Coffee Talk (January)

Thank you Karen for this wonderful coffee mug!

Welcome to Coffee Talk!

It's time for the monthly Ultimate Coffee Date and, as luck would have it, time for the Friday Five.

I enjoy these monthly coffee chats.  I've brewed an extra dark coffee in my new Busch Gardens mug and I'm ready to catch up.

Let's chat about whatever randomness comes to mind...

Over Coffee...

I'd tell you that I'm sitting here and sipping on the couch in front of my Christmas tree.  You heard me.  In full disclosure, the holiday tunes are playing in the background.  I enjoy Christmas more after it is over.  There's no rising panic to buy gifts, wrap presents, cook special treats or clean the house.  I can enjoy the magic without the stress.  Too bad the decorations can't stay up all year.  To save PoPo from embarrassment, I have unplugged the outdoor lights.  {Heavy Sigh}

Original air date:  December 13, 1969

Over Coffee...

Speaking of coffee and Christmas, I received a new fancier Keurig machine with cool different colored lights no less.  Not that there was anything really wrong with my other one; except it made the fog horn noise from the old Scooby Doo cartoon from my childhood.  {Anybody?}  It's perplexing why there was always a boat in the fog on that show.   Anyway, I'm a little sad to let my noisy nostalga-invoking machine go.

Over Coffee...

I'd ask you if you've got your whole year planned out.  I certainly don't.  Except for two local upcoming half marathons, I have no clue what I'll be doing.  I like it that way.  I'm not one for goals and resolutions.  Plus, I've learned my mind and body don't always agree.  For example, I wanted to run in this weekend's Disney Marathon but when it was time to begin training, the body said "Whoa, HoHo!"  I have no doubt there will be plenty of last minute registrations this year.

Over Coffee...

I'd want to know if you've tried the new mint chocolate blended yogurt by Chobani.  I'm not a big fan of chocolate and mint, but this is very good.  Chobani is a favorite brand as it has lower sugar than some brands and is high in protein.

Over Coffee...

I'd admit I recently washed my iShuffle not once, but twice!  It safely made it through the first episode.  The second time?  .... May it rest in peace.  I'm so upset as I've learned they don't make them anymore!  The prices on the remaining stock have been jacked through the roof.  I loathe running with my heavy iPhone.  I want the ability to click through songs quickly too.  Besides, with my bloodless fingers from Raynaud's Syndrome -- I can't even operate my iPhone in cold weather.  I don't know what I'm going to do.  Any suggestions?

I'll miss you, little fella!

Well, that's about all the randomness I can think of.

What would you tell me over coffee?

  1. Kind of jealous of your new Keurig. Mine works but is starting to make some of those louder sounds you describe as well. I am thinking of getting one of those french presses also. Have not seen that mint yogurt but I am looking for lower sugar options. Thanks for linking up for coffee

    1. I received a French press one year and it didn't make good coffee. But, I'm sure is was a user problem. LOL.

  2. I have some plans for 2018 but a lot is unsettled. I love the Chobani coconut flavor even though I don’t usually like coconut things. I’m not sure I like their new “look” though.

    1. I wish food manufacturers wouldn't change their looks! I get confused at the grocery store whether I'm buying the brand I like or not.

  3. I wonder why Apple decided not to make them anymore? I mean, I am sure people loved them and kept buying them too. I know I've bought a few of them myself. I have one but don't use it as much because I rarely run with music.

Love that you got a new Keurig! Hopefully they don't stop making those. I use mine every single day. However, the pods aren't cheap and I purchased a smaller (5 cups) coffeemaker to make my coffee when I go back to work next week.

    1. I wish I had known they had discontinued the shuffle. I would have bought a few to keep on hand. Let's hope they will keep the Keurig around a while!

  4. That mint, chocolate yogurt sounds great! I don't have much of my race year planned out yet either. I have two Spring races planned and that's it. But like you said, I'm sure the schedule will fill in soon enough :)

    1. The years that I raced at Disney in January, it felt like the year didn't really start until after that race and trip was over.

  5. I agree about enjoying Christmas after it's over..haha. I didn't really shop in stores during Christmas ( I shopped mostly online) but the weekend after Christmas I actually enjoyed shopping! I got all my inside trees and decorations down but it's been too cold here this week to go out and take the outside lights down ( and I actually turned them on last night..haha). Hey I figure I can keep them on until the Epiphany on Jan 6!

My mom and I both had iPod Nanos and loved them. Hers conked out but my sister bought her a new one on eBay and I know it was a reasonable price. I love my nano and hope it doesn't die (it's gave me a few scares though)!

    1. I didn't shop in stores either. But, there was still pressure to get all the ordering done by a certain date. The shipping companies were slammed this year. My kids had Nanos years ago. If fact, they may still be around the house somewhere!

    2. You keep your eye on those Nanos, cus when mine conks out i'm gonna look you up...haha

  6. You are not alone on the Christmas decorations still being up. I've promised my husband we'll take them down this weekend. I love chocolate and mint together so I'll have to keep an eye out for the new yogurt flavor. I don't have my calendar figured out either which is so unlike me...but I've got to get the marathon thing settled first.

    1. My husband asked if they were coming down this weekend. Umm...no. I need to settle my marathon thing as well!

  7. I only have one race on the schedule, and no clue what I'd like to do in the fall. Good thing that's down the line. My outdoor decorations are still up, since it was 12 degrees last weekend. I didn't want to go outside at all if I could help it. They'll come down this weekend.

    1. No, I wouldn't go outside to do any work in 12 degrees either. Good call!

  8. I have the same yogurt in the fridge. You knew that I would.

I also have the shuffle. Sadly, I don't use it. (Not sure if it still works) I use my iphone since I carry it anyway.

I have an imitation Keurig. I don't think it's as good. I have a Keurig at work.

I don't make goals or resolutions. I just run and race. Easy peasy.

    1. I'm shocked I like that flavor or yogurt! I think you have the right idea. Just run and race!

  9. What????? They don't make the Shuffle anymore? Oh no...I have been procrastinating getting a new one forever...did I wait too long? (My Christmas trees are both still up, as are the decorations...and all the outside lights are still plugged in). Ahem. Any guesses what my Saturday project will be?

    1. They don't! Argh. I've sweated through quite a few over the years too. You can get one for around $150 (you know, they were $40). I just don't want to un-decorate, even this weekend.

  10. I have a waterproof Shuffle for that pool running I had to do. I hope I never have to do THAT again.

I am taking the tree down this weekend. I'm ready.

    1. Shhh... Don't say that and go jinxing yourself! LOL. I'm not ready for the decorations to come down. I'll own that. (Crazy lady in the neighborhood who'd keep them up all year round.)

  11. I had a shuffle a long time ago but didn't appreciate until I had gotten rid of it :( I'm ready to take down our decorations, but we're keeping them up while the youngest in still visiting us. One more week.

    1. The Shuffle is just so convenient for running or cycling! You have the perfect excuse to leave up the decorations. Give me long enough and I'll think of a good excuse too! LOL.

  12. Holly let me look in my bottomless drawer of running stuff. I may have a Shuffle for you. I've had so many die in the wash. But if you dry them a loooong time, they seem to come back to life. I didn't think I was much of a chocolate mint fan but lately I'm like a total groupie. I'll have to look for that. I am sooooo unplanned. And I like it too!

    1. My Shuffle went through one dryer cycle before I found it. I'll try it again, just in case. I had to retire my other Shuffles when I wore out the off/on switch. I would be beholden to you if you found one!!!

  13. My mom leaves her tree up year round! One year she hung little ghosts on it since she was having people over for Halloween.

    1. You know, I've heard other people talking about that. But the thought of un-decorating and re-decorating a large tree for each season seems like a lot of work. (Call me lazy!)

  14. I totally remember that fog horn boat from Scooby Doo. There were so many strange things on that show!

I was staying far away from the chocolate mint chobani, but maybe I'll give it a try the next time I see it. It just doesn't sound like it would taste good, but you are the second person I've heard say that it's good.

    1. My sister and I loved Scooby Doo. (And Bugs Bunny.) I can still remember all the music and the sound effects. I never liked mint chocolate ice cream, but the yogurt is very tasty.

  15. Have you tried GameStop for an ishuffle? That's where I got mine a few years ago ..it was 'refurbished' of course but has worked like a charm and was not very expensive either.

I love Chobani yogurt too! My fave is plain with a squirt of honey and tons of blueberries! I'll have to try this because it sounds like a girl scout thin mint cookie!!

I wish I could enjoy my Christmas tree beyond Christmas but I just can't. I always want it all down and packed away by the time December comes to a close. Guess I'm just a Scrooge! :)

    1. There are reburbished Shuffles online. (Actually, I have several that someone could reburbish. LOL.) I may go that route. Relatively speaking, they were so inexpensive to begin with that I always bought a new one -- which now costs $150 and up. WTH?

  16. Oh wow. The shuffle is the cutest! I do wish they made it. Never realized that a day will come when an iPod shuffle will become an antique. Happy New Year 2018!

    1. When you are used to the weight and size of the Shuffle(which is almost nothing) it's hard to fathom using anything else. I should have stocked up.

  17. Oh no! Sorry to hear about your iShuffle! Someday, I'd like to get a Keurig, but k-cups just seem so wasteful and expensive. I do have a refillable one that I have to use with our work Keurig but haven't used it in quite awhile. LOL.

    1. Yes, I have one of those reusable K-cups but I haven't been able to find the right coffee to make it taste the way I want. We have a new system at work that uses pods with no plastic -- just coffee in a mesh bag. Maybe Keurig will get on board at some point.

  18. I thought they had a new very small player for Spotify? I don't remember what it's called. Ugh, I hate when that happens!

I actually love chocolate & mind! But I usually buy plain yogurt -- fage, most of the time -- and just do my own add ins. Which gasp! Doesn't always include chocolate!

I do not have 2018 mapped out. I do like goals, and I love having a schedule, but yeah, life does happen. It'll all fall into place. Plus you didn't have to freeze your fanny off at Disney this year!

    1. I'll check into Spotify. I don't know much about that service at all. Freezing at Disney is still preferable to sweating at Disney. LOL. I really was OK with not going. My body is not in that kind of shape. Being the 25th anniversary was the only temptation for me.

  19. I have a hard time using touch screen technology in the winter though (with my frozen fingers). That's why the Shuffle worked so well for me. I may just buy a few refurbished ones!
