right?

  22. Yey! Chicago is going to be awesome, a bit jealous actually! Love the skiing video! I'm getting ready to take my GoPro to Ragnar this weekend. Hoping to get some fun footage!

  23. Hey guess what I finally ordered me a fitbit charm! I cant wait until it comes in and I hope it will make my fitbit look normal again! Remember I wore it in the sauna when we had spa day??? How stupid was that? I love the ski video! I so want a GoPro! I want to take it to Disney with me on the rides! I think it would be so cool! I'm so very excited it's our biggest link up ever! 2 months into it! I think we need to come up with a giveaway after so long! That would be cool! :)

    1. I think the charm will cover your Fitbit boo boo nicely. GoPros are fun. I just wish the software were a bit easier. It could be the old laptop I use at home. I feel very silly with it on my head, but forget it's there after a while...as evidenced by my blooper video a few weeks ago. HA. I really enjoy reading the different link-ups on our WW! It's a great group of diverse women.

  25. I get really cold after my winter runs - I need a hot shower, hot coffee, and fuzzy layers to recover - but that's not what water skiing should be like! I hope your left foot isn't getting left behind anymore. (trying to come up with another pun ....)

  26. Your countdown to Chicago is hilarious. I do count down the days, but have never thought in terms of laundry etc! I can't wait to follow you next weekend when you run Chicago. It is on my list for 2016! Taking extra rest days has been something I have done this training cycle and I hope it helps when I toe the line next month in NYC.

  27. Woo hoo on your countdown!!! I absolutely do the same thing when it comes to laundry loads, etc. I've also had similar thoughts about various body parts not feeling right during taper or pre-race. Not to worry - you will be fine come race-day! Enjoy this time to refresh and heal up all those niggling spots!!!

  30. Maybe you can give me some pointers! It's gotten a little easier each time, but I certainly haven't mastered it. My old laptop probably doesn't help either.
